Title: Reflections of My Life - Marmalade (clever split screen 1969/2014 Performance)

"Take me back...to my old home...." Yes, it's a theme we sort of still remember from John Denver's 'Country Roads'.

'Reflections of My Life' is a melancholy classic from 1969, cleverly and beautifully redone and produced by Joe Tansin in 2014, and performed by the song's original vocalist, Dean Ford. The 45 years in between performances is a bitter-sweet and humble reminder that time....flies.

Poster Comment:

When I first stumbled upon this video, I wasn't paying attention, wondering who the old guy was who was doing this song. I quickly realized it was the sharp young guy in the red blazer from 1969; Sang with the emotion of a full passing 45 years of true "reflection."

I thought the newer arrangements with cello and fiddle only embellished the soulful melancholy while reinforcing more poignantly a "reflection" of our respective lives during the last 45, 40, 35 years or so.

Thanks for posting this. I remember it well from when it was new,and thought it was one of those "perfect"s songs.

I still think that.

Now I am wondering what his grandchildren think about it and him.

Ya never know who likes what -- don't know why I'm surprise that you love this song. Maybe because I thought you were more into jazz, progressive, or eclectic stuff. Yeah, it's a beautiful song -- musically and lyrically.

45 years -- whoooosh! That's what his grandkids would be saying -- along with the rest of us. In reading some you tube remarks on another version of this song, many vets have expressed nostalgic memories of this specific tune, obviously because of the lyrics. Btw, haven't found any bio info on Dean Ford, the vocalist.

Yup, that's the original vid -- a live performance of this song from which the split screen performance was taken.

Both versions are the same but different; I liked the original intro's bass...percussion....strings...and horn section. The cello of the 2014 was unique, creating a real solemn, emotionally forelorn feeling.

Not into jazz at all. Or at least not what traditionalists consider to be "pure jazz" like the crap done by Dizzy Gillespie and his accomplices.

MY observation on that stuff is "OK,so you all know a note, but do any of you actually know a tune?"

I put it in the same "poser category" as punk rock and rap.
