Lots of details for personal survival and safety are required for self and family preservation through an emergency. As an example: water, food, clothing, shelter planning are just the "tip of considerations" to ensure you may be able to survive with some dignity throughout any unexpected issue.

Most know, there is a problem that has been on-going in America. You can discern this fact based on what politicians say as opposed to what they don't say. And they play the game that the government may provide all essentials to the citizenry even when there are no apparent resources for their charlatan Orwellian double-speak.

It behooves you to provide for yourself and family. You should not rely on a government, friends or family to help in any time of crisis. Are you ready? If you are ready, you should be able to answer, "how are you ready?"

Please share a few tips for preparedness measures.

Yes, I have two hundred bucks in a cookie tin. Other than that I plan to rely on the government.

Advise collecting things like lead, gunpowder, brass shells and PRIMERS are essential. Out of all of those items, the PRIMER is most important. The only item controllable by government is the PRIMER. All the other components can be reused, melted or prepared in a basement.

Ps. PRIMERS have no shelf life if kept dry and cool. Some dreaming of revolt have a problem with this concept.

It is a matter of trust when the SHTF:

Matthew 6:19-21New King James Version (NKJV)

19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Amen!

I find it more than odd that people are so desperately concerned about "preparedness" for the preservation of their last 10 or 20 years of *this* life when they totally neglect...their soul and life (and death) for ALL eternity.

Thanks bro...

A simple concept some folks should consider: The "Dream-State" appears as "reality" too. In a vivid dream, there's sight, touch, conversation, and emotion. Not only are our eyes NOT open, but we're no where...but in a sleep state.

Food for thought: Considering the "reality" of the Dream-State, shouldn't it prove to those who insist *only* on a material/physical state the actual existence of an "external" dimension or world?

Of course.

First off, I'm ready to die. Today, tomorrow, 50 years, 500 years. When it comes, it comes. God isn't going to let me die a second before he has decided it's my time, and he's not going to let me live a second longer. So I do not worry about these things.

I try to convey this sentiment to my loved ones, so that they, too, do not have anxiety about life. I am not very successful.

Second, I know how to go a long, LONG time without food. I've fasted for 40 continuous days on nothing but water, twice, and I would have been able to go on for a fair piece after that too. So the thought of being without food for a couple of months is not really terrifying. Frankly, it's not all that painful. And I had to work in that state, so I couldn't conserve energy. My womenfolk are slender, so they'd have more of a problem. Looking after them, to keep them alive and bitchin', would be harder than me.

Third, I've been through military survival school, in January, in Maine, so I know that with warm clothes I can survive bitter cold with a simple shelter and no fire. I don't fear winter. Nor do I particularly fear the loss of shelter. If the balloon goes up, there will be die offs and lots of available shelter - abandoned cars, buildings, etc. And all of this assumes that I won't be able to stay in my house.

Fourth, I know what to eat around where I live. I know the key green plants for nutrition, and I know the ideal protein source: shellfish, which grow super-abundantly everywhere in the sea, along the rocks, which are all within walking distance. Seaweed is also edible. There is a lot of very palatable, easy to get protein that can be eaten raw right close by.

Fifth, I know that the key tool is fire. In survival school you're trying not to get caught, but in a simple breakdown situation, you can light a fire. Living a week in a blizzard in Maine in just clothes, without food or fire, was a lot harder than living in a house, with the ability to light fire.

And with that, really, there is what you need.

The other key is that I know the direction to go when everything goes to shit. One must be contrarian. Where will all go? They will head South. They will go towards warmth...and malaria, and roundworms, and typhoid, and people.

No. You walk to the sea, and you walk NORTH. NORTH< where the cold keeps the diseases at bay, and where the predators are just big mammals, and there aren't many, and where simple things will keep the bugs away. Where poisonous things are not and malaria and typhoid and cholera and roundworms and parasites are not.

North to life.

