Be advised if you plan on attending the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Florida this summer. You can’t bring your water gun to the designated protest zones, but your concealed pistol? That’s just fine, according to an article in the Tampa Bay Times.

Under Florida Statute 790.33, local municipalities are forbidden to make or pass any restrictions on the “sale, purchase, transfer, taxation, manufacture, ownership, possession, storage or transportation of guns or ammunition.” So, when Tampa city officials attempted to regulate gun possession with the so-called “Clean Zones” around the proposed convention site, they found that they were already overruled.

“Even if we tried to regulate it, it would be null and void,” City Attorney Jim Shimberg told the Times.

Assistant City Attorney Mauricio Rodriguez said, “”It was just kind of common sense. We felt if we’re going to regulate people carrying sticks and poles, why wouldn’t we regulate people carrying firearms, because those could pose significant risks to police and other protesters.”

But, facing disciplinary action by the state, including “judgments of up to $100,000 against local governments that enforce local gun ordinances” and action against local officials that could include removal from office, fines of up to $5,000, and denial of representation by city or county attorneys, Tampa legislators backed down.

The outlines of the “Clean Zone” have not been set, but it is expected to cover all of downtown Tampa, the Ybor City neighborhood, and several other areas. Within the zone is the protest area, where demonstrators will be screened to keep out weapons and other potentially hazardous items.

The city has placed limits on the size and duration of parades and rallies, as well as restrictions as to where and when gatherings can be held. Derek Netwon of the Florida ACLU says that the civil liberties group has a number of concerns about the city’s handling of potential protesters, and that ACLU attorneys are looking over the current list of rules.

“We have concerns any time there’s an attempt to restrict speech,” said Newton, and that the organization would make its findings public as soon as the legal review is complete.

No firearms except those belonging to on-duty law-enforcement personnel will be allowed inside the convention. The U.S. Secret Service has the authority to establish and maintain its own secure perimeter within the convention area.

The 2012 Republican National Convention will be held August 27-30. Subscribe to *Tea Party On Parade*

Actually I think it is a 'good thing' for all to be packing and carrying in the GOP Convention...

The DNC convention is being held in North Carolina in Sept.

North Carolina is a 'shall issue' state. But you'll be safe, cause Dems are too pussified to carry.

lol Seems the pussies are those who are so scared of being attacked that they feel need a gun to protect themselves.

My preferred weapon is the Kimber Stainless II, .45 ACP.

Am I scared of being attacked? Hardly. Carrying this weapon- and two Wilson Combat magazines- gives me a warm feeling.

People sometimes ask why I carry? The answer is simple: the police are under NO legal obligation to protect me or my family. This has been affirmed repeatedly in the courts. Thus, the responsibility falls to me.

Your point is based upon gross ignorance.

Thanks for playing. :)

The likelihood of you ever being assaulted with a deadly weapon is very very low especially if you take precautions. You are more likely to die from a car accident so maybe you should not drive to "protect" your family.

The likelihood of you ever being assaulted with a deadly weapon is very very low especially if you take precautions.

The old saying still applies, "without data, you're just another person with an opinion."

So here are some data-points.

I've had people try to assault me with a deadly weapon on two separate occasions, even though I took normal precautions.

I've also been in three different situations where I drew my weapon, and legally would have been "clean" had I decided to pull the trigger. but part of being a responsible gun owner means knowing when and when not to actually squeeze the trigger, regardless of whether I'm legally justified in doing so. Each time, the presence of a weapon has caused the person I drew on, to back down, and I've never actually had to go that final step.

You are more likely to die from a car accident so maybe you should not drive to "protect" your family.

You're unable to substantiate that claim, since the police don't keep data where the presence of a weapon de-escalated a crime situation.

But nice try. I find your gyrations amusing.

I doubt if an asshole like you could go ten feet without half a dozen people wanting to kick your punk ass.

Pulled your weapon three times is complete bullshit from a pussy trying to play tough guy. The only thing you've ever pulled is your tiny little dick.

You two have more in common then then disagreement. You both want the old America back. You both think Obama sucks. There is a start.

There is a start.

Hardly. Calcon has inadequacy issues. He doesn't know what it means to be a man, so he poses as one. It's all he's got.

His statements can be viewed through that prism, in that he believes everyone else is the same; trying to prove their "grit," you could say... Yet his ubiquitous taunting only serves to demonstrate how weak he really is.

<<< Smirk >>>

With regard to loonyming, she attacks because she dislikes anyone who rejects her world-view, where Socialism cures all ills, American women are the cats' meow. To her, any man who rejects the propaganda she so happily accepts, is a threat, someone to be attacked and minimized.

Getting back to calcon, he's far more similar to rat-boy, in that he's weak, intellectually lost, and directionless.

Couldn't the same be said about your name calling, for example To: mcToejam, rat-boy, drippy, Alzheimer Fred, whitesands, t-bird, loonymom, ming, e-type jackoff, goober56, wreck, cal-CON, rabid dog, dummy DwarF, biff, harrowup the communist, and meguro. He considers you an attacker, and he carries and routinely warns off intruders with a gun. I would be very careful if I was you.

Who knows? He might be doing this at the behest of Eric, who seems to have a strange attraction to you.

Stone is setting himself up for a whole host of problems by letting his emotions overrule any common sense he might have left.

Do you think he would be half as attracted if he knew we were two separate people?
