Title: Trump Says Muslims In America Should Carry Special ID, Evokes Holocaust In Syrian Refugee Debate

For at least the second time since he declared his candidacy for president, Donald Trump has suggested special surveillance of Muslims as a counterterrorism measure in the U.S. In an interview Thursday about the debate over whether the country should welcome Syrian and Iraqi refugees, the real estate tycoon did not rule out requiring Muslims to carry special identification that shows their faith.

“We’re going to have to do things that we never did before,” Trump told Yahoo News when asked if he might require registering Muslims in a database or giving them a form of special identification that noted their religion. “Some people are going to be upset about it, but I think that now everybody is feeling that security is going to rule.”

Identification singling out a religious group sounds chillingly like what was done in Nazi Germany during the Holocaust. Adolf Hitler’s Third Reich required Jews to wear the Star of David, a yellow badge that identified them for persecution.

“Certain things will be done that we never thought would happen in this country in terms of information and learning about the enemy,” Trump said in the interview. “We’re going to have to do things that were frankly unthinkable a year ago.”

Trump, who often scorns so-called political correctness, in October suggested that U.S. mosques deemed as extremist should be forced by the government to close. When launching his campaign in July, he branded Mexican immigrants as mostly criminals, rapists and drug smugglers.

Among a field of more than a dozen Republicans running for the party's presidential nomination, Trump has consistently polled as a front-runner, attributable to his populist rhetoric on immigration and national security issues. But Muslim and Hispanic advocacy groups, among others, accuse him of preaching xenophobia and hate.

Contrary to your assertions, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, UAE, etc have been accepting displaced Syrians. However, since these nations are not signatory to the UN Treaty covering "refugees" these people are not officially called "refugees" by the United Nations. Instead, these nations classify them as "Arab brothers and sisters in distress" .

Riiiiiiiight......and if they like their health care they can keep it.

"Plenty of questions still surround Saudi's claim. After all, if the official's claim is correct, it would mean the kingdom's absorbed almost as many refugees as Jordan and Turkey combined, according to UNHCR's September numbers."

Many countries have opened their doors to a limited number of refugees and immigrants, but Saudi Arabia is one country (although not the only country) that has declined to take them in.

". According to Amnesty International:

Gulf countries including Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Bahrain have offered zero resettlement places to Syrian refugees.

Other high income countries including Russia, Japan, Singapore and South Korea have also offered zero resettlement places.

Germany has pledged 35,000 places for Syrian refugees through its humanitarian admission programme and individual sponsorship; about 75 % of the EU total.

Germany and Sweden together have received 47% Syrian asylum applications in the EU between April 2011 and July 2015.

Excluding Germany and Sweden, the remaining 26 EU countries have pledged around 8,700 resettlement places, or around 0.2% of Syrian refugees in the main host countries.

For their part, Saudi Arabia says they have taken in thousands of Syrians, but as a September story from BBC points out, it has taken them in as visitors or temporary workers, not on refugee visas, and indeed, it is incredibly difficult for Syrians to obtain any type of visa for most Gulf states. Without a visa, they can only enter Algeria, Mauritania, Sudan, and Yemen."