Walk to the seashore and eat. And if things become unbearable, walk to the seashore and walk north. North where the people thin out. Better still, walk to the seashore and steal somebody's sailboat, and sail north. Off shore. No bugs. No crime.

Get a sailboat and get out of dodge.

The sea is your friend. We came out of the sea. Go down to the Sea, and walk or sail towards the Northern lights.

You know, up in the far North, the people have no warrior culture. They never fought wars. Eskimos and Saami have a history of wife-swapping and generally entertaining themselves with sex (what else is there to do), but they have no history or tradition of war. Where there are few people, people are VALUABLE to each other. Everybody's crazy anyway (you have to be crazy to live so far North), but everything is also clean, the animals are utterly predictable, and pretty tame, all in all, there's plenty to eat, and there's no disease.

So, all of the things that are the most dangerous when the world ends: disease, starvation, violence...you avoid starvation and disease by getting to the sea, and you avoid the mass of desperate people by walking North.

If you have to.

All of this assumes that, in a crisis, somebody who knows what to eat and how to "do things" that are useful, and who is generally charismatic and that people turn to, won't be able to work out cooperation with the neighborhood rapidly so that we all work together and stay put, and do what we can right there.

The wild card is violent people. Cold is your friend, really. Fire is easy. Food is easy if you stay close to the sea.

What will people do...that is the question. If one has leadership and knowledge, people will follow, and many hands make light work.

If one is going to go loan wolf, well, that's sad. And not a good strategy for survival, really.

The real key is knowing what plants to eat, and if you're going to stay put, using crap to fertilize stuff.

Then you're massively stupid or believe we are massively stupid enough to believe it. Take it up the road! What did you do for a living during that time?

I am not massively stupid. I don't care whether you believe it or not. Fact is, I've fasted on water for 40 days straight, twice, as a disciplinary and spiritual exercise.

I was hungry, and obvious I lost a lot of weight. But there were some surprising positive effects too.

As far as believing you are massively stupid. No, I don't think you're MASSIVELY stupid. I think that you believe too much in your own model of how the world works, and that you do not know how to handle facts that contradict what you believe to be true. So instead of considering them, you lash out with judgment, relying upon an authority you think reposes in yourself, to discern the truth.

But of course I know that, factually, you're wrong, because I did precisely what I said, and I will probably do it again next year at Lent as well. So, I've gained valuable insight into your character: you're not just certain of your world view, you're ready to leap to judgment and call other people liars for having facts that don't conform to it.

In other words, you're not a flexible thinker, and you're not very good at handling new facts. You lash out and spit at the people who bring them.

Too bad for you, because the world is more interesting, and life is a lot stronger than you think it is. We have more options than you think we do.

My job during that time? I was a lawyer. Still am.

Now, let me give you a little education. A person in a sedentary job burns perhaps 12 calories per pound per day. So, a 230 pound sedentary man burns about 2760 calories per day, while a 200 pound sedentary man burns about 2400 calories per day. The metabolism slows during a fast.

There are 3500 calories in a pound.

In a 40 day water fast, a 230 pound man (if he maintained that body weight, which is of course impossible) will burn 110,400 calories, which is 31.5 pounds of fat.

There is some protein requirement. The body with no food uses sources of protein. It does not go for vital organs or very much muscle first. Rather, it goes to things like scar tissue, sores and the like. I was surprised the degree to which my skin cleared up, old lumps and the like disappeared (and did not return). Anything that isn't the genetic blueprint gets eaten up.

The real think missing on a water-only fast are the water soluble vitamins, particularly Vitamin C and Vitamins B1 and B2. There is a six year supply of B-12 in the body.

The average overfed American on a long fast will develop scurvy before he starves to death.

Obviously long fasting is not, therefore, a proper means of weight loss or dieting. It is, however, very good spiritually - it brings a man much closer to God by moving him farther away from the flesh.

