Two stage actors say cops made their taxi ride with a racist, homophobic cabbie even more hellish by arresting them due to a bogus dispute over the fare. Christina Sajous and Ethan Paulini charge in a suit filed in Manhattan Federal Court they hailed a cab on Sept. 11, 2014, at W. 13th St. and Seventh Ave. after attending an Off-Broadway show. The two were bound for Harlem, but driver Gregory Adolph refused to take the West Side Highway, papers say. When Sajous, 30, told the driver he had to follow the route they requested, documents show he said, “I don’t have to do anything for a n-----.” Paulini, shocked, said, “What did you say?” Adolph allegedly replied: “Now the f----t got something to say.” The furious passengers got out at 96th St. and Central Park West, paying Adolph $20 for a $19.50 fare. But Adolph, 35, insisted they get back in the car and go to their destination because he wanted the full fare, according to papers. He said he didn’t want to pick up another passenger headed downtown from the “filthy n----- neighborhood,” the suit claims. A new suit claims a ride with a racist cabbie got worse when cops arrested two passengers for failing to pay the fare. Paulini, 34, and Sajous threatened to call the police, but they say Adolph didn’t care. “Who would believe a n----- and a f----t?” he allegedly said. They opted to take the subway at the nearby 96th St. station. While they waited on a platform, four officers asked them to return to the street. Adolph, who could not be reached for comment, told the cops they had skipped the fare, according to the suit. So Paulini gave the cabbie another $20, saying, “If this makes you go away, please take it,” the suit says. “Now I paid it twice.” He then reached into his pocket to present cops with a receipt showing he had indeed already paid the fare once. “Never put your hands in your pockets around a police officer,” one of the cops allegedly barked. Ethan Paulini and Christina Sajous claimed that a wrongful arrested topped a 'ride from hell' with a homophobic and racist cabbie. Paulini tried to explain himself, but a cop said, “Show it to the judge” and pushed him into a police cruiser, documents claim. Sajous, who had a role in the Broadway production of “Spider Man: Turn Off the Dark,” was also thrown in cuffs. “So (the driver) can insult us and we are the ones getting arrested?” Sajous asked, the suit says. “Yup,” a cop replied. Charges against both for resisting arrest and skipping the fare were tossed last year, said their lawyer, Douglas Grover. “This is really an egregious example of inappropriate police conduct,” he said. Paulini and Sajous seek damages to be determined at trial. Adolph, the city and the officers involved are named as defendants. Adolph has a clean driving record, according to the Taxi & Limousine Commission, which has never received a complaint about him. “We’ll review the allegations and investigate the facts once we are served,” a Law Department spokesman said.

Charges against both for resisting arrest and skipping the fare were tossed last year, said their lawyer, Douglas Grover. There is something odd here. I don't think the cops would have arrested them if they could produce a paid ticket. This couple sound like high strung asshates. BTW yes the racist cabbie has a right to call you a faggot and a nigger. You should have recorded it and showed it to the cab company so they could deal with Adoph. Whiny metrosexuals/progressives are like fingernails on a chalk board. Something nobody can stand including themselves!
I'm guessing this is the point of the civil suit, that the cops arrested them in spite of their having a receipt proving payment. According to the article, the charges against the couple was dropped. Why, it does not say. Maybe the prosecutor saw the receipt. Maybe he decided a trial wasn't worth the amount of the offence, given they had already gone through the trouble of being arrested. As for how likely it is for cabbies to give out receipts, that's a point. Might taxis in this day and age equipped with small thermal printers tied to the meter? In any event, speculating on whether they have one is pointless. They either do or do not, and they are pressing a civil case in which they were arrested after claiming they had one. Doing that without having a receipt will surely ruin their case. Doing so with a receipt will likely win their case. Ergo, if they have no receipt, pressing their case would be quite stupid of them, just as the cop arresting them with a receipt would have been completely stupid. So someone is stupid here. Maybe we'll see who.
Too petty of a crime to mess with. Think about it. If a cop was given a receipt from the riders he would have told them sorry to bother you and then let them go. There is nothing in it for them on such a petty crime to haul them down to do paperwork. Unless the couple were being absolute dicks about it to the officer there is just no way cops going to arrest them. To me this is two drama queens pissed off that someone called them a "faggot and a nigger" and got away with it. Not only got away with it but did it in the heart of progressive heaven and nothing has happen to Adolph the bigot! JMHO
According to the account, the guy went to retrieve it and the cops told him not to put his hands into his pockets. What transpired between that moment and the arrest isn't mentioned. The article is not complete, really, and maybe intentionally so. Perhaps the suit filing gives a more thorough claim on the event. Well, it seems cops have a sixth sense about this sort of thing. They just KNOW who's skipping fare and who isn't. AT least that's the impression I get from GI's discussion on this thread. If they acted only on that "intuition", maybe they're right, maybe not. Many cops just like throwing their weight around. You may well be right. Again, all hinges on whether there really is a receipt or not.
These are the opinions of one side. Cops can't say anything because of city lawyers, Adolph is not going to waste his time and Taxi company sure as hell is going to say a word. maybe they're right, maybe not. Many cops just like throwing their weight around. When people treat cops like shit all day. Telling the cops they work for them and should be kissing their ass then you see cops will treat people with the respect provided to them. I would be very surprised if the this lawsuit went anywhere.
