Collusion is more of a graphical cloud-type display but it doesn't (yet) offer blocking of those services. I recommend the more popular Ghostery. It is on Mozilla's Recommended list. Collusion is too new and much more nerdy. And you can't install both at once (yet). Ghostery shows you a small pop-over list at the upper-right corner of the page for about 5 seconds on any web page that has cookies/tracking on it. Many big sites have a list of a half-dozen or more that pops up. The ones that are enabled show in regular type, the ones you are blocking have an Ghostery allows you to configure all these trackers and block them universally along with a whitelist of particular sites that may require you to allow cookies/tracking in order to use them. I like Ghostery's notifications and blocking system. Collusion does have nice visuals and may reveal a few relationships between these scumbag tracking companies and their hosts but Ghostery lets you do something about it, not just visualize and study it. Collusion is worth watching and valuable for studying these tracking organizations and how they operate but Ghostery is a solution that works now. I don't want to just know who is tracking me: I want to do something about it. Other FF security extensions I use: NoScript, AdBlock Plus, BetterPrivacy (manages and deletes Adobe supercookies).
#2. To: TooConservative (#1) Thanks for the information. I think I posted something here about Ghostery before. I have it but haven't checked it out to closely. Just heard about it a couple or 3 weeks ago I guess. Any other useful firefox extensions you would recommend?
#3. To: A K A Stone (#2) Any other useful firefox extensions you would recommend? Well, I like the geeky ones just like I expect you would. Firebug, Greasemonkey, Stylish. For posting articles, I found Aardvark to be superb but they can't seem to keep up with this mad rush of version updates. You invoke it by right-clicking a page and selecting it from the popup menu. You can then hover over any element on the page and hit a key to delete that element (and its child elements). Or you can hover over the main article body and remove everything except that highlighted area. Aardvark is (was) like Nuke Anything Enhanced on steroids. I see Ghostery as a real winner, the same caliber and broad utility as AdBlock or NoScript. Does the job, doesn't get in the way, easy to configure.
