Halloween, or Hallowe'en (/ÌhælYÈwiÐn, -oŠÈiÐn, ÌhQÐl-/; a contraction of "All Hallows’ Evening"),[5] also known as Allhalloween,[6] All Hallows' Eve,[7] or All Saints' Eve,[8] is a yearly celebration observed in a number of countries on 31 October, the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows' Day. It begins the three-day observance of Allhallowtide,[9] the time in the liturgical year dedicated to remembering the dead, including saints (hallows), martyrs, and all the faithful departed believers.[10][11] According to many scholars, All Hallows' Eve is a Christianized feast influenced by Celtic harvest festivals,[1][12] with possible pagan roots, particularly the Gaelic festival Samhain.[7][13][14] Other scholars maintain that it originated independently of Samhain and has solely Christian roots.[1][15] Since Halloween is a religious function it too should be banned from all schools and government places?
