NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – One down. How many to go?

Brewers superstar Ryan Braun was the first victim of Major League Baseball’s investigation into the Biogenesis of America clinic, as the league suspended him on Friday for the remainder of the season without pay.

Now the focus has shifted to Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez.

The evidence against the 14-time All-Star is ”far beyond” what the league had against Braun, according to ESPN.com. However, the Yankees don’t expect Rodriguez to be suspended immediately, sources told the website.

ESPN.com is also reporting that, according to sources, Rodriguez could very likely face a suspension similar to Braun’s.

An MLB source told CBS Evening News’ Jim Axelrod, however, that the five-time American League home-run champion could be looking at a lifetime ban.

So will the three-time American League MVP cut a deal with the league?

“My understanding is he’s trying to make a deal,” a source told the website. “But I don’t think it’s going to happen (Monday).”

A-Rod has admitted to using performance-enhancing drugs while with the Texas Rangers from 2001-03. The injured 37-year-old, who has denied using them since, told WFAN radio last week that he hasn’t instructed anyone to make a deal with the league “at this point” regarding a Biogenesis-related suspension.

But following Braun’s decision to cooperate with MLB investigators, A-Rod could end up changing his mind and taking the same route.

CBSSports.com/WFAN baseball insider Jon Heyman reported on Monday, prior to the announcement of Braun’s punishmen, that Rodriguez’s suspension is expected to be announced within the next two to three weeks.

“I don’t know what happened with Alex,” Yankees closer Mariano Rivera said on Monday. “He’s my teammate, and I have to support him 100 percent. We need to see where this goes. The good thing about this is we’re cleaning the game. That’s the way it should be. I think this is a message for whoever tries to do this again, that it’s going to be caught. It’s going to be caught.

“I mean, I have to support him. He’s my teammate. He’s my brother. Definitely, I (can’t) say if he did or didn’t do it. If it happens, I can’t throw him in the street, you know? He’s still my brother.”

The 20-year veteran batted .272 with 18 home runs and 57 RBIs for the Yankees in 2012. He hasn’t played at all this season.

I gave up on pro baseball after that strike in '93(?). Like many sports involving millions of dollar, cheating is part of the game.

I think I have 7 Reggie Jackson Topps rookie cards from my teenage days. They were worth something when he made the Hall of Fame, but then the baseball card business became crooked too. I suppose they're worth a few bucks to someone.

I only started following again after the Tigers started doing good. Still don't just sit down and watch all nine inning of a game. Usually have it on the radio and if it is a tight game, might watch the last innings.

Tigers are an awesome team. I am a Texas Rangers fan since the early 2000s before they started getting good. Was a Mets fan as a kid, but with most of my military service when not deployed in Texas, my boys converted me:)

Did you get to see Matt Garza's debut with Texas last night?? He looked pretty good only giving up one run (unearned).

Also beginning to look like Berkman is done for the year and may be retiring.

Actually only saw the game from the 7th on. But did see the highlights. Awesome outing and he is a keeper. Hope he stays healthy and if he does I hope Daniels signs him to a long term contract. Having Yu, Harrison, Garza, Holland and Perez for years to come is something we need in Texas baseball. Now we need to get a RH bat OF and this team will get much better.

Yeah we may have to trade for Morales of the the Mariners if Berkman is out for the season. JD knew Berk was a crap shoot. Berk is a good man and won't hurt this team by pretending he can come back if he really can't. Unlike A-Rod with the Yankees.

We may have a hole at RF power bat since I think Cruz is going to strike a deal with MLB and will miss the remainder of the regular season.

Yeah we may have to trade for Morales of the the Mariners if Berkman is out for the season.

So what do you plan on doing with Moreland if you acquire Morales to play first?

They are also looking at Adam Dunn 1B and Alex Rios OF both of the White Sox.

Don't think we will get Morales but if we do he would replace Berkman as DH. Keep Moreland at 1B---great defender and once he comes out of this slump his bat will be key.

Hey man, I'm heading to watch the Louisville Bats tomorrow, so thanks for providing me a bit of motivation. Free parking, $7 cheap seats, my brother's birthday and $1 beer (Thirsty Thursday). I'm not even sure who they'll be playing against - I think Scranton/Wilkes-Barr.

I think the last ball game I attended was when Camden Yards in Baltimore was brand new circa 1990. So it has been a while and I'm looking forward to tomorrow's game.

Enjoy the game Fred. AA games are awesome. A bunch of kids trying real hard to make the big leagues. Usually high scoring games or one side has a pitching prospect that pitches a shut out. Great thing about going to minor league games is that you can watch a kid develop and when he hits the big leauge you can point and say "I remember that kid when he was at AA." I have my son get autographs from the AAA team. I told him, you never know if the player is going to be the next big star and you will have his autograph before many people.

I did enjoy the game and am glad I went and may go again in the future. The Bats lost 5-0 to the Syracuse Chiefs. It was AAA ball and there is some sort of voting going on for the best AAA venue and Slugger Field is in the top three last I heard.

Breaking news right now Re: A-Rod and others...another black eye for MLB, IMO.
