Opinions/Editorials Title: “Generating New Revenue Streams” …from impoverished serfs, no less. Any person of decency and even the flimsiest compassion feels for the myriad victims of the Feds’ failed economics. Contrast your sympathetic reaction with that of cops: they see the same misery and disaster and lament the “downward spiral in … city governments’ revenue streams” that “has occurred for the last five years starting with the housing bubble that burst property tax returns by 40 percent.” Poor little piggies might face the same unemployment their sky-high expenditures have inflicted on taxpayers: “The common reaction to a budget crisis is reducing personnel and cutting services.” And so cops must “generat[e] new revenue streams as a proactive approach to meet the fiscal crisis of today and the uncertain future of tomorrow.” While we bust our butts making the mortgage and feeding the kids, these vile predators scheme not only to “maintain” but “expand police service…” (Emphasis added. And I won’t even comment on the obscene perversion of the word “service”…) The porcine writer then invents ways to rob us further, including “fine increases by 50 percent,” “resident fee similar to a utility tax,” “public safety fees on all new development in the city” (hey, that oughta accelerate the ol’ “downward spiral”), and “pay-per-call policing.” Perhaps my favorite is “triple driving-under-the-influence fines by the court” since it explodes the excuse that the State’s war on alcohol and drugs has anything to do with safety. Nope, it’s all about the money, as is ever the case with Leviathan’s “protection” rackets. These unspeakably barbaric thugs see us as nothing more than cash-cows—when they aren’t using us for target-practice. I recommend printing this article, not only published in Police Chief Magazine but written by one such criminal, and handing it to your “cops-are-the-g00d-guys” friends so they can read of the omnivorous, callous greed for themselves. It's difficult to read through the dysfunctionalness of the writer to digest any decent talking points. Every society gets the kind of criminal it deserves. Smoke & Mirrors "trickle down" economics... Wall Street teams up with the Chicoms to downsize and outsource our industrial tax-base, and then turns around and blames the serfs and our government. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer, and the GOP/Tea Party trashes democratic principles in favor of corrupt, one-party plutocracy.
#6. To: Willie Green, Deckard, GrandIsland, Fred Mertz, TooConservative, A Pole (#5) Their solution is to find new ways of robbing the serfs. Pretty much with the added provision that the Democrats are also in on it at the party level though rank and file Democrats seem to be less interestest in free trade while free trade seems to be more supported in the GOP elected side. It seems the split is most GOP and some Democrats support free trade.
#7. To: Deckard (#3) (Edited) Here's a summation - cops are whining because Your summarization is factually incorrect. "Cops" have nothing to do with how fines, fees and surcharges are spent in a state, city, town or village budget... and every profession whines about what they get paid.
Your beef, as usual is with elected law makers.... but you don't hate them like you do the police. Any other factually incorrect propaganda you'd like to indoctrinate the users of this forum with? To: Deckard (#8) Today, police chiefs are being asked to look for ways of economizing, increasing efficiency, eliminating redundancies, and finding revenue sources. That doesn't mean police get a sales commission for tickets. lol Show me where any agency can control, DIRECTLY, an increase of budget, with an increase of fines. You won't be able too. Fact is, increased fines go to many things. The biggest thing today is WELFARE and social service budgets. Slap yourself, silly. Don't be a hater. It promotes ignorance. To: GrandIsland (#9) That doesn't mean police get a sales commission for tickets. Nah - of course not. When you were in the military, didn't executing every job description above what's expected, get you promoted? Most LE promotions are based on yearly reviews and results from promotional exams. Reviews are based on a scale of substandard, standard and above standard. Who wants to promote from sub standard or standard when there are above standard employees? Promotions in military mean raises too. Every society gets the kind of criminal it deserves. What is equally true is that every community gets the kind of law enforcement it insists on.
