They have had at least one person you arrested for complaining about them.

That is enough reason that I would never work for that company. Not that I could anyway.

NEVER NEVER NEVER!

Would like to know the contract a bit better for this company. Also, if a US military contract those civilians are usually under some sort of SOFA agreement. Unless for cases of murder, rape etc. or such felony type crimes.

That is why being an overseas employee (especially in Muslim lands) it is important to read the fine print.

We had a missile repair service representative contractor who got in some hot water in Kuwait. We were in Iraq but kept him in Kuwait so he could handle our maintenance depot level parts requests. He had his wife visit him in Kuwait. After a long flight she had a bad headache and wanted some Tylenol. Now this guy could have just gone on any of the 4 US Army bases in Kuwait went to the PX and get his wife Tylenol. No, instead he went into a Kuwaiti pharmacy asking for Tylenol. The pharmacist was polite and told him she needed a doctor's prescription for any 'drugs' even Tylenol. Of course genius boy decided to argue with the pharmacist and then the Kuwaiti cops were called. Of course the smartest thing he did was call a US Army officer to the site and good news is the Kuwaiti cop waited for him. Cooler heads prevailed but the cop insisted he needed to see a Kuwaiti doctor get a prescription and return to the pharmacist. The Army officer (did not know him at the time) was smart enough not to suggest to just let the contractor go and get it at the Army base. If he suggested such, both would have probably been arrested. So genius boy ended up spending about $200 USD on a five minute visit to a Kuwaiti doctor and then spent another $40 USD for 30 count Tylenol we can get at the corner store.

Just a minor type incident which shows when you are working in a foreign country you better know even the most little nuances.

The Army of course does a much better job of helping Troops avoid these circumstances. Issuing specific general orders helps a lot to avoid these instances.

Nice anecdote. Most people seem to somehow blithely assume these Islamic hellholes, however wealthy, are like visiting some European spa and you can just do whatever you like.

Well there are areas where the authorities do no harass 'tourists'. Bahrain is one. One only has to go to where all the Saudis go in Bahrain to break every Qur'an edict and see no morality police there.

UAE isn't one of them. The Brits even mounted an official campaign to warn their own citizens against misbehaving in UAE.

WTOP, 2014: Britain’s message for UAE visit: Nice, not naughty

This prosecution of a Westerner in UAE is far from an isolated case. Since this guy lived there long enough to own a car and apartment, he could not have somehow thought the First Amendment protected him so unconditionally. He should have known better than to go back after badmouthing a powerful UAE company. Or just waited until he quit and got out before badmouthing them. He's going to learn a very expensive lesson about this.

Bad mouthing your boss in the US on social media is not a good idea either. Sure we have the freedom to do so here, but the boss also has the freedom to fire that person.

But yes, something tells me this guy should have known better. His best defense is that his physical condition led him to his comments. Apologies work over there too.
