ThinkProgress has obtained an internal memo from Premiere Radio Networks listing 96 national companies that have “specifically asked” their advertisments not be played during the Rush Limbaugh Show. Premiere is the distributor of Limbaugh’s program. The advertisers have also requested to be excluded from other right-wing hosts including Michael Savage, Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity. According to the memo, the listed companies’ advertisements should be excluded from these programs because they have been “deemed to be offensive.”

The existance of the memo was first reported over the weekend by Radio-info.com, an industry newsletter. Radio-info did not publish the full list of companies. The memo was posted website of the Traffic Directors Guild of America, an association of professionals who distribute paid advertisements to radio stations. The memo was quickly deleted but ThinkProgress obtained a copy from a Google snapshot of the site taken on March 9.

Previously, ThinkProgress has reported that 50 companies requested their advertising be pulled from the Rush Limbaugh show following his sexist attacks on Sandra Fluke. The publication of the memo adds an additional 91 companies to the list of companies that have dropped Limbaugh:

Premiere denies that there has been any move by these sponsors to drop Limbaugh's show.

Instead, they point out that the vast majority of those firms listed have never advertised on Rush. Or Levin or Hannity or MSNBC or on any controversial political talkshow.

This list keeps growing because the Media Matters bunch and ThinkProgress bunch keep issuing these bogus lists of companies who are supposedly boycotting Limbaugh when they were never advertisers of his to begin with.

You must think we are stupid to even try to post something like this.

And Limbaugh would love to see the videos. Don't those videos usually show mostly a naked man's butt?

It's a typical thing with leftists. They just automatically believe stupid things, and think that everyone else more stupid than they are...

Yet, while they're grossly ignorant where reality is concerned, they feel they're in the elite group, because they feel more, care more...

Leftists are both stupid and arrogant- Brian S., loonyming, rat-boy and the rest all demonstrate this combination daily.

It's an unnamed Premiere source in a NewsMax article.

Admittedly, not definitive.

About 3/4 of that sponsor list are not companies I ever heard advertising on Limbaugh over the years but I only listen now and then, mostly if something scandalous has happened when he has some juicy scathing humor.

I can't recall any of the car companies ever playing an ad on Limbaugh or paying him a premium to read an ad for them. It's just not their corporate style at all. They go for the premiere ad slots, like during the news.

Premiere Source: 98 Advertisers Not Targeting Hannity, Beck, Levin

Reports this weekend that as many as 98 major advertisers are asking not to air their ads on conservative radio shows are "totally bogus," a source close to Premiere Networks told Newsmax Sunday night.

Premiere Networks syndicates top-rated shows like those hosted by Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Mark Levin and Glenn Beck.

This past weekend, news reports on sites like Politico and the Huffington Post are suggesting that as many as 98 major brands and major businesses are asking that their ads not run on such conservative talk programs. The reports suggest the advertisers are taking the action in the wake of comments made by Rush Limbaugh about a female Georgetown law student.

"The fact is that these advertisers, with a few exceptions, have never been advertising on Premiere's conservative shows," the source said.

It is well known that major companies and brands often shun both conservative and liberal shows and outlets, as Madison Avenue advertising firms keep "do not buy" lists of programs they believe may upset their client's customers.

"Most of these 98 firms don't air on liberal MSNBC or radio shows like Ed Schultz's. There is nothing new here," the source said.

Why the controversy then?

Last Friday, Radio-info.com published an internal Premiere memo it said offered a list of 98 companies that did not want to air on conservative talk shows.

According to Radio-info, the list of advertisers include "carmakers (Ford, GM, Toyota), insurance companies (Allstate, Geico, Prudential, State Farm) and restaurants (McDonald’s, Subway)."

"These companies for the most part never advertise on Rush, Hannity and other conservative talk shows," the source said, adding, "And they usually don't advertise on liberal shows either."

The Premiere memo being cited actually is just a reminder to stations of long- standing policy telling their ad traffic managers not to fill unsold ads in conservative talk radio programs with such brand advertisers.

"The media is trying to create the impression -- one being propagated by the liberal Media Matters -- that there is mass movement against conservative shows," the source said. "But it simply isn't true."

The source also told Newsmax that several major advertisers who have dropped Rush have already indicated to Premiere they plan to come back on his show, and other Premiere shows like Hannity and Levin have seen strong ad revenue growth.

An excerpt of the Premiere memo follows:

“To all Traffic Managers: The information below applies to your Premiere Radio Networks commercial inventory. More than 350 different advertisers sponsor the programs and services provided to your station on a barter basis. Like advertisers that purchase commercials on your radio station from your sales staff, our sponsors communicate specific rotations, daypart preferences and advertising environments they prefer… They’ve specifically asked that you schedule their commercials in dayparts or programs free of content that you know are deemed to be offensive or controversial (for example, Mark Levin, Rush Limbaugh, Tom Leykis, Michael Savage, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity). Those are defined as environments likely to stir negative sentiment from a very small percentage of the listening public.”

I have heard many of those listed advertising on the local stations during the Limbaugh show.

I've heard some, not many.

But those are all the syndicated ads, part of the program. You're talking about local advertising which is where the local stations get their revenue.

So losing two subscriber stations and gaining one isn't that bad, really just background noise as stations move into or out of a particular radio genre like talk radio.

I still see nothing that looks that painful to Limbaugh long-term. His main problem, that his target demographic is aging, is unchanged.

I've heard virtually all of them at some point or the other on the two main stations in my area that carry him. I'm also aware it's local advertising, but because it occurs during the Limbaugh program they have been able to get top dollar.

Radio-Info.com stories:

Most Popular

  1. When it comes to advertisers avoiding controversial shows, it's not just Rush
  2. Limbaugh rejects Sleep Train Mattress' bid to get back in bed with talker
  3. Rush syndicator tells news/talk affiliates not to run its barter spots for 2 wks
  4. R.I.P.: Legendary rock guitarist Ronnie Montrose
  5. Limbaugh deserters: 3 dozen national/local advertisers have pulled out of Rush

Interesting that these numbers of lost advertisers from MediaMatters varies so much. This is a concerted attack by Soros-affiliated groups.

So Premiere is giving local stations two weeks of extra ads for free to keep them in line.

By then, they expect the hub-bub to die down and they'll go back to business as usual.

Anyway, there is a bit more hard news in these stories than in the previous ones.
