politics and politicians Title: 'Distraught' Bush Donor: Rubio Is A 'F**king Jedi Master' A Jeb Bush donor upset about his failed attack on Sen. Marco Rubio in the Republican presidential primary debate Wednesday called Rubio a “Jedi Master,” who the Bush campaign should have known not to mess with. “Marco is a [expletive] Jedi Master,” the reportedly “distraught” Florida donor told Politico. “Hopefully these idiots learn not to [expletive] with him anymore. Not necessary.” Added another Florida Bush donor: “[Bush] got crushed.” Bush tried and basically failed to hit Rubio on missed Senate votes in the debate. “You should be showing up to work,” he told Rubio, jumping in on a CNBC question about Rubio’s voting record. “I mean, literally, the Senate — what is it, like a French work week? You get, like, three days where you have to show up? You can campaign, or just resign and let someone else take the job.” An obviously prepared Rubio responded by pointing out that when former Sen. John McCain ran, after whom Bush recently said he’s modeling his campaign, Bush wasn’t complaining about his voting record. “The only reason why you’re doing it now is because we’re running for the same position, and someone has convinced you that attacking me is going to help you,” he added to applause. Bush’s poor performance in the debate follows news of staff cuts and single digit polling numbers. His loss is largely Rubio’s gain, who is expected to capitalize on Bush’s diminishing status in the race to consolidate establishment support. “Going after Rubio that way was just a mistake,” another Bush donor told Politico. “No one cares about missed fucking votes in the Senate. Washington cares about that. The media cares about that. And losing candidates care about that. Jeb sounded like he was losing. Cruz has the potential of being the conservative bases' only real choice after Trump/Carson implode or fade. And it seems hard to believe that 2016 outsider fever will elect a president who has no government experience at all. They have always been pols (congresscritters, governors, cabinet members) along with the three generals. Do Trump or Carson have the ability to get elected as total outsiders? Seems farfetched to me. Same problem that Herman Cain had. Rubio does have a lot more visual appeal and personal charisma. Rubio is a chick magnet type (like Xlinton), Cruz decidedly is not. And Rubio is very slippery as a politician. Cruz may find it hard to defeat Rubio if the race boils down to those two by next March, which a lot of pundits think is feasable.

In my opinion, congresscritters, governors, cabinet members got us to where we are today. And where we are ain't good. Just how bad would four years of Trump be compared to four years of Hillary? I and millions of others are willing to roll the dice.

This is a big part of why the GOPe wants to bet on him. Also, they want to contrast him against that old Xlinton hag and try to scoop up some younger voters, something the GOP desperately needs. After JFK/Xlinton/Obama, we should not dismiss the Arousal Factor out of hand simply because Republicans have so rarely managed to find a charismatic candidate in the modern era. Reagan was as close as they've come to an actual charismatic candidate, someone who can draw in voters that no other Republican could bring. Of course, Trump is trying his hand at bringing in new voters, exactly as Obama did. But Trump simply does not have the kind of organization and expertise to really capitalize on any openings the way that Rubio could. Carson is also surprisingly effective on Facebook/Twitter, an unexpected strength.

I'm just saying I don't see the public looking at Carson or Trump and breaking such an ingrained voting habit. It goes deeper than just the media or academics or the two parties. Americans simply prefer presidents who have some political experience. And for Carson or Trump to win, they would have to break that hardcore voting habit.

In the nineteenth century, you saw uniform bearded presidents. Articles were written extolling their luxuriant and manly beards. It was like the similar wearing of codpieces in an earlier era. Then the 20th century came and beards disappeared entirely. Carson's goatee is a rarity though it does look good on him. Your problem here is that you simply don't grasp how profoundly shallow most voters really are.

You just can't discount that fact. Now, what are Trump's BIG applause lines? What issues are people interested in? Immigration, for sure. Followed by self-funding his campaign. Followed by taking care of vets. Followed by tough negotiations to bring back jobs. I don't see Rubio as strong in any of those areas. He's stuck at a meager 11%. Where are the other supporters coming from? Fiorina?

Three months is a lot of time for voters to defect to other candidates. Iowa is well-known for last-minute flips. Peaking in the week of the caucus is usually the best predictor. Iowa tends to punish early frontrunners. NH is a little contrarian and is likely to turn out a lot of Dem voters, many of them MA refugees, to vote in the GOP primary since Hitlery is assured the Dem nomination. Every election cycle is different. I haven't yet been able to form an opinion as to which GOP candidates are most likely to benefit from bored Dems crossing over to vote Republican (for mischief). Some voters are very cagey about these things. This is how we ended up with McStain in 2008 after his campaign was dead and some Dems in NH revived his campaign so he could win SC and defeat Giuliani before they got to Florida despite Giuliani having 65% approval ratings throughout, far better than the Stain overall.
