Title: Ed Klein: W.H. Has Six Investigations Into Hillary

Author Ed Klein claimed that Hillary Clinton is under six investigations prompted by the White House on Wednesday’s “Fox & Friends” on the Fox News Channel.

Klein said that the White House was leaking unfriendly stories to the press about the Clintons and “it’s not only me who thinks this, Bill Clinton thinks this as well. He has said, according to my sources, that the White House is leaking to their friendly — their friends in the mainstream media stories about the Clintons, not only about Hillary, but about him and about what she did while she was in the State Department. And it’s my understanding that — and this is from sources within the White House, that the Clintons know that Hillary is under not one, but six different investigations prompted by the White House.”

He added that State Department sources are “saying that they’re taking tons of documents. They see them being wheeled through the corridors from Clinton’s old offices, and they’re going through these looking for problems on her expense account, on her dealings with foreign leaders. All of this, I’m told, is prompted by Valerie Jarrett, and the president who do not want to see Hillary Clinton President of the United States…they feel the Clintons are very centrist as far as the Democratic Party is concerned, that if Hillary becomes president, she won’t carry out the legacy of Barack Obama, which is much further to the left than the Clintons, that she’ll cooperate with the Republicans the way Bill Clinton did when he was in office, and dilute whatever Obama was able to accomplish.”

Klein concluded, “there’s going to be no support — serious support for Hillary Clinton coming out of the White House.”

I dunno. They may not be investigating her to dump her for 2016 but just sanitizing the overall record to help her.

Ed Klein isn't too reliable, more a partisan hack scandal-of-the-week guy. FNC does give him some appearances where he can flack his books.

It's kabuki theater time.

I read it like this:

So far, no other Democrat has seriously poked up his (or her) head. Party discipline is tight, and Hillary is the heir apparent. But she may not be electable. The scandals may be too much to bear. Lots of Democrats want to win this election, counting the President and his staff.

So I think you're at least half-right about the sanitizing. They're looking hard and probing. They're "stress-testing" her. If she can cut the mustard (yes, that's really the expression, not "muster", even though "mustard" doesn't make sense), then they'll back her. But if she can't, others will emerge.

Democrats are foul babykillers who need to all go die in a hole.

I thought SOSO had the exclusive franchise on kabuki declarations.

If she can cut the mustard (yes, that's really the expression, not "muster", even though "mustard" doesn't make sense), then they'll back her. But if she can't, others will emerge.

While some sources say the origin is unclear, I found this explanation.

The chief mustard maker or Mustardeer would make their mustard in large oaken barrels, allowing each barrel to mature for a number of months. This maturing of the mustard produced a thick, leathery crust at the top of the barrel which would need to be removed before the contents could be tested.

The consistency of the crust would be such that a specialised cutting implement was required to remove it. Initially a modified scythe was used but this often lead to the crust being 'dragged' at certain points and falling into the rest of the mustard causing it to lose some of its distinctive flavour.

Over many years a specialised blade was developed that had an extremely thin leading edge which widened towards the centre and then tapered at the trailing edge although not to a sharp point. This allowed the blade to skim the majority of the topcrust off, leaving a very thin slice which would be left on to protect the mustard.

Due to the coarse, leathery nature of the topcrust the blade, over time, would develop dull spots along it's length and thus required constant monitoring.

When it was time to remove the topcrust the senior Mustardeer would instruct his apprentice to pass him the blade and would attempt to slice thorough the top leathery layer. The Mustardeer would know immediately if the blade was not sufficiently keen enough to complete the task and he would pass the blade back to the apprentice and say to him "I'm sorry, but That Doesn't Cut the Mustard".

I have no idea if this is complete balderdash but I can't resist the attention to details. I almost broke into tears, thinking of the apprentice's heartbreak when his master, the mustardeer, declared his blade wouldn't cut the mustard.

I always thought that "cut the mustard" was the result of a regional malapropism - that it really was originally "cut the muster", and a military term, but that very early it became "cut the mustard", and stayed that way.

"Toe the line" is really that, though I often see "tow the line", which gives a nautical image (and is incorrect).

Another favorite is the "long row to hoe", an agricultural term, that seems to frequently turn into "a long road to hoe", which makes no sense. "A long road to ho" might describe a lecherous trucker's anticipation of the delights at the destination, but would not be the actual expression either.

"Cut the mustard" is just like "tow the line" and "long road to hoe"...except that it was so consistently used so wrongly that it actually became the correct term, a PROPER malapropism. Go figure.

If your mom had a large garden when you were a kid, the meaning was quite clear.

Because different food plants matured at different rates, you'd often have rows of uneven length. For instance, the green beans and peas no longer needed hoeing after they were harvested in mid-summer. So those would be short rows.

I had my share of water blisters from hoeing a really large garden when I was young.

My mother's favorite expressions were:

"That's the way the mop flops."

"That's the way the ball bounces."

And "That's the way the cookie crumbles."

That was what her twin sister said upon finding out, in her mid-80s, she had terminal cancer. She said "Well, that's the way the cookie crumbles." Straightforward. Matter-of-fact. That generation was like that.

I thought this referred to the Mustardeer's inability to nail Annette.
