The country is a mess. The state you live in is a mess. The county you live in is a mess. The city you live in is a mess. But what have you performed to prepare for disaster from any force whether manmade or natural?

Have you electrical power? Solar/NaturalGas/Propane/Gasoline Generator(s) to generate electricity for your various needs? Water? Food? Shelter? How about a library whether hardcover/paperback/electronic? What about personal defense?

The goal of this thread is to describe your ideas to become self-sufficient within reasonable personal means, independent of the messes that most know pre-exisit in an arbitrary world.

Make a comment about what you have performed and/or plan to do.

Actually Texas is not a mess to respond to disasters. We do it quite often. West TX and Hurricane Rita come to mind as well as Katrina in the Gulf areas. Texas responded well. The locals pull together. When West TX had the fertilizer plant explosion local emergency response was well managed. Hundreds of local churches opened their doors for the homeless, fed hundreds, provided clothing and even work. In the secular Northeast people went dumpster diving for food after Sandy while they waited for the Usurper in chief to bring them FEMA.

Yeah, we have a full fridge and freezer. I think we are ok for natural disasters, which normally have a short duration. If Bucky wants to know about preparations for solar flares or invasion by the elves and the gremlins or an end of the world, about the best he could do for long term survival is buy a couple of boxes of Hershey's Chocolate. What part of "end of the world," that they constantly talk about do they have a problem understanding? If the world ends as many of them predict, do they expect to live on a tiny slice of Mother Earth whizzing through the Galaxy while they are guzzling home brew? It all reminds me of the building of fall-out shelters craze of the Cold War Era.

What happens when your electrical power is disrupted? Do you (as the thread title indicates) have backup electrical power?

Donnie .. please do a favor for those viewing the thread: stay on track. Nowhere have I indicated "end of the world" scenarios. In fact, you have consistently poised yourself as a Christian evangelist that believes in some sort of, "end of the world" as Jesus is coming for you and taking you to heaven because of your strident belief system. Why on Earth are you projecting your own ideas on me or anyone that intelligently considers planning for uneventful disasters?

I suppose all you require is a cross, a Bible and a prayer in order to prepare.

Doomsday Preppers are always talking about that scenario and go off into left field looking as though they anticipate living in a Road Warrior movie; of course, we all know you have your feet planted firmly on the ground and you never watch the Preppers shows on the National Geographic channel. That is right, of course, right?

Stay on target, Luke! Stay on target!

Donnie ... I havn't watched TV since 1993. So, again, you are wrong. Here, let me help you out: read your Bible and pray to some illusive God while rolling your rosary between your thumb and forefinger. Wh knows ... you might, just might, get closer to the truth.

Come on, Bucky. You don' need to be ashamed. I won't tell anyone.

Rosary? Why shucks, Partner, I don't have one of those things.

What do you learn based on your many fruitless hours devouring selected topics on TV? How to pray? How to smell nice? How the weather is forecasted when all you have to do is stich your head out the door and treat yourself to the actual environment?

Planning is everything. And watching TV is not planning; the act is a vegetising experience for the almost brain-dead; watching National Geographic and catching a glimpse of the latest infomercial is hardly worthy of one's time; this is true of my time.

OK ... so you don't run your rosary between your fingers; what other Christian amulet do you use?

Everything depends on what you are looking forward to. You did say planning. You are a Prepper, aren't you. Don't forget to stock up on some good books.

This is good news for us, Donnie; I am confident that only you shall take your own recommendation as the gosple truth. However, since most of us are mere mortals and live in reality where history has proven that there are plenty of reasons about intelligently preparing for disasters, I am confused about your significant contribution to the thread.

What do you do when Lex Luther shows up? Show him your comick book or your Bible?

Impossible. My family and I shall be enjoying clear, sub-micron filtered, sparkling water with all kinds of added coffees, teas, milks, mochas and so forth, along with diversified 2K calorie freeze dried foods that allow a mere PRESTO! for preparation for some of the finest gourmet foods on the planet.

But you won't have any access to any of this stuff because of your choice about lack of planning. Nope. You have your comick books as your guide.

I have a secret for you. That food doesn't sound that good. What happened to beef and veggies in your "plan".

I didn't mention any specific food group other than a general way to ensure that you understood a 20+ year storage life capability for food: freeze dried method of food storage - this method applies to all organic or carbon based natural compounds both plant and animal; simply stated, the approach removes water for storage purposes within a vacuum chamber and when properly stored/packaged/handled, little loss of food content is achieved. Restoring a product is adding water, which I also mentioned as being pure sparlking water (slight alkaline content). Here is the brief content I suggested in the earlier post:

Do I have to indicate all the food groups based on your omissions? If so, you need more than a brief post about being intelligently prepared for a disaster through planning - you need a complete education.

