Title: Donald Trump’s companies tried to import at least 1,100 foreign workers

Companies owned by GOP frontrunner Donald Trump have sought at least 1,100 foreign worker visas since 2000—a practice that stands in stark contrast to Trump’s self-portrayal as a presidential candidate who would create and project American jobs.

A Reuters’ analysis of Department of Labor data shows that nine Trump-majority-owned companies have applied to bring waitresses, cooks, vineyard workers, and other laborers into the country on foreign worker visas. Most of the visa applications have gained approval, Reuters says. Palm Beach, Fla., resort Mar-a-Lago Club has sought the most foreign workers of the nine Trump-owned businesses. It has submitted applications for 787 workers since 2006. This month, it sought to bring in 70 foreign workers to work as maids, cooks, and servers on H-2B workers later this year

The visas the Trump companies have relied on the most—H-2B—is a subset of the H-2 visa program that covers nonagricultural foreign workers. (H-2A visas are for farm workers.) The H-2 program is often criticized for leaving workers vulnerable to employer abuses. Last month, a Buzzfeed investigation portrayed the system as one that—at times—fosters modern-day slavery.

Trump has failed to outline a specific economic agenda, but in announcing his candidacy in June, the contender for the Republican presidential nomination said that he “will be the greatest jobs president that God every created. I will bring back our jobs from China, Mexico and other places. I will bring back jobs and our money,” Trump said.

He has since come under fire for lashing out at Mexican immigrants: “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best,” he said in the speech. “They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists.” (He later specified that “legal” Mexicans are “incredible people” and have worked for his companies for years.) A poll released Monday found that of 250 Latinos surveyed, 75% viewed the television star and real estate mogul unfavorably.

Labor data doesn’t specify the country of origin for recipients of H-2B visas, but Reuters says that a large number of the foreign workers employed by Trump companies through H-2B visas could be Mexican, since in 2013 more than 80% of the more than 100,000 workers admitted to the U.S. on H-2B visas were from Mexico.

He's making money legally Want to stop it? Change the law and close the Border.

He has the right to apply for visas, hire foreigners, and make a ton of money putting Americans out of jobs. The Republican Party has been doing it for years - it's THEIR policy. It's what the Business Roundtable and the Chamber of Commerce is all about.

The fact that Trump is smarter than Republican hack politicians, as proven by the fact that he has billions and they do not, is a grounds to vote for him: he can run shit. They can't run their own households, and they've destroyed the country.

Trump, at least, is ready to put up a fence and close the loopholes. None of the other Republican cocksuckers will ever do ANYTHING, because that are all incompetent, weak, poor, milquetoast jackasses.

And not one of them can win, except Trump.

So, Republican Establishment types will do something against their will, for once, and vote for Trump. Or Hillary Clinton will win and go after them. Because Democrats may protect crony capitalists, but they only protect THEIR cronies. Hillary will use the power of taxes and regs and investigations to take out the Kochs, and take out the other big Republican lenders. Targeted prosecution - it's what is on the menu, you REPUBLICAN crony capitalists. The DEMOCRAT cronies will get the goodies, and the REPUBLICAN ones will hand over their market share to them. Hillary will play for keeps.

So, the Republican billionaires will submit to Trump and support him, or Hillary will pretty much kill them.

It will be fun to watch either way.

But it will be Biden. He's playing Hamlet, but time is opening between today and the funeral, and the FBI has the deleted e-mails - Obama has let them leak that - so the door is still being held open. Biden will walk through, and when that happens, the only person who can stop him is Trump.

If Republican suckers like Kochs won't kneel to Trump, they'll be put on their knees by Biden.

To preserve their money, they better surrender to Trump. They will, in the end. But it looks as though in the process the talking head front-men like Kristol are all going to self-immolate.

The Kochs and other top Republican moneymen are, in the end, about money. When they see Trump's populism cannot be stopped, they will decide that it is better to have Trump and save their precious coin, than to be impoverished by the Democrats.

THEY will bend the knee to Trump, to save their money. But before that happens, the Kristols and the Fox Newses and other intellectual front men will immolate themselves in the trenches to try to stop Trump, because that's what their masters want. Trouble is, they will lose their audiences, and once they have, they will no longer be of any use to the Kochs. The Kochs will need to submit to Trump, but the Kristol's of the world, ultimately, are just poor guys paid for their smart mouths, and completely replaceable. They will be replaced. George Will, Kristol, Fox News - all of these guys who have gone after Trump as the pit poodles of the Rich Right - they're done.

Trump's not.

I cannot read the Pope's mind or his heart. He does not seem to me to be a man "about money" or about "power over the lives of...serfs".