Also, because one is not replenishing one's resources, one must abstain from all sex, including autosexual behavior, during a long fast. 40 days of celibate prayer heals the body and restores the soul.

Impossible? Not only is it not impossible, it's really rather routine. At least for me.

You too. Except that you don't believe in yourself. You think you're this fragile little being who will succumb to starvation in a week or two, or be incapacitated with hunger.

Not so. You have immense reserves in your body, and the body is very resilient. It is very good at healing itself also.

Here's another thing you won't like: I've had appendicitis four times (medically diagnosed three times). I still have my appendix. I chose to fast and allow it to heal on its own. And it did. Four times.

Most assuredly you think that is impossible, because your narrow, bounded little view of how the world works has electric fences all around it that will surely result in death if you touch them.

But actually, we're much, much stronger beings than is accounted for by your philosophy. You should change it. Reality is that we have a much greater range of motion than you believe.

Either than or I'm just a miracle man whom God protects in ways that he won't protect you...perhaps because I fast and pray?

You're not a miracle. You're an abominable curse trying to influence other people into believing the psychotic fantasy that you have a special relationship with God.

I do no such thing.

Quite the contrary, really.

I read lots of people here going on and on about God in three ways.

One way is that he doesn't exist. Well, he does. I know it from miracle. So I pose the facts of my personal knowledge to counter that. This group of people spit at me and deny my miracles because the mere existence of miracle overthrows their world view.

And that's the point: their world view is wrong because it doesn't include God, but God exists and I know it because of miracle. And to these people I give the litany of miracles THEY can look at. But they don't. They just spit. And in the process they reveal themselves to be closed minded fools. I'm trying to help them by pointing them at the truth they themselves can see to change their minds. But they, like you, go ad hominem on me instead of looking at the specific miracles I point at. Their loss.

The second is that he exists, and what he wants of people is exactly whatever my interlocutor's religion happens to believe. In those cases, I don't refer to my own miracles at all. I refer, instead, to the source material that THEY THEMSELVES use. This is not a website whose religious moralists are Catholic. They're Protestant, and they assert the supremacy of the Bible in all things.

I'm fine with that. Because, you see, my miracles sent me scrambling to know God better, so I read the Bible, as a highly literate lawyer too, with great sensitivity to language. Sensitivity enough to go and learn the Hebrew alphabet, and pictographs, and key elements of grammar and vocabulary, and Greek also, to be able to go through the key passages of Scripture and very precisely see what it says in the original languages, in various manuscript forms. If I am going to discuss God with people who privilege a particular text above all, then I am going to master that text before I start opining...precisely BECAUSE I'm interested in truth.

What ends up happening is that this type's religion contradicts in major ways with what the Scripture actually SAYS, in the original language, accurately translated. Then these folks stick with their tradition and walk out on what they SAY is the ultimate authority. Where they Bible contradicts what they firmly believe, they ignore it and pretend that the Bible doesn't contradict them. This is profoundly dishonest of them.

And then there's the third group. These are the people who love God and want to do what is right by him. They listen to him and seek the truth where they find it. They've had miracles in their lives too, so they see eye to eye with me on the key matter. FOr these people, I am a kindred spirit and my knowledge is usually helpful. Sometimes, my insistence on exactitude in the text bruises deeply held religious traditions. But we recognize our brotherhood in spirit nevertheless.

Those are the people who make this site worthwhile.

So, where do you fall? Well, I don't know your religious beliefs or views about God. All I know is that you're a rude jackass who has tried to contradict me repeatedly about things about my own experiences. You've told me I didn't fast for 40 days, twice. But I did. You've told me I experienced no miracles. But I did.

My comment, which has you all incensed, was meant to piss you off. It was a zinger directed at you. I was making fun of you, and you replied as expected with a snarling, surly, ugly response - that was factually wrong.

You positively assert things that are wrong, and you're sure of yourself. You're a poster child for the Republican Party.
