Other Title: Another New Toy - 69 Camaro Somebody STOP ME! 1969 Camaro - not sure if it's a base coupe, RS, SS, Sport Coupe, etc. I'm hoping someone here will know something about it. It had, and comes with the original, numbers matching 307, but it currently has a monster 350 in it. It's been years since I drove a car as fast as this one. All emblems are gone. I do know it's an X11 car, but that's just a trim package. Wont know about the protecto plate till I get it home and look for it. Whatever it is, it WILL BE an SS, even if just a clone. I'll post pics when I get it home. Post Comment Private Reply Ignore Thread Top • Page Up • Full Thread • Page Down • Bottom/Latest #1. To: We The People (#0) (Edited) Is it an original or a new one? BTW,there was nothing "monster" about the 350. The Z-28 302 would outrun them, and you could also get 396,402,or 427's in Camaro's,depending on the year of production. To: sneakypete (#1) Is it an original or a new one? I'm guessing it's a new 69 model pete. I'm waiting for next years hemi dart tho....but i'll be changing out the bias plys for them new fangled radial tire thingys i hear are coming. chuckles.....don't spoil the man's fun and drive him over to trade it in for a government motors volt-ss pete!!!!! LT-1's weren't boat anchors and maybe one a them got plopped under the hood. Death to everybody who does not get outta my way. (decided to retire the beatdowns on old worthless retread posters that are bozoed) #3. To: We The People (#0) numbers matching 307 BTW WTP....the original 307 puts this in the "appliance" class of cars for that time -- so keep the 350 handy:):) Then look up Performance Auto Wholesalers(aka PAW) and tune out the wifely frequencies. Ever see those ads for growing your hose 4 inches in two weeks? PAW can help on that and the wife will thank you. Death to everybody who does not get outta my way. (decided to retire the beatdowns on old worthless retread posters that are bozoed) #4. To: sneakypete (#1) New one? I'm not sure what you mean. This car is a 1969 Camaro. It originally came with a 307, in 1969, but currently has a monster built 350, as in big cam, bored .30 over, etc.
#5. To: e_type_jag (#3) BTW WTP....the original 307 puts this in the "appliance" class of cars for that time -- so keep the 350 handy:):) Yeah, I just found that out while reading up on the old girl. Probably just a base Camaro. But... that doesn't mean she won't make a very nice SS clone! ;o) All the works for 4 wheel disc brakes comes with the car too. Spindles, rotors, calipers, etc. Stainless brake lines, stainless fuel line, original wheels, many more new parts comes with. I'll tell you this, when I hit 3rd and the tires were still spinning and I was still sideways, I was 18 again! So no need for any 'hose growing' today. In fact, it's been much more than 4 hours, so I'd better call my doctor. LOL!
#6. To: We The People (#4) New one? I'm not sure what you mean. You can now buy brand new 1969 Camaros and Mustangs. Seriously. Manufacturers are now making brand new bodies they put the old data plates on,and are creating brand new 69's. The upholstery and other restoration parts have been around for a long time. In fact,I suspect the truth is these cars are better than the originals because most of the buyers opt for things like newer brakes and the cars are assembled with more care. I seriously doubt you can buy a "new" Yenko Camaro because those tags are still on the cars. You can buy a clone, though. To: sneakypete (#6) A "new" Camaro built off a Dynacorn shell will run in the BIG bucks... My '68 was a shell I picked up for $2000. All told, I'll be into it for $20K. It's not hard to be into one for $40+'K, these days. Let's put it THIS way: craigslist is your *friend!* To: mcToejam, rat-boy, drippy, Alzheimer Fred, whitesands, t-bird, loonymom/ming, e-type jackoff, goober56, wreck, cal-CON, rabid dog, dummy DwarF, biff, harrowup the communist, and meguro. You're on the "a waste of human flesh" list. Brian S[ocialist], you're a propagandist moron. ALL of you can piss off. #8. To: sneakypete (#6) You can now buy brand new 1969 Camaros and Mustangs. I have said for a long time that GM should do that. In fact, I've wondered why they had not. Nice. I didn't know that.
#9. To: sneakypete (#6) Do you mean like this... http://www.classicautomotiverestoration.com/turn_key_camaro.html or is GM building them?
#10. To: We The People (#0) I not a camaro man but that's the nicest one they made. It looks better then most of the camaros I usually see in the rear view mirror of my mustang.