Hi Don - this thread is intended to discuss being prepared for disaster; there was no other intent other than at the top of the thread which has not been edited or changed or modified in any way.

This thread is NOT intended to be about about your "God" or "Him" or some make-believe religious study based or any religious doctrine pulled out of someone's ass in the past just because you believe in some form of ... ol'tyme religious tooth-faerie making you feel good and beam like a cock in the morning.

If anyone has been an authoritative jack-ass, it has been YOU. So far, all you have provided to the thread are off-topic commentaries about some Christian belief that measures up to your Sunday school teacher's pathetic rendering about the Bible. Also, you have posted dissent about having general and reasonable personal plans for having good drinkable, water and freeze-dried foods. You should feel embarrassed or have a sense of shame about how you have made this thread so important to YOU.

Don  posted on  2014-03-06   21:32:07 ET  Reply   Untrace   Trace   Private Reply

Yes. I have maintained a solar voltaic system at my primary residence for over six years. The system was designed by myself: it covers ALL requirements to fully keep the home electrically charged.

I also have backups beyond just that system. I have a natural gas to electrical unit to supply a mere 7K WATT/hrs. Even assuming that system blows out for some reason, I have a gasoline based to electrical generator for upto 7K WATT/hrs.

Nothing is perfect. But my family is prepared. How about you?

I have no need for a wood stove. Yes, I have several propane stoves however they were purchased for camping; they could be utilised for a disaster, however.

Billy Graham sounds alarm for 2nd Coming

Famed evangelist sees signs ‘converging now for the 1st time’

Published: 10/20/2013

Evangelist Billy Graham

By Troy Anderson

And last week, Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., claimed the world has entered the last days.

“When you see up is down and right is wrong, when this is happening, we were told this: that these days would be as the days of Noah,” Bachmann said.

“I see a fuse being lit here, between what Billy Graham, Michele Bachman and Benjamin Netanyahu said, and I think there is going to be an explosion of interest in the end times like nothing we’ve ever seen before,” McGuire said.

“The dramatic and unprecedented planetary climate change is something on the level of the apocalyptic predictions of the Bible,” McGuire said. “We’re on the verge right now, because of climate change, of massive food and water shortages, which could affect tens of millions of people worldwide because of the droughts that have occurred. The intense heat and water shortages have dried up the crops, and we are going to see that play out in the near future because of all the freak weather.”

Blood moons

Against this apocalyptic backdrop, prominent faith leaders such as Graham, Greg Laurie, Cahn and John Hagee say they are witnessing an unparalleled acceleration in last-days signs that suggest the Second Coming is fast approaching.

Hagee, pastor of Cornerstone Church and author of the newly-released book “Four Blood Moons,” told his 22,000-member congregation recently that the appearance of four blood moons on Jewish holy days between April 2014 and October 2015 points to a “world-shaking event” that could signify the beginning of events leading up to the seven-year Great Tribulation.

God is using the heavens to announce things to come, says Pastor John Hagee.

“I believe that the heavens are God’s billboard – that he has been sending signals to planet Earth and we just haven’t been picking them up,” Hagee told his San Antonio, Texas, congregation. “Today, with the help of God’s word and some very astute scientists, I’m going to walk you through 500 years (of four blood moons on Jewish feast days) and show you how God is literally screaming at the world: ‘I am coming soon.’”

The phenomenon, a rare combination of lunar and solar eclipses, has only occurred a few times in the last 500 years – 1492, 1948 and 1967. It will happen again in 2014-15.

The previous dates correspond with the Jews’ expulsion from Spain and Christopher Columbus’ discovery of America (a sanctuary for the Jewish people), the creation of Israel, the Six-Day War and what Hagee and other Bible prophecy scholars believe could be the Middle East “War of Gog and Magog” predicted by the prophet Ezekiel 2,700 years ago. This war, according to Bible prophecy scholars, involves an attack on Israel by a coalition of nations led by Russia and Iran.

“I would not want to live in any other period,” he said.

“The Apocalypse (the unveiling of the end times) speaks powerfully of trouble ahead with storm warnings that carrying a booming jolt of truth. The warning is clear: prepare to meet thy God – followed by the voice of the gentle Shepherd – ‘Come.’”

A new world is coming, Graham wrote. The paradise that humanity lost in the Garden of Eden will be regained. Christ is coming to conquer evil and establish his perfect rule over all creation

“But until then God wants to give everyone an opportunity to know Christ through repentance and faith,” Graham wrote. “Regardless of what society says, we can’t go on much longer in the sea of immorality without judgment coming. We are at a crossroads, and there are profound moral issues at stake. It is time to return to biblical truth.”
