Likely 2016 GOP presidential candidate Jeb Bush speaks Spanish fluently, his wife was born in Mexico and he lived in Venezuela for two years -- but he is not Hispanic.
Yet, it seems Mr. Bush might've been unclear about this at one point.
The New York Times obtained his 2009 Florida voter registration form that shows Bush marked 'Hispanic' in the field labeled "race/ethnicity."
Bush was born in Texas to parents George H.W. Bush and Barbara Bush -- who are both Caucasian.
A spokeswoman for the presidential hopeful didn't offer an explain to the Times as to why he marked his voter registration form that way.
There is little doubt that Bush will be able to appeal to Hispanic voters in his future campaign. He received 61 percent of their votes in 1998 when he became governor of Florida and almost that many for re-election in 2002.
Candidates have caused damage to their own campaigns by making similar mistakes before.
You might remember Elizabeth Warren's run for Senate in Massachusetts in 2012 when she said she was Native American without any proof. She still won the election but critics claimed she misrepresented herself for personal gain. However, a poll revealed that voters didn't give much thought to her ethnic background.
As for Bush's future with Hispanic voters, The New York Times says it's not likely voters will hold this against him either.
