Title: The Shemitah Unraveled: What 2015-2016 Could Bring

As the world waits to see what the end of a seven-year biblical cycle known as the Shemitah may bring this fall, New York Times best-selling author Rabbi Jonathan Cahn issued a warning to prepare for economic calamity, war in the Middle East or even worse.

"I will state a warning which I have stated before," Cahn told hundreds of people gathered at the Prophecy in the News conference in Orlando, Florida, this weekend. "Whether it comes in this time parameter of the Shemitah or the year following or not, I believe a great shaking is going to come to this land and to the world that will involve the collapsing of the American economy ... and the removal of its blessings and prosperity.

"Whether it begins with the economic realm or not, I believe it's going to be bigger than the economic realm and it may have the effect of famine or cutting off infrastructure for a time. The shaking doesn't have to take place in the Shemitah (year), but I believe we need to be ready."

Cahn's warning has to do with what is known as the biblical Shemitah, or the Sabbath Year. During this year, according to Exodus and Leviticus, there was to be no working of the land. The last day of the Shemitah, Elul 29, is considered the "wipeout day" when all debts were "wiped clean." The Shemitah is meant to be a blessing, but when Israel turned away from God it became "a sign of judgment on a nation that has driven God out of its life."

In The Mystery of the Shemitah, Cahn described how this biblical pattern is connected to numerous events in modern history, including the rise of America to superpower status, World Wars I and II, the return of the Jewish people to their ancient homeland, the Six-Day War and even the rising of the World Trade Center.

He also noted a pattern of judgments at seven-year intervals in September 2001 and 2008 marked by the greatest crashes in Wall Street history, up to that time. The first occurred on Sept. 17, 2001, just a few days after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, and the second occurred on Sept. 29, 2008. Both occurred on the biblical day of Elul 29, the very day appointed to wipe out the financial accounts of a nation. The next one occurs on Sept. 13.

"For years, financial observers have been mystified why it is that all the greatest crashes tend to take place the same time of year," Cahn says. "When is it? September to October. What if we take the greatest crashes in history. Do any of them take place at the end of the seven-year cycle of the Shemitah at the time of the wipeout and the answer is, 'Yes.' Every single one of them does. And the thing is the phenomenon is increasing. It's intensifying."

While the current Shemitah runs from September 2014 through this September, Cahn told the audience that the "Super Shemitah"—or the year of Jubilee, the year at the end of seven cycles of the Shemitah—begins this September and runs through September 2016.

"What people don't realize is one of the missing keys of end-times prophecy is the Shemitah," says Cahn, author of The Harbinger, which has sold more than 2 million copies. "What's the end of end-times prophecy? The Tribulation. How long is the Tribulation period? Seven years. It's a cycle of Shemitahs that goes back to Daniel's 70 sevens, which is linked to the Shemitah and linked to the judgment of Israel and the 70 years of judgment. Every seventh year is a Shemitah, but every seventh Shemitah is a Super-Shemitah, which we call the Jubilee ... ."

Despite these patterns, though, Cahn says God is in no way bound by the cycle.

"Now nothing has to happen, but if it follows the course of most times when people predict things like this they're wrong, but if it follows the course here's what would happen. According to the pattern, each time it happens, there is war in the Middle East. No. 2, there is a major war focused on Israel—World War I and the 1967 Six-Day War. No. 3, that war results in an end-times restoration of the next step of end-times prophecy."

In the book of Genesis, the Shemitah began with the Pharoah's prophetic dream of 14 cows—seven healthy and seven sick. God revealed to Joseph that the seven healthy cows represented seven years of prosperity, while the sick were the seven years of famine to follow.

"God gives a warning to Egypt to tell them what is coming," Cahn says. "The turning point is that seventh cow."

During his talk, Cahn pointed to a sign with biblical roots that went viral on newswires Sept. 25, 2014—the very day the world entered the current Shemitah: a cow with the number seven on its head.

"The pattern of the Shemitah is ... it begins so undramatic you barely notice it," Cahn says.

Here are the signs that Cahn revealed about the beginning of the Shemitah last year, on or around Sept. 25. ◦ The stock markets became violent and started crashing for about a month

◦ A massive earthquake shook parts of America

◦ The manifestations of Ebola

◦ The Supreme Court was tackling the issue of gay marriage on a national scale

◦ China overtakes the U.S. as the No. 1 economic power

◦ Russia takes the title of strongest military power away from America

"This is the beginning of the ending of the American Age," Cahn says. "We are seeing things we have never seen in human history."

Could this be the beginning of the end of the ages—not just America?

"It is no accident. The Bible says woe to those who call evil good and good evil. It is no accident that at the same time the nation is calling evil good, it's calling good—like you, like believers—evil. What's happening now is you're hearing more and more of Christians being persecuted for simply trying to stay true to their faith. Everything is coming to a head."

CNN: WHO: Trials show new Ebola vaccine is 'highly effective'

So the rabbi needs to update his scare list.

Of course, this "prophecy" will only scare the non-Christians. The old Jewish calendar observations were abolished when the Second Temple fell. Others, like the Jubilee years, hadn't been observed for many centuries even prior to that time which is why this topic is relatively unknown to modern readers, making it easy for a prophecy-monger like the good rabbi to prey on their ignorance.

Sure feels like the end. As Israel had turned away from God and judged, so has America.

I did not ever hear of a seven-year biblical cycle known as 'The Shemitah' -- fascinating.