#11. To: Capitalist Eric (#7) A "new" Camaro built off a Dynacorn shell will run in the BIG bucks... True, but you are starting with a straight rust-free car that has never been rusted out or damaged Given the rust and other damage most late 60's Camaros have suffered over the years and what it costs to fix the damage AND the earlier "repairs" most of the time,it can still be a reasonable expense.
And let's face it,40 grand ain't what it used to be in this day of 20 grand economy cars that are worth 5 grand less the day you drive them off the lot. To: We The People (#8) I have said for a long time that GM should do that. In fact, I've wondered why they had not. I never figured out why Ford didn't start producing new 1940 Ford coupes and convertibles with all new Mustang running gear. One of the most beautiful cars of all time and even aerodynamic even by today's standards. They would have to run 3 full shifts 7 days a week to keep up with the demand. Offer these things with new car warranties and financing, and just watch them fly off the floor. Then again, the dealership mentality being (I would rather make a whole years profit by selling 1 car instead of 100 cars",chances are the dealers would jack the prices up from 30 grand to 100 grand, and kill the Golden Goose. To: We The People (#9) or is GM building them? GM's only involvement is in selling licensing permits allowing others to legally manufacture parts identical to the original GM parts. To: calcon (#10) I not a camaro man but that's the nicest one they made. It looks better then most of the camaros I usually see in the rear view mirror of my mustang. I always thought the AMC Javeline was a prettier car than either, and may have even been more reliable. Just like with the Mercury Cougars, their downfall was a dealership base that only ordered cars with the small V-8 and automatic transmissions. The Javeline with the 343 would run with the 350 and 351's,and one with the 390 or 401 would run with the GM and Ford big blocks. To: sneakypete (#14) I remember they also came out with a 2 seater car called the AMX. Almost bought one in the early 70's but just couldn't afford it. You must be right about the dealers on the javelin, I don't remember ever seeing a javelin with any real horsepower.

To: calcon (#10) I not a camaro man but that's the nicest one they made. It looks better then most of the camaros I usually see in the rear view mirror of my mustang. LOL! What?!? That 6 cylinder hatchback?!?
#22. To: Murron (#20) Thank you. I love it too. When I got it home, my wife kept saying, "Man, it's beautiful!"
#23. To: We The People (#21) LOL! What?!? That 6 cylinder hatchback?!? 6's are for girls. I've got a fox body mustang with about 25K in mods. All my engine work was done by JBA racing in San Diego and that car is scary ass fast. Love to take it to the shop and watch the mechanics face when they pop the hood. It's got one bad ass engine and sounds so sweet, I could just sat and listen to it purr for hours.
#24. To: We The People (#19) I didn't see where you had posted a picture. That looks really good and I'm sure you can turn it into one bad ass machine.
#25. To: We The People (#0) Somebody STOP ME! Why? You're diggin it and why not? Congratulations! I picked up my new wheeler the same day! My excuse was snow plowing. But ... Spring time is a coming. Bring on the mud! SOON, some more than has been usual lately innocent local Rainbows are DOOMED. (We're going to need a lemon or two.) Then, ... we watch for the first sea gulls. Salmon must die. So, let us lift a glass to 29 Feb 2012! SLAINTE! Every breath is a GIFT! It's snowing ... Spoiled, stupid and ignorant, brain dead phuckwads, libTURD fools, tools, and idiots, are the real sickness; the messiah "king" obammy and his regime are only the symptoms. #26. To: calcon (#23) 6's are for girls. I've got a fox body mustang with about 25K in mods. All my engine work was done by JBA racing in San Diego and that car is scary ass fast. Very nice! Post some pics if you will. I'll get some photos of the motor today. Maybe even some video so you can hear it. The interior on this car is trashed. Some of the window, door, rear fender and wheel well trim is missing. I've got some of it to put back on but not all. I'm thinking blood red for this car. Or... should I go back original rallye green? What do you think?
#27. To: Mad Dog (#25) Somebody STOP ME! Thank you sir! I picked up my new wheeler the same day! My excuse was snow plowing. Ahhh, the things we say to get what we want. LOL! I convinced my wife that we could fix this car up and make money when we sell it. But... I have no intentions of selling this car.
