Title: HOUSE VOTES DOWN STOP-GAP DHS FUNDING BILL, DHS SHUTDOWN HOURS AWAY

The House voted down a three-week, short term Department of Homeland Security funding bill Friday afternoon.

The measure failed on a vote of 203-224 with 52 Republicans voting against the measure.

The three-week measure was intended as a stop-gap to allow the House and Senate time to reconcile their divergent DHS appropriations bills without a DHS shutdown.

Funding for DHS expires at midnight.

Last month the House passed a DHS funding bill with provisions to block President Obama’s executive amnesty.

When the bill reached the Senate, Democrats spent much of the month of February refusing to allow debate on it because they opposed the immigration provisions.

After nearly a month of Democrats blocking consideration of the bill, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell acquiesced to Democrat demands this week and moved a so- called “clean” DHS bill, free of the controversial riders.

The Senate passed that clean bill Friday morning.

Following the Senate’s passage of the bill, House Republicans passed a motion to go to conference with the Senate to reconcile the chambers’ divergent Department of Homeland Security funding bills Friday on a vote of 228-191.

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) has already said, however, that Senate Democrats will not entertain a conference committee to blend the bills.

“We will not allow a conference to take place. It won’t happen,” Reid told reporters this week.

With the clock ticking on the expiration of DHS funding House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) announced after the three-week funding bill failed that votes later Friday night and into the weekend are possible.

As it became apparent that the three-week measure would fail, House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) exited the House chamber in silence. He did not respond to questions.

This is precisely the kind of ignorant, partisan idiocy that I despise about the GOP.

O'bunghole can stick his executive orders up his ass.

This is a brilliant way to reduce the size of government.

Shut it down and never open it back up.
We had no DHS for over 200 years, and were better off without it.
I couldn't agree more.

Shutting down DHS, Customs & Border Protection, TSA, Coast Guard & Secret Service isn't "brilliant."

It's an ignorant, dumbass way to enable ISIS,Al Qaeda, HAMAS, Hizballah, not to mention other foreign & domestic terrorist organizations, individuals and drug smugglers.

Not the way you state it,it isn't,but WTF is talking about shutting down Customs, border protection,TSA,the USCG,and the Secret Service?

You ain't a puppy,Willie. Surely you remember when NONE of those organizations came under Big Mama DHS?

It's Bush's fault, petey....
The Dumb One who created DHS to begin with...
So don't blame O'Bummer...
When you defund DHS, you also defund all those other agencies that DUBYA made part of DHS.
It's all Dubya's fault, not O'Bummer's.

That's like saying Reagan or Clinton are not culpable for adding to the size of welfare or social services... because Roosevelt created it.

You can't hide your liberal agenda behind RINO hate, Willie.

It does matter. You like spending my money for the false sense of security that liberals need to survive.

Where was the DHS when two 3rd world Russian dipshits blew up a city block in Boston with a kitchen cooking pot?

I'm my own DHS.... It's called Glock

Banning an armed populace and strengthening/creating more federal police is a liberal agenda... and just creating more/bigger federal LE is something both parties do to garner more votes from the scared populace sheep.

Take a look at this last vote.

AND.....,let's not overlook how they keep trying to buy sheriff's through gifts of military equipment, seized money, and outright grants.

Come on, Pete. They ain't buying anyone. The departments don't "owe" the Feds anything for their old, outdated garbage. They just have to promise to never sell it or get rid of it unless it goes back to the Feds.

The real reason the Feds grant that shit is to make room for updated equipment. It's always a dilemma, what to do with tax funded, outdated, useless garbage.

Yeah, and the Dims aren't buying minorities with welfare and instant citizenship, either.

It's just a coincidence that they end up living on Dim Plantations and voting straight Dim tickets when they can't even read the ballots.

Yes, that is true... but the military outdated surplus garbage program is very over rated by you. It's not as significant as you think. One example.

Three years ago, while policing the NASCAR race at Watkins Glen, I talked to the Sheriff if that county about a humvee he had parked outside of the command post. It's only used as an eye piece. The Sheriff thought it was such a great idea to get a free Humvee... but never thought about the cost involved (in his little vehicle maintenance budget) to keep it running.

It's just for looks.

Another example. My department accepted through a grant, free M1' Garands. They were inspected and never used. They still sit in the ammo vault... and never will be used. The department bought Colt AR's my last year there, and I trained the whole department on Patrol Rifle" with the Colts. The Colts were fitted into all the patrol cars, the 870's removed after a policy was written.

The military garbage will sit unused... forever. The department doesn't even have a cartridge in stock for them. lol

I don't think it is significant at all from a tactical POV. It's significance comes from the goodwill it buys to give head cops macho toys to play soldier with.

My local sheriff, who used to be rational, accepted TWO of the MoFo's because they were "Free". They ain't free. The Feral Government never turns over ownership of them, they just lend them out and the cop shops that take them in are responsible for repairs and upkeep, and the feral government can take them back any time they want. They are nothing but expensive ego-boosting toys.

Best damn military rifle ever made. The FN-FAL comes in a distant second because it's not as accurate as a Garand. Or as a BAR if you are talking about serious pieces of work.

I know a local PD that still has Thompsons they were given in the 30's. AFAIK,none of them has even been out of the arms room since the 50's. Now that Clinton destroyed all the surplus 45 ACP ammo, they will never even see the range for "play time".

1) Very true. All expensive upkeep and yes, they must be kept by the PD or returned to the Feds. They do yearly inspections (not for condition but to ensure you still have the stuff) on granted equipment.

2) I was a Road Sergeant and Firearms instructor when we received the rifles. I unpacked them, inspected them and placed them in our weapons vault. When I tried to get enough ammo ordered for them to qualify the officers, the Captain came down to see me. He closed the door to my office and told me straight up that they were to be locked in the vault and never spoke of again. He felt they were an embarrassment to be shown in public, they were too long, heavy and archaic to be used. I remember him laughing uncontrollably, as he inspected one.

He told me that he would find local funds to armor the department with Colt AR's...and if I pushed the issue with the Sheriff, I'd never see AR's... and by god, 3 years later, they arrived.

The last order I received, prior to retirement was to qualify every member of the department with the 11" AR rifle. It took me a month to complete... I retired before all the gun mounts were installed in the fleet of patrol vehicles. My best shooters, on average, were my female officers. My top shooter was a male.

The FN-FAL comes in a distant second because ...

I have a "matched" grade FN-FAL which is exceptional in both consitent accruacy and precison target practice @100 yds distance and shot groups of about 3". As I move the distance further (say, 200 yds) the shot groups increasingly expand.
