Humor Title: George W. Bush Will Not Attend Republican National Convention According to Politico, former president George W. Bush will not be attending the Republican National Convention in Tampa next month. “President Bush was grateful for the invitation to the Republican National Convention,” Bush spokesman Freddy Ford wrote to the website. “He supports Governor Romney and wants him to succeed. President Bush is confident that Mitt Romney will be a great President. But he’s still enjoying his time off the political stage and respectfully declined the invitation to go to Tampa.” Politico notes that Bush’s decision saves the Romney campaign from “having to face the delicate question” of whether to invite the unpopular former president to address the convention. Bush, who did not attend the 2008 convention either, is still widely blamed for the nation’s current economic problems, and almost two-thirds of Americans say Romney’s economic policies would mirror those of the Bush administration. Bush’s father, former President George H.W. Bush, has also declined to attent, citing health issues. According to Talking Points Memo, however, another member of the family, former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, does plan on attending. Obama's watch stopped on 24 May 2008, but he's been too busy smoking crack to notice. #2. To: hondo68 (#1) Oh, I'm sure he got one--the GOP is big on 'social etiquette....but he just realizes he will have a lot more fun riding his bike or jogging 10 miles or otherwise doing what he does rather than attend some stiff, boring, planned to the nth degree dull convention. Have you ever attended a county or state convention? For any party? I have. Just another way to see how governing is at work. When I ran for office, I attended the state convention. I even offered up a plank for the platform. The plank was to make private all the jobs that could be, i.e., instead of having a department for printing documents and forms, etc., hire it out to the private sector. Back then, Arizona had privatized trash collection, as I recall, and it initiated quite a bit of savings. The plank was adopted. I believe it was this that brought me to the attention of the party politicos. I was offered a position in the state senate--as the journals clerk. This position allowed me to see stuff further in how government operates. And how ironic things can be. As a candidate, I was for heavy spending cuts, eliminating excess assets, etc. At the end of the legislative session I wrote a lengthy letter to the GOP leadership on areas I had come across during my time as the clerk that showed where spending could be reduced or eliminated. I was a bookkeeper and executive secretary by training and experience. I didn't even receive a 'thank you go to hell' note from any of the 8 people I sent the letter to. This convinces me the GOP as well as the Dems have absolutely NO DESIRE to curtail spending.....they only derive power from spending to buy us. That is just one thing I learned during my time there....it was very worthwhile. Too bad all citizens can't have that sort of experiuence.
