Santorum "is rigid and a homophobic. He believes that gays and lesbians, he mentioned in an interview in 2003, about bestiality, and gays and lesbians. I think that's disgusting," former Senator Alan Simpson told CBS News. **************************************
Stephen Colbert distilled the absurdity of Rick Santorum's attack on President Obama's governing "theology": "Folks, I have often warned you that President Obama is an anti-religious zealot, which is surprising since he is also a devout secret Muslim."
Santorum has recently gone for broke in running on a platform that the United States should be governed based on his personal interpretation of the bible. Apparently he doesn't even bother pretending to revere the Constitution, because the Establishment Clause in the First Amendment states, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." In short, there is -- according to the founding legal document of the United States -- no national religion.
But Santorum has the pedal to the metal when it comes to viewing Jesus as America's commander in chief - and the "man on dog" driver appears to be on a Holy Spirit brand of methadone.
The other day, Santorum made an hallucinogenetic assertion to a group of supporters in Texas: "When you marginalize faith in America, when you remove the pillar of God-given rights, then what's left is the French Revolution. What's left is a government that will tell you who you are, what you'll do, and when you'll do it. What's left in France became the guillotine."
Colbert filleted Santorum's demented logic the other night by guillotining a banana with a condom wrapped over it, since Santorum opposes all forms of contraception. Heck, "Opus Dei" Rick even has asserted that prenatal care leads to abortions.
Did we also mention that the GOP candidate who makes the Pope seem like a liberal secularist recently implied that the US under Obama's presidency is akin to the rise of Hitler? And what about the former Pennsylvania senator telling a university audience in 2008 that "Satan has his sights on the United States of America"?
Rick, who appears obsessed with denouncing homosexuality with fire and brimstone, also appears to renounce having sex for pleasure. In fact, he is not just horrified by gays; he appears wrathful about any sex that is not for procreation. Here's a statement he made a couple of years ago to "people of faith":
"Woodstock is the great American orgy. This is who the Democratic Party has become. They have become the party of Woodstock. The prey upon our most basic primal lusts, and that's sex. And the whole abortion culture, it's not about life. It's about sexual freedom. That's what it's about. Homosexuality. It's about sexual freedom."
Isn't it ironic that Santorum would turn the US government into a religious police state, a theocracy similar to Iran's, just a different religion?
