Opinions/Editorials Title: Today, Mitt Romney Lost the Election You can mark my prediction now: A secret recording from a closed-door Mitt Romney fundraiser, released today by David Corn at Mother Jones, has killed Mitt Romney's campaign for president. On the tape, Romney explains that his electoral strategy involves writing off nearly half the country as unmoveable Obama voters. As Romney explains, 47 percent of Americans "believe that they are victims." He laments: "I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives." So what's the upshot? "My job is not to worry about those people," he says. He also notes, describing President Obama's base, "These are people who pay no income tax. Forty-seven percent of Americans pay no income tax." This is an utter disaster for Romney. Romney already has trouble relating to the public and convincing people he cares about them. Now, he's been caught on video saying that nearly half the country consists of hopeless losers. Romney has been vigorously denying President Obama's claims that his tax plan would raise taxes on the middle class. Now, he's been caught on video suggesting that low- and middle-income Americans are undertaxed. (That one is especially problematic given the speculation about what's on Mitt's unreleased pre-2010 tax returns.) Corn tells us there are more embarrassing moments on segments of the video he hasn't released yet. Romney jokes that he'd be more likely to win the election if he were Hispanic. He makes some awkward comments about whether he was born with a "silver spoon" in his mouth. But those are survivable. The really disastrous thing is the clip about "victims," and the combination of contempt and pity that Romney shows for anyone who isn't going to vote for him. Romney is the most opaque presidential nominee since Nixon, and people have been reduced to guessing what his true feelings are. This video provides an answer: He feels that you're a loser. It's not an answer that wins elections. Poster Comment: Mitten's stepped in it this time...'but good'!!! #2. To: Brian S (#0) Almost half the country have made it clear they are all for Government freebies. This is not "earth shattering" it is FACT.
#3. To: SJN (#2) "There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that's an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what ....These are people who pay no income tax." http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2012/09/where-are-the-47-of-americans-who-pay-no-income-taxes/262499/ It's always a bad idea to disparage voters , and the soundbite helps to cement the idea that Romney is out of touch with the average American -- clearly, he's not trying to connect with nearly half of them! On the other hand, Romney is disparaging folks whose votes he's already written off. So let's set that speculation aside and look at who the people are who actually pay no income tax. Romney's statements are a little unclear, but it appears that the 47 percent figure represents all of those who pay no income tax, rather than the Democratic base. His problem is that those people are disproportionately in red states -- that is, states that tend to vote Republican: ![]() ![]() #4. To: Ferret Mike (#3)

If you want attention Boris, go bother 'Jasmine' who doesn't take my advice to pretty much ignore you. Feel free to exasperate her to the point she sees I am right about you. Thanks. ![]() ![]() #6. This is Bloomberg talking. A leftist NYC Jew who thinks Ted Kennedy was a rabid right-winger. Bloomberg may even think Obama is a radical right-winger. If Rombama had a pair and would say things like that in front of TV cameras,he would run away with the election. As it is he is so wishy-washy and busy telling everybody anything they want to hear that nobody really trusts him because nobody knows what he REALLY believes. #8. To: A K A Stone (#7) (Edited) You really do hate the US don't you? Why don't you move to your beloved Israel so you can vote for your beloved Bibi legally, Maybe Mitt will move there after he loses here too. Who knows? Maybe he can convince them to send their pharmaceutical industry to China or sell off lots of their US paid for infrstructure and communes. Almost every country in the Middle East is awash in oil, and we have to side with the one that has nothing but joos. Goddamn, that was good thinkin'. Esso posted on 2012-01-13 7:37:56 ET #9. #12. To: A K A Stone (#11) (Edited) Nice of you to admit that democrats are deadbeats and that Romney was right. I said no such thing but then that's the only way you know how to win an arguement. By making SHIT up. And Romney no doubt thinks YOU are included in that 47 percent. But maybe he'll hire you as his shoeshine boy. Or Ann might hire you as a full time groom for her dressage horse that definitely was not of Olympic quality. You would rather have some stupid African up there telling us they wane peace when they don't. You like being lied to. If you and capitalist eric talked about only Israel I'm sure you two would get a room and CE would get a disease.
#14. To: mininggold (#12) I said no such thing That is exactly what you said. When you accidentally tell the truth do you always apologize for it?

No interest at all.

Oh the neocon's are in full meltdown mode today as they smell defeat in the air. They really shouldn't get so shrill so soon. Hell, there is 6 weeks before election day. (if they demo's are rolling out this stuff already, just imagine what they have in the 'hopper' to unleash come mid October.) It is not easy reconstructing 'molded minds'... #19. Obama's political blood is about to be spilled come November.
#21. To: calcon (#16) so bitter and so nasty, typical 47%er This 47%er (but in reality a small business owner) as you claim has actually owned a horse that went on to do quite well in dressage and three day eventing. It actually made the alternates in 3DE for the LA 82 Olympics. Let's just say Ann's horse wouldn't have made the cut without a Romney name as the owner. Her horse made 'green' mistakes and is also somewhat of a lazy mare, that lacked the flexibilty needed to compete at the Olympic level. #28. To: A K A Stone (#26) I thought I saw a post of yours where you were thinking about growing dope? Yeah... everyone says that on the internet. I plan to grow dope, come and get me. My crops are unusual. Generally fruit but sometimes veggies and sell for a lot more. A guy did come around asking me to raise some for him medicinely, he's since been run out of business. To: Brian S (#0) This is an utter disaster for Romney. Yea Ok..... LOL... All he has to do is ask them if they want something more from their lives than working for minimum wage and/or being on a government entitlement program... BTW the last poll I seen of likely voters showed over 64% of them said the entitlement programs have to be cut back... So it looks like some of those in the 47% think that being in the 47% SUX!! Choosing and voting for a presidential candidate is like picking which STD you want to suffer from…. #31.