I don't know what everyone else has been feeling in their heart-of-hearts since 9/11 (especially since America has enabled [TWICE!] aided and abetting the evil deeds and governance of 0bolo), but the above appears to be absolutely true.

After 9/11, have you sensed the beginning of the end and new era/age? I did. Immediately.

We have since seen things we'd NEVER imagined from an American President, American governance, America's collective sense of morals and ethics. We've gone dark. VERY dark. On 9/10 America was still ALL about optimism and hope for our future. 9/11 was very symbolic in several ways -- for the worst. At the speed of light.

Death Cult Islam declared war on Christian America. America responds by elevating Islam AND electing a Muslim President. Bizarro World.

Great! Let's kill the disease ASAP and install a REAL American leader! (oh wait...maybe I've misunderstood you ;-)

he rabbi needs to update his scare list.

But...but...I'm STILL skeerd of Ebola :-( And now even more skeerd of the new 'Fatal Disease Du Jour' from Africa/ME: 'MERS.'

Sure -- I'd never heard of 'The Shemitah' either. But even the ir-relgious and a-religious have grown increasingly curious about the topic of prophecy as of late, acutely aware that something is afoot.

Was Jesus Christ "preying on the ignorance" of the Jews and pagans of His day? You bet. If Rabbi Jonathan Cahn manages to open up a few more eyes, ears, and hearts -- as a New York Times best-selling author -- that can't be a bad thing.

I don't think the rabbi thinks of himself as a prophet or making predictions. He is observing current events in accordance with the Jewish calendar. Many Messianics do this and it is interesting to see their thoughts on such matters.

I know one Messianic who points out to me that Jesus Christ literally fulfilled the spring feast days and the yet to be fulfilled with the Second Coming are the fall feast days.

The first four of the seven feasts occur during the springtime (Passover, Unleavened Bread, First Fruits, and Weeks), and they all have already been fulfilled by Christ in the New Testament. The final three holidays (Trumpets, the Day of Atonement, and Tabernacles) occur during the fall, all within a short fifteen-day period.

From: How did Jesus fulfill the meanings of the Jewish feasts?

It's good to look at it from their perspective.

As with your concerns, I too don't like the pinpoint "this is what is happening and this is it for sure" type of Millerite predictions. We are cautioned not to be in that type of business. Although, I think Cahn comes close to the sun in his statements, but don't think he gets burned.

So enjoy a piece for a change TC:) It is sometimes refreshing to look at prophetic opinions other than our own now and then.

Indeed. This nation 'ran the wrong way' after the 9/11 attacks. There was about a 6-8 month period where some hearts were changed and seeds planted. Then all went cold.

"Ran the wrong way" is exactly right. Think Dubya Bush's "Religion of Peace" statement as he stood against the same "ugly winds" as 0bolo had anything to do with it?

There was about a 6-8 month period where some hearts were changed and seeds planted. Then all went cold.

Know what I won't ever forget? For TWO entire days people were as nice as can be. Everywhere I went, everyone I spoke to were on their best, most brotherly-sisterly behavior. Bitter-sweet because...we saw the potential of man's heart.

Yup, for about the first 6-8 months after 9/11 many hearts were changed...maybe for that entire year. Until the flag was re-planted at the American Golgotha...with the usual ugly politics and agenda of divisiveness and hate :-(

Prophecy is not a salad bar for light grazing.

Grazing often leads to a un-realized hunger. And further curiosity of just what else is at that salad bar to satisfy it. Ever pop your head into the fridge for a "snack"...then wind up like Ed Norton at Ralphie-Boy's table?

The subject of "prophecy" is a bit like that for some people. Only these days (given the bleak present and future) people seem to want to get beyond Tom Hanks' movies ('Da Vinci Code, Celestine Prophecy'.)

I have to be a killjoy on this one.

If the Spring festival days were fulfilled literally in the Person of Christ Jesus, why not the remaining festivals? The linkages to each feast day to Messianic prophecies are quite fascinating and hard to ignore.

Real prophecy, as recorded in scripture, had real consequences. And people who took action -- or not -- of prophetic warnings and the consequences of those choices.

When you bring back stoning false prophets to death, I'll take modern "prophecy" more seriously. As it is, it is quite easy for any huckster to assemble some "prophecy" and peddle it to gullible people.

Prophecy was a key element of the Old Testament. We don't find dramatic prophecy in the early or later Christian churches.

Modern prophecy writings are a for-profit enterprise. And failed predictions rarely cause any repercussions for the entire field of prophecy. Look at Harold Camping or Pat Robertson with a long history of false prophecy which was quite lucrative.

Show me the prophet willing to die for his prophecy (instead of his profits) and I'll take modern prophecy more seriously.

Of course, you no doubt knew I would say something like that. We're unlikely to cover any new ground in such a discussion.     : )

We seem to be approaching this from different perspectives. I am not encouraging or promoting 'new' prophecy or prophets. What we have with Cahn et. al. is to look at the OT and NT prophecies which have not been fulfilled yet. No timelines, no dates, some observations. I didn't see a "Millerite" approach from Cahn saying "this is HOW it WILL happen." We know from Acts 1 we are to not speculate on the timing.

What I've seen from some of the Messianics is to attribute the fall festivals with the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. Just about every early Christian creed proclaims the Second Coming of Christ as a future event. Unless one is a full preterist.

So all that lake of fire stuff and Second Coming of Christ is yet future.
