Catholics should not feel they have to breed “like rabbits” because of the Church’s ban on contraception, Pope Francis said on Monday, suggesting approved natural family planning methods.

Francis used the unusually frank language during an hour-long news conference on the plane from Manila to Rome at the end of his week-long Asia trip.

The freewheeling encounters have become a hallmark of Francis’s simple style, his penchant for straight talk and his ease at using colloquialisms to make his point.

Speaking about corruption, he disclosed that, in his native Argentina in 1994, he almost kicked two government bureaucrats “where the sun doesn’t shine” after they tried to involve him in a kickback scheme.

Once again a roman catholic pope tries to override Scripture, It is Scripture that tells us to have as many children as God will provide.

One of my Catholic friends has 11 children in the modern age.

I know lots of 60 years olds+ today that were one of 9, 11, or 13 siblings. Most of them are Catholic.

Well I can understand where Faith Healing Evangelicals would be more susceptible to Scriptural population controls like widespread plague, famine and disease.

But when one accepts the life saving blessings of modern medicine, then one must also procreate responsibly to maintain the dignity and quality of life.

Do the Catholic "faithful" still follow the Pope as if he is actually the "Voice of God" on Earth? If so, they need to wake up to the fact that they, and they alone control their Salvation. The simple truth of the Gospel is that God does not need an interpreter. Now people need a Teacher, but with modern translations and tools "self taught" is equal to or superior to that of church leadership.

Clumsy speech even for this Pope. Catholics need to back away from Francis and watch him implode.

It would seem they have chosen to obey God rather than the pope.

Funny you mention that, I am in the process of doing a study on James 5:13 on.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economy_(religion)

In the Orthodox Church, in Eastern and Latin Catholic churches,[1] and in the teaching of the Church Fathers which undergirds the theology of those communions, economy or oeconomy (Greek: ¿ἰº¿½¿¼¯±, oikonomia) has several meanings.[2] The basic meaning of the word is "handling" or "disposition" or "management" or more literally "housekeeping" of a thing, usually assuming or implying good or prudent handling (as opposed to poor handling) of the matter at hand. In short, economia is discretionary deviation from the letter of the law in order to adhere to the spirit of the law and charity. This is in contrast to legalism, or akribia (Greek: ±ºÁ¹²µ¹±)—strict adherence to the letter of the law of the church...................

An example in the New Testament of the application of lenient economy, or "economy according to leniency", is found in Acts chapter 15, where the Apostles decided to limit the number and degree of Jewish observances that would be required of Gentile converts. An example in the New Testament of the application of strict economy, or "economy according to exactness (or, strictness, preciseness) [akribeia]", may be seen in Acts 16:3, when St. Paul set aside the usual rule to circumcise Timothy, whose father was a Gentile, to placate certain Jewish Christians. In both instances, economy was exercised to facilitate the salvation of some of the parties involved.

It sounds like the Pope is putting for the Orthodox idea of economia.

Who are the ones today having 9, 11 or 13 kids?

BTW, traditional Catholic teaching has always endorsed birth control, natural means of birth control. I don't know how many Catholic babies came out of the chute singing I've Got Rhythm back then but the Pope may.
