Opinions/Editorials Title: Corseted Minds: Does Fear of Irrelevance Send Conservative Men Fleeing to the Victorian Age? In the last 50 years, American women have finally been able to reliably earn a living, thus rendering men economically unnecessary. Women are outstripping men in education. We’re breaking the glass ceiling. Childbirth out of wedlock no longer carries disgrace. There’s enough sperm stashed away in banks to promulgate the human race indefinitely. On a biological level, modern science has debunked the Adam’s rib story about the female being a derivative of the male. Still more shattering, there’s even worry that the Y chromosome is in danger of extinction. At the very least, it has seen better days. As the New York Times recently reported: “Men, or at least male biologists, have long been alarmed that their tiny Y chromosome, once the same size as its buxom partner, the X, will continue to wither away until it simply vanishes. The male sex would then become extinct, they fear, leaving women to invent some virgin-birth method of reproduction and propagate a sexless species.” That’s gotta make Rick Santorum nervous. (Though the Times does concede that men may have “long-term viability” after all). Conservatives find themselves in an era of technological advance, information on steroids, women on the rise, and men who do not know what their role is supposed to be. Can we be surprised that they look back wistfully on a “simpler time” when gender roles were strictly defined – and when men did the defining? As Joyce Appleby explains in her book The Relentless Revolution, it was capitalism that helped let the Angel out of the house, driving the medical breakthroughs that made the development of reproductive technology possible. And it was capitalism that withered away the bonds of power between men and women that for millennia had been based on male religious authority, and replaced them with bonds based on economic value. The priest no longer determined what women are for. The advertisements in Vogue, maybe. But not the priests. This is the postmodern paradox that conservatives must contend with. And it's driving them absolutely bonkers just now. No wonder "real conservatives" are so cranky.
#11. To: lucysmom (#1) Liberalism/feminism really is a mental disorder. The only reason why girls are doing better in "education" is because the system punishes boys for being male and tests kids on feelings over facts. Smart parents don't let heir male children become part of that system.

Catholic schools don't have a reputation for being liberal, but they do have a reputation for abusive suppression of youthful exuberance.
#31. To: lucysmom (#25) Who is James Dobson? And I have no Idea about Catholic schools. The department of education needs to be taken apart tho - for abuse against males. I know that much.

#35. To: lucysmom (#33) (Edited) Actually, that is my experience as a Mom of two boys. I educated them myself- until they were big enough to tell the feminists to sit down and be quiet. Now they are allowed to succeed and compete and win. That and the fact that since my two boys ACE their standardized test scores- they need my two boys- more than we need them. I will just pick up and pull them out of school, and take them to the next school over- if the staff start to pull any of their nonsense on me. I got this one down. The leftist/feminist educators stay out of my way, trust me. :) When I call them, it is "Yes m'am- what can we do for you?" lol...

Replies to Comment # 41. Awesome. :) I hope you will find that feminism is poison. Women who truly beleive in equality ,reject feminism. Lets be honest- feminism is about female domination.
#43. To: lucysmom (#41) Feminism is a crutch for people with weak minds. For men who want to be dominated- and for women who want to control men by force. It has nothing at all do with equality. Importunately, therefore- feminists only seem to understand the law of force- and they need to be put in their place by the people who have the real authority and power, who have strong minds to reject their propaganda. Feminists will bring violence upon themselves.
