Video and Audio Title: The Last Enemy Poster Comment: The Last Enemy is a BBC production hosted by Matthew Goode,a British actor that gives a brief intro into each episode of this series. The focus of this dramatic mini-series is the loss of privacy due to increasing crime and the War on Terrorism. It is set in England, and it seems they are much further down this road than we are in the US. In fact,in one intro Mr.Goode explains that ID cards that hold all your personal information have already been approved and are in the works for issue to all citizens in the UK soon. The "villian" in this series is really a software program called "TIS",for Total Information Services. And total it is. You can't even ride a subway without flashing your card, and ALL your personal info is coded on that card and the info is available to any official that wants to view it. It is also pretty much a cashless world because you can use this same card to pay rent or buy anything. You even have to swipe your card in a card reader to sell anything. The story stars when Stephen Ezard (Benedict Cumberbatch) comes back to the UK after living in China for several years as a scientific researcher to attend the funeral of his brother. All these changes have happened while he was away,so it is all new to him. It is a story about the loss of privacy and individual freedoms and the corruption that comes with government officials being in bed with corporations seeking government contracts. We are talking about billions of dollars at stake here,so it should come as no surprise to anything the lengths these people will go to in order to protect their tea carts. The show has the typical BBC/Masterpiece Theater high quality scripts and acting, and that alone makes it worth watching. I am hoping it also opens a few eyes on the people who think "that can never happen here". All you have to do is just glance around and you can see it has been happening for years. Here is a link to the IMDB review of the program that shows and names all the actors. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0966151/fullcredits?ref_=tt_cl_sm#cast I am watching this series now on Amazon Prime because I can view it there for free, but be aware that Amazon edits the series to avoid showing a breast or to avoid non-PC language. Who knows what else they cut out? I suggest you watch it on PBS if possible. I wathced one episode there and that's why I know amazon cut and edited the episode when they show it. Replies to Comment # 4. Let me know what you think. Personally,I love most of the BBC dramss. Especially the historic stuff. You might also want to check out the BBC series MI-5. One of the most realistic and best written and acted series to ever be broadcast.
