The importance of the Hispanic vote to President Barack Obama’s re-election chances is practically impossible to overstate. Yet the significance of the Hispanic vote to the long-term prospects of the Republican Party is arguably greater still. A Latino Decisions poll of 5 swing states released June 17 revealed that Obama’s executive action to ease the pressure on young illegal immigrants, enabling them to avoid deportation and apply for work permits, has resonated with Hispanic voters. A previous Latino Decisions poll had found widespread discontentment with Obama’s record 1 million deportations; in January, 41 percent of Hispanic voters said they had grown less enthusiastic about the president as a result. In the swing state poll released Sunday, however, 49 percent of Hispanics surveyed in Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Nevada and Virginia said the president’s halt on youth deportations would make them more enthusiastic about Obama, with only 14 percent saying it would make them less so. If a rise in “enthusiasm” leads to a rise in Hispanic turnout to close to 2008 levels, it could make the difference for Obama in some or all of those five states -- and possibly others besides -- in November. Colorado, for example, has 455,000 eligible Hispanic voters. In 2010, Democrat Michael Bennet won a U.S. Senate seat there by a margin of about 29,000 votes. Among Hispanic voters, Obama is crushing Mitt Romney: A Gallup poll conducted from May 14 to June 3 found Hispanic voters preferring Obama to Romney by 67 percent to 26 percent. There are perhaps 2 million more eligible Hispanic voters in 2012 compared with 2008. If Hispanics are firmly in Obama’s camp and newly energized to vote, Romney has a tough call to make. He could reverse his opposition to the Dream Act, which would appeal to Hispanic independents but offend his base. Or he could try to squeak to victory by relying almost entirely on white votes, given Obama’s difficulty with white working-class voters. If Romney wins the gamble, he can use his presidency to build bridges with Hispanics, the nation’s fastest-growing ethnic group, perhaps by promoting a Republican version of the Dream Act and walking back his campaign rhetoric on related issues. (A better economy certainly wouldn’t hurt.) If he loses the gamble, however, life gets very interesting for the Grand Old Party. In a second term, Obama would have enormous incentive to try to lock in Hispanic loyalty to the Democratic Party. Republicans would then have to decide whether to surrender on the Dream Act and comprehensive immigration reform, knowing that if they went along with Obama, he -- not they -- would get the credit. The alternative would be to continue blocking immigration legislation that, for many Hispanics, is a signifier of attitudes toward Hispanics as neighbors and fellow citizens. As a 2010 LatinoMetrics survey found, 30 percent of Hispanic voters considered racism to be a factor in anti-immigrant views. After calls for electric fences and the like in this year's Republican presidential primary, it's doubtful that number has declined. If Republicans opt for a continued stonewall on immigration, they risk alienating Hispanic voters for the long haul.

The geezers in the GOP are screwing the pooch by standing around SCREAMING about having the jack-booted police round up and deport upwards of 15 million people. I don't care who is President, this is never going to happen. The GOP has nothing to gain and everything to lose by continuing with this ridiculous position. They should be figuring out a rational and reasonable solution to the issue.
I thought they came here to make something of themselves, make a better life for their families??? So now why would they come here to this country and vote for the same schitt they just ran away from???? Doesn't make a damn bit of sense!!!

Of course it does, because the vast majority of the GOP are SCREAMING for the Mexicans to go back home. I'm in the computer business. I know a ton of successful people who were born in India. Many of them started their own companies and employed Americans. They support the free market every bit as I do. Yet, most of them vote for Democrats. WHY? Because they perceive the fundamentalist bible thumpers in the GOP as being hostile towards them because they are not Christians. People aren't going to vote for a party that is perceived as being hostile to who they are. They just aren't. The dimwitted Republican Party better start fucking understanding this or they are going to become the permanent minority party once again, just like they were between 1932 and 1994.
So they would rather vote for their OWN and this countries demise than try to figure out how to fix the problem.... (Oh well nobody ever said religious people were smart).... All families have problems, it just takes time to fix some of them...

What are you talking about? If someone is SCREAMING at you, you aren't going to vote for them. It's just that simple. Latinos tend to be Catholic and very family oriented. Indians tend to be entrepreneurial and also very family oriented. They should be natural GOP constituencies, but they are not because the GOP is fucking up big time.
And for what reason are they saying this??? Is it because they are breaking the law in more ways than one??? Last time I checked the prison population in this country was 35-40% Hispanic.... HHmmmmmmm..... Maybe they just want them to be law abiding citizens!!! That would be a nice thing for a change considering how the Leftards are changing the laws just to benefit themselves and their voting constituents!!!! and to hell with everyone else......

Let's suppose your parents brought you illegally across the border when you were 3 years old. Today you are 19. You don't think that it's unreasonable and harsh for the government to round you up and deport you? This is exactly what Obama's executive order deals with -- people who were brought here when they were kids. The GOP's response? FOAMING AT MOUTH. I don't agree with solving the problem through executive orders, but the GOP is not only STUPID, they are downright MEAN in calling to punish people who are here through no fault of their own and have worked hard and stayed out of trouble. The breadth and depth of the GOP's idiocy is truly amazing.

In India, members of the rightist Hindu National Party are the one's the persecute and commit violence against non-Hindus (Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, and Muslims). They are afraid they they were be persecuted for their religion by religious extremists, because that's what they have seen in the past.

That very well may be true but breaking the law is breaking the law no matter how unfair it may seem.... How long have some of them had to make it right and become law abiding citizens, and have chosen not to do so???? And how many of them came here illegally and did the right thing and got their citizenship???? The one's that did the right thing and abided by the law don't have that much compassion for those who have chosen to ignore it for years and years.... The best things in life aren't free, there is usually a price to pay!!!

1. They didn't break the law, their parents did. Are you a feudalist (or Klingon) who believes that children should be punished for their parent's sins? 2. The punishment for breaking this law doesn't have to be expulsion from the country. There are many other options. 3. Given how many laws there actually are, I'll bet you your bank account against mine that you are breaking the law every day. If the jack-booted thugs came and investigated you (or any of us), enormous fines and maybe jail time would be the likely outcome. After all, breaking the law is breaking the law.
If they are under the age of 18 their parents are still responsible for them so it's a moot point.. Wherever their parents go they go.....

Once you open that door you can never close it and that means nobody will have to obey or respect the laws anymore.... (That's one of the biggest reasons this country is going straight to hell because some laws aren't being enforced, this one being one of the prime examples)... Or are you gonna pick and choose just because you feel sorry for some and not others???
