Angels-Astros this week. Do we want the Stros to finish off the Angels or the Angels taking down the Stros? We can expect I think one team to win two of three which pretty much keeps things the way they were. Twins have an easy road until KC for last season series. Will KC be resting starters or fighting for home field? Will be interesting all the way to October. Looks like the ugly inning ended up being the 5th put the game pretty much out of reach... Something I've never figured out is when the starting pitcher is having major control issues why do they keep him out there? I can see why when the rosters are only 25, (but now they have 40) come on they should have had somebody warmed up and ready to go the top of the 5th, somebody who could go 2 innings or so... Yes, after Seager got on base they should have brought in Nick Martinez. So will be quite a fight to the finish now in the AL West. Rangers can't play footsie with the A's. They have to at least win that series and if they want a chance to gain back a game, they have to sweep. I think we get Sonny Gray on Thursday. Rangers have a much better record against the Stros (12-4) than the Angels (5-10) so you should probably root for the Stros... Their record against the A's is 6-10... This is the way it's supposed to be everybody in the division fighting it out to the end the last 30 games or so... They have a good line, vaunted ehhh not so much, especially the way they call penalties these days... The line can only do so much it's up to the QB to get rid of the ball quickly and the RBs to be patient till a hole opens up, obviously neither happened yesterday... Liked Murrays line again yesterday 13 rushes, 2 yards!!! So is that Murrays fault or the lines fault, hmmmmm..... Mostly and obviously when they were playing quite badly:) There were a couple of earlier season series with the A's where they lit up Martinez and Gonzalez, thus helping to reward them with a new zip code in Round Rock Texas. Then last go around Colby Lewis pitched a gem against the A's and Chi Chi did well. To me it look no different on the Dallas side. Our RB did not do any better or worse than when we had Murray[who I like]. Murry did not do squat behind a less than average OL. I have been impressed with Dallas's D. 2 games and almost no offensive scores by the other side. Other teams have had to get their defense to score to stay in the game. Randal did not eat up anymore of the meat on the bone either. Then again that could have been because Dez was hurt and teams could focus more on the run.

Interesting as the struggling 'triplets' of Holland, Perez and Gallardo will now headline the Stros series this weekend. Maybe a smart move, don't know...we will find out:) Sonny Gray not pitching on Thursday so that's a plus. Perhaps Banny is seeing what I mentioned in the other post. Angels won 6-5 today (close one in the bottom 9th) So we are back to 2.5 games up with a chance to make it 3.0 games up tonight. Still scratching my head at bumping Hamels out. Don't know if Banister sees the Angels as the real threat now and wants Hamels to pitch the last game of the season against them. After our series with the Stros, they go on for a series with the hot Mariners in Seattle. We play Detroit who seem to be pitching by 'committee' these days. Looks like he's drying out behind the ears a little he's covering all the bases. This will give him the flexibility to use him in 3 games (if needed) versus the 2 he was scheduled. They have won the last 7 of his starts so he thinks he may need that last one against the Angels, they seem to be putting a run together. If he doesn't need him for the last game (or the play in game) then he will get some extra rest before the playoffs start... Looks like Josh is trying to run the bases to see if the knee can handle it and Martin is starting to take some swings at the plate... So have you thought about who will be on the 25 man roster come the playoffs? It might be kind of early to speculate especially with the status of the 2 above up in the air... I say they take 12 pitchers and 13 position players, 5 IF, 5 OF, 2 C and 1 DH... I think you might see some surprises in who makes the playoff roster if he's willing to take some chances... BTA this will have an effect on what he does too... Beginning with the 2007 post-season, two changes were made to the injury replacement rules. These were: (1) The position player for position player and pitcher for pitcher requirement for replacing an injured player in the PEL prior to the start of a post-season series was eliminated. (2) Players injured during the course of a post-season series could now be replaced during the series. Such replacement must be done on a pitcher for pitcher, position player for position player basis. The rules regarding the players eligible to become replacements are the same as those used for injury replacements prior to a series. However, the injured player, once replaced, is ineligible to participate in any further post-season series, even if he is later healthy. Rules are fair in my opinion. If Martin can swing a bat and throw and catch a ball take him on. Good speed and his bat HAS to be better than Stubbs and Venable combined. Those dudes play great OF but have holes in their bats. Josh would be a great bench bat. As an AL team, the Rangers are handicapped when playing in an NL ballpark. Does Fielder or Mitch play first base? Which ever bat is most hot? Two persons you might have a tough time deciding between is Alberto and Rua. They are the only 2 that I know of that can fill in at SS or 2B if either Andrus or Odor gets hurt and has to sit out a game or 2... I don't know if Rua is that good at either position but I know he's played them before, about the only things he hasn't done is P and C... If he gets some good at bats before the end of the season, if not it's a tossup he's just another one of the multitude of LHers they have... Not hitting was the reason he got sent down and hasn't swung a bat now in over a month, his timing would be way off. Is Stubbs worse at bats behind him now or are they still to come, hmmmm... Top of 7 Rangers ahead 6-1... Venable in LF today instead of "No balance Naps".. :) Hamels has thrown 87 pitches thru 6 do you pull him to give him a little extra rest or let him stay in, hmmmmmmm... Looks like they decided he should get the rest they put in Kela... Now 8-1 bottom of 8th... The only solution to that I can see is can Mitch play LF or RF??? If not then one sits and that would screw up the whole lineup. If we still had Cruz this wouldn't be an issue... Royals have lost their closer Greg Holland for the rest of the season, that could put a big crimp in their style and chances to win the World Series...

He needs to cheer up a bit:) Fraley is acting like Hamels has faced them numerous times this year when he hasn't, only once and he won. All the rest of the damage done has been done by the rest of the staff and that has been considerable, IIRC the Rangers are 12-4 vs the Stros. Nobody must be reading his articles so he's just stirring the pot to get some attention...
