Washington, D.C. Today, U.S. Reps. Mark Pocan (D-WI) and Thomas Massie (R-KY) introduced the Surveillance State Repeal Act. The legislation would repeal dragnet federal surveillance laws, while overhauling the NSA’s domestic surveillance program.

“The warrantless collection of millions of personal communications from innocent Americans is a direct violation of our constitutional right to privacy,” said Rep. Pocan. “Revelations about the NSA’s programs reveal the extraordinary extent to which the program has invaded Americans’ privacy. I reject the notion that we must sacrifice liberty for security- we can live in a secure nation which also upholds a strong commitment to civil liberties. This legislation ends the NSA’s dragnet surveillance practices, while putting provisions in place to protect the privacy of American citizens through real and lasting change.”

“The Patriot Act contains many provisions that violate the Fourth Amendment and have led to a dramatic expansion of our domestic surveillance state,” said Rep. Massie. "Our Founding Fathers fought and died to stop the kind of warrantless spying and searches that the Patriot Act and the FISA Amendments Act authorize. It is long past time to repeal the Patriot Act and reassert the constitutional rights of all Americans. I am proud to co-sponsor Congressman Pocan’s bill and look forward to working with him on this issue.”

Background

The Surveillance State Repeal Act, H.R. 1466, offers a complete repeal of the 2001 PATRIOT Act, which the NSA has cited as the legal basis for its phone metadata harvesting surveillance program. Additionally, the bill repeals the FISA Amendments Act, which contains provisions for email data harvesting, while overhauling the NSA’s domestic surveillance program. Additionally, the legislation makes retaliation against federal national security whistleblowers illegal and ensures any FISA collection against a US Person takes place only pursuant to a valid warrant based on probable cause.

One of the most oppressive presidents in the history of the USA created this madness. I won't mention any names but his initials are George Walker Bush. What is amazing to me and millions of Americans is that this scoundrel and outright liar was voted to the presidency TWICE. It clearly shows the madness of the dumb-downed Americans.

What is amazing to me is that Republicans - you know - the party that has conservatives in it that claim they are on alert against big tyrannical govt were the most fervent supports of a law that expanded the legal powers of the state by an all encompassing law that combined govt enforcement agencies called "The Patriot Act".

If this was done in a movie and they called the law "the Patriot act" I would groan at how corny and unbelievable it would be to have such an obvious kind of oppressive law using Orwellian language like that. But it happened for real - and by the party claiming they were the watchdogs against such things.

The Bush boyz were inspired by the Clinton's handling of Ruby Ridge, Waco, not to mention Hillary's placement of the explosive charges in the OKC bombing.

The Patriot Act was already written and ready to go by the time of the 9/11 false flag attacks. Where was Hillary that day?

You want to see madness? Look at his opponents. How much did they have to suck to make Boy Jorge look like a good alternative?

And as bad as Boy Jorge was, chances are he was several levels of magnitude better than Goober Gore would have been. Even his mama said Goober was so stupid he was practically untrainable.

Sadly,it hasn't gotten any better since those elections. Look at Obombers opponents.

IIRC,Bill Clinton is the one that had written up and it was sitting in the desk drawer when Boy Jorge took over. Bubba never got the chance to implement it because he stepped in it at Waco and Ruby Ridge,as well as at OKC.

Boy Jorge took over, and after the 9-11 attacks he just pulled it out of his desk and presented it.

When was the last time any of you heard of the government coming up with a plan to create a new bureaucracy from scratch without days that already had a budget worked out including rental for office space and staffing? Hell,it normally takes them months or even years to decide who's going to be appointed to head up an existing bureaucracy, never mind create and staff a new one.

I'm curious as to how long it took you to figure out the faux Conservatives are just as bad if not worse than the Progessives, Socialists, Fascists and Communists. Or have you???

I ditched the American conservatives a long time ago - what I find fascinating is that the very "cons" who somehow think they have the ability to spot where the govt is about to go all antichrist on them (i.e. tyrannical) tend to be the ones that support the "Patriot Act".

No one has really ever done a documentary or expose on the Patriot Act. Who actually wrote the law? Named it? When was it written? Was it ready to go before 9/11 or was it written after 9/11?I just don't know.

Way to little, way to late.
