Bill Maher has long held Rand Paul in high regard, but certain position shifts on the campaign trail have left Maher increasingly disappointed with the libertarian 2016 candidate. He said Paul didnt even wait a week into his campaign before setting fire to everything he used to believe.
Maher complained that Paul used to be the kind of Republican who, like his father, would tell a crowd what they didnt want to hear, but now hes jumped the shark o gay marriage and dipped his toes into more of the Republican crazy.
And the reason Pauls likely doing it, Maher thought, is because in the Republican Party, crazy is a constituency. Which brought him to the crazy conspiracies surrounding Jade Helm 15. Maher said almost no Republicans would dare call out nutty people for being nutty because theyre not a small group in the GOP.
As in, "Bill Maher would vote for Rand Paul for President?"
It may be that he is just bloviating show material. However, Bill Maher did say that Rand Paul is the first Republican presidential candidate in a long time that hed consider voting for. I guess: "It depends on what the meaning of the word 'consider' considers."
Well, Libertarians do support social issues near and dear to the liberal heart -- legal drugs, open borders, legal abortion.
BUT, Libertarians also believe in personal responsibility -- meaning the government isn't there to help you if you f**k up. With freedom comes responsibility.
It's that part the liberals ignore.
Bill Maher will support Rand Paul until he wins the Republican primary, thus insuring a Republican loss in November. (I support Joe Biden as the Democrat nominee for the same reason.)
Then Bill Maher will be all in for Hillary. If Rand Paul starts to gain ground on Hillary, it'll be fun to watch Bill Maher's head explode.
"Bill Maher said that he once expressed support for libertarianism "
Probably "some aspects of".
I have yet to talk to a Libertarian who doesn't clarify his position with "I support Libertarianism except for ...". The only difference between Libertarians is the number of exceptions.
