Boys and girls, this is how music was done back before the world of auto-tune,lip-syncing,and backup dancers to distract people from noticing how much the "star" sucks. Geezers like me remember (mostly vaguely) performances like this 40 + years ago being what people expected to see when they bought a concert ticket. I know this will be a revelation to those of you under 40,but it's the truth.
thanks Pete. He sure could make that Les Paul wail!
And yes, I am an old geezer, and I remember those days.
I am so old that I saw The Kingsmen ( Louie Louie ) live, and had dinner with them after the show. I am sure a lot of these young guys do not know who they were.
Doesn't hold a candle to seeing Alan Freed's live R'n'R shows at the Brooklyn Paramount Theater in the 1950s.
I'll put seeing Little Feat,The Marshall Tucker Band,The Band,The Eagles,Uriah Heep,Jesse Colin Young,Jethro Tull,Lynard Skynard,The Allman Brothers Band,Joe Cocker,The James Gang,Emerson,Lake,and Palmer,John Prine,etc,etc,etc up against anybody from the 50's
Hell, any of them up against EVERYBODY from the 50's with the exceptions of Jerry Lee Lewis,Buddy Holley, and Chuck Berry. When any of those 3 walked out on stage you were in the company of greatness.

How about the 50s shows, like Freed's in Brooklyn, that had at least two of the three plus other R'n'R greats all in one show?

In what one live show did you see all of these acts live? HINT: NONE.
I saw Jerry Lee, Berry, along with other greats such the Platters, Jackie Wilson, Little Richard, Fats Domino, plus a whole bunch of other near greats (e.g. - Screamin' Jay Hawkins, Del Vikings, Danny and the Juniors, Sam the Man Taylor, etc.) all in one live show.
I would loved to have seen Cocker live, as well as the Eagles even if I had to buy two separate tickets to do so. There is no doubt about the talent represented there. IMO musically speaking the Eagles are the best R'n'R type band ever and Cocker one of the best blues rockers ever (second perhaps only to Ray Charles).