#28. To: We The People (#27) Ahhh, the things we say to get what we want. LOL! LOL. Yeah, I'm about in the same boat... I'll sell it, if I have to.... but I really don't want to. Nice pic. I like the 67-68 better... but the 69 looks REALLY good if it's got the RS hide-away headlights. If it were me, I'd strip her down to metal, make the body arrow-straight, and paint it a dark metallic green. Externally, it'd look like an RS/SS-396, similar to the following pic: Under the hood, I'd find a 6-liter or 8.1 liter engine out of a Suburban/Escalade, with matching auto transmission and EFI. It'd deliver pretty good power, get good fuel mileage, and run very smooth. IF you want a solid EFI engine, I'd look at the LT-1/4L60E combination that they used in the '94-96 Impala. Good power, very reliable, and (because the new "hot" ticket is the LSX platform) cheap, for a complete engine and trans. To: Capitalist Eric (#28) (Edited) That looks somewhat close to the rallye green that this car was originally painted. I have to admit though, I like the color you posted better. It looks deeper and darker. I like the Z28 striping better too. So many decisions! My wife wants blood red and I also have to admit, I'm leaning that way, but just not sure yet. I have startup and engine video coming shortly.
#30. To: Capitalist Eric, sneakypete, Mad Dog, calcon, Murron, e_type_jag (#28) Keep in mind, she's been sitting for 15 years. Belts, hoses, tires, etc are pretty dry so I don't wanna be too hard on her just yet. Not like I was last week anyway, when I drove it for the first time. Seems to be smoking a bit too. We'll see. nutritiouscrap.com/videos/1969camaro.wmv
#31. To: We The People (#26) I'm thinking blood red for this car. Or... should I go back original rallye green? What do you think? You gotta go with the blood red. I painted my stang candy apple red and it's so sweet no color fits a bad ass ride better then red. I saw your comments about making the car an SS clone and I'd thought about making my fox a Fobra but decided in the end to make the car as plain as possible. Took off all the badges etc so it just looks like an average stang of the error. Thought i'd end up surprising some moronic tuner but then engine so sweet no ones ever tried to race me. Oh well, I'm way too old for that crap anyway. I envy you man, I was looking at your picture and wishing I could get my hands on that baby. It's going to be sweet.
#32. To: We The People (#26) The interior on this car is trashed. Some of the window, door, rear fender and wheel well trim is missing. I've got some of it to put back on but not all. My stang had some factory red houndstooth interior which was totally gay and I changed it out for black vinyl. What's the availability of parts for the car? The good thing about the fox body mustang is that it was in production so long and was so popular there's no a part for the car I can't find instantly on line. For my stang, I purchased a brand new beefed up crate motor from Ford Racing and had JBA install and modify the engine for speed. They put a E303 racing cam in it which gives it such a sweet sound. I redid the interior, body work, brakes but left the engine and transmission replacement to the pros.
#33. To: calcon (#23) 6's are for girls. Really? Give me 25 grand to rework a 300 cubic inch 6 to put into a Mustang or Maverick, and we'll talk. If you really think that about 6's,take my advice and NEVER run against a 4 cylinder Offenhauser engine. It would make you suicidal. To: We The People (#26) should I go back original rallye green? What do you think? Rallye Green with houndstooth interior. That's what I picked for the 69 RS/SS I orderd while I was in VN. Then I extended my tour and had to cancel the order. I have regretted doing both ever since. To: sneakypete (#35) Yeah, cause homos NEVER wear black vinyl or leather, right? not sure, i've never met yukon in person.
#37. To: sneakypete (#33) Really? Give me 25 grand to rework a 300 cubic inch 6 to put into a Mustang or Maverick, and we'll talk. I have a number of "tuner" friends and I'm well aware of how much horsepower can be cranked out of a 4 or a 6. Say whatever you will but I'll always opt for an 8.
#38. To: calcon (#32) What's the availability of parts for the car? The parts appear to be readily available but a bit more expensive than I'd hoped.
#39. To: sneakypete (#34) Rallye Green with houndstooth interior. I don't think I can do houndstooth. I'm thinking of going with black leather.
#40. To: We The People (#38) Touch base with me when you get further along...... I can help as far as finding spare parts from various sources. To: calcon (#31) I envy you man, I was looking at your picture and wishing I could get my hands on that baby. Well, I wouldn't recommend envying me right now. Aside from the metal that needs cut out and welded back in at the rear shock mounts, I need to do the 4 wheel disc brake conversion, electronic ignition, install some new suspension parts - front coils, rear leafs, ball joints, etc., a mechanical fuel pump, a new fuel tank & lines, (there is currently a fuel cell and electric fuel pump in the trunk) a new shifter, complete new interior, new doors, new paint, blast the undercarriage and paint, new glass, tires and wheels, a sound system and a new console with gauges. And I'm sure there will be more that I haven't found yet. The engine was smoking a little. I hate the 'just getting started' part of a project. I'm a bit overwhelmed right now, especially when I start totaling all this up. I haven't done a project like this since the 80's.