Nor do I see any particular indication that he believes that anybody is "his".

I see a man trying to be liked. If there were serfs who were "his", he would not need to do that.

How many companies does he own anyway and how many has he bought recently? He can't know every single thing every company he owns/bought/sold has ever done. I'm not sticking up for him I'm just saying he might not know, happens all the time in the business world...

You defend Trump like you're licking some cop's boot. Really, have you no shame?

Trump, for all his bloviating about the foreigners taking American jobs, is standing in line with the rest of the cheap-labor tycoons to import as many cheap and easily exploited workers as he can get away with.

Then he spews some crap about Mexican rapists taking American jobs and a lot of morons fall for it. People like you.

You best get use to it, TC. Trump is most likely here to stay. After his first four years, I hope the people that benefit are the WORKING PEOPLE, any class working, the gun owners and both big and small businesses IN THIS COUNTRY.

I hope those that don't benefit are those that are tax drains like welfare, drug addicts, criminals, unemployed and illegals.

Not true. He's talking about illegal aliens taking American jobs. Hell, he's bragged about how many legal Mexicans work for him. That's no secret.

It wouldn't be necessary if you posted the truth about Trump. I'm simply correcting your lies.

You mean, like Herman Cain or Michelle Bachmann or lots of other early flame-outs in past primaries.

Apparently, you Trump chumps think he should be given the nomination by acclaim before a single person votes in a primary or caucus. Well, that isn't going to happen.

The GOP (and Dems) typically have one or two big frontrunners in the early states (especially Iowa) who never go to win the nomination or even be serious contenders.

I think we're already at Peak Trump and his numbers will only sink. As others drop out (as Walker and Perry have), the numbers for other candidates are going to come up, perhaps mostly with the two outsiders, Carson and Fiorina. But that isn't the same as a full campaign in Iowa or in NH. Those are some finicky voters and I don't think LF has a single poster voting in either contest.

Because they spend all their time and money in those first few states, thinking if they finish towards the top they can raise more. If that doesn't happen, they're dead. And then the Florida primary looms, and it's basically winner- take-all.

This time around it's different. Trump has $10 billion. He's polling at 31%. He draws tens of thousands. He tastes victory. And the Florida primary has been moved to what, the 21st state?

Yet you compare this primary to all the others? Same-o, same-o?

misterwhite, you ignorant slut.

Like you, until some months ago I was unaware of how profoundly the RNC has changed its GOP primary calendar in 2015. Just try to find Florida in that list. They have really paid the price for their antics in 2008 and 2012 (jumping the gun on their election date and then awarding delegates as winner-take-all against RNC rules).

Once again, we see just how little you know as you try to heap scorn on others who will not worship your false god.

The GOP really frontloads its primaries, trying to pick an early nominee. But Iowa and its corny caucus is mostly Dems and NH has had a large invasion of Dems from Taxachussetts who just love voting for candidates like the Stain and Romney in NH's open primary.

The new primary schedule is a little better than the old one but not much. It does give the South and Midwest stronger voices at the expense of Florida.

Read my whole post. I cited the way it used to be and the way it is today with Trump running. Many things have changed, including the date of the Florida primary.

Yet you use past primaries as your basis to predict the demise of Trump.

Yet you use past primaries as your basis to predict the demise of Trump.

Mostly due to Iowa's volatility. They rarely reward the first or even the second early frontrunner from the summer or fall season.

The political pros say that the best thing in Iowa is to peak in the week prior to the caucus, that being a frontrunner in Iowa is most often bad luck when you get to the caucus.

NH is another odd state in terns of its winners. And Iowa often influence both NH and SC. The dominoes fall in a certain way. It may be that we will see a longer primary race this time from 3-4 candidates. A lot more smaller states earlier, a lot of them Southern and Midwestern states. A very different dance card compared to the old IA/NH/NV/SC/FL schedule (with FL trying to cheat).

It was kinda grotesque that Texas came so late before. Texas and Florida as the biggest Red(dish) states should come pretty close together but not too late or too early. Before this year, Florida was too prominent and Texas was invisible in presidential primaries.

Texas was pushed back in 2012 to May due to the federal court redistricting case.

Basically the evening of the 15 of March we should know who the real front runner is.

Not a bad prediction. Probably 50-50 it will happen.

I could see a Rubio or Bush campaign against Trump dragging out longer but there's no way to predict it. Like a lot of political nerds, I still harbor doubts that Trump will stay in the race even until Iowa. He has great capacity as a personality to flake out or combust spontaneously with his off-the-cuff remarks.

Depends on if Trump sees this campaign as a 'contract' for a series that will run until ratings shut it down.
