Title: Republican Candidate Airs Racially Charged ‘Debbie Spenditnow’ Ad During Super Bowl

A Super Bowl ad for U.S. Senate candidate Pete Hoekstra uses an Asian woman speaking in broken English to accuse his rival, Democratic incumbent Debbie Stabenow, of helping the Chinese economy.

“Thank you Michigan Senator Debbie Spenditnow,” the woman says in the 30-second ad as she rides her bike through a rice paddy field.

“Debbie spends so much American money, you borrow more and more, from us. You’re economy get very weak, ours get very good. We take your jobs. Thank you Debbie Spenditnow.”

Hoekstra then appears in a new frame, saying, “I think this race for Michigan Senate is between Debbie ‘spend-it-now’ and Pete ‘spend-it-not.’”

His $150,000 ad buy begins in Michigan during the Super Bowl and will run for two weeks.

It is not the first time conservatives have used fears of a rising communist China in advertisements.

During his campaign in 2011, Rep. Mark Amodei (R-NV) ran an ad that depicted the Chinese army marching on the U.S. Capitol, thanks to President Barack Obama raising the federal debt limit.

Another ad produced by the conservative group Citizens Against Government Waste showed a Chinese professor in the year 2030 explaining that Americans now “work for us” because of U.S. debt.

In a statement, Hoekstra’s explains that the ad contrasts his “penny pinching agenda” with the “big-spending policies” of Stabenow.

But the Michigan Democratic Party released its own ad on Sunday, which highlights Hoekstra record of spending while serving in the U.S. House from 1993 until 2011.

“Hoekstra’s attempt at a Hollywood-style makeover is incredibly hypocritical because the fact is, Pete spends a lot,” said Mark Brewer, Chairman of the Michigan Democratic Party.

“Hoekstra voted for the $700 billion Wall Street bailout and voted for trillions more in deficit spending before quitting Congress to get rich at a Washington, D.C. lobbying firm,” he added. “Hoekstra is using the big game to play games with Michigan voters, covering up his real record on deficit spending and rigging the rules for the big money insiders he serves.”

Poster Comment:

Hoekstra is an asshole who I will gladly work against. Will never forget how Santorum and he called a news conference to display Saddam Husseins "WMD". LOL. Old just left over from the early '80s. Subscribe to *Tea Party On Parade*

I'm from Michigan. My wife is Asian and one of smartest, hard working women that I have ever met. Thank god that I was able to flee Michigan for Seattle in the late 1980s. Unfortunately, my mom, two sisters and their families are still in Michigan. I can't solve all of the world's problems.

While far from anything resembling normal, Michigan is on the rebound thanks mainly to auto production.

I don't seeing Romney having a chance in this State while maintaining the position, rightly or wrongly, that GM and Chrysler should have been allowed to fail. Even Ford didn't like that scenario.

No...

Do you know how many times in my life I've heard that Michigan and Detroit are on the rebound???

5, 10, 15... more???

Michigan is the poster boy of reactionary 20th century thinking.

Every once in a while you have some gains, but they are always offset by much larger losses.

Over the last 40 years, Michigan has done NOTHING to fundamentally change their place in the world. NOTHING.

That's why I abandoned Michigan 23 years ago.

Well I'm still here and seeing the progress. You can sit and dispute that from wherever you are posting from but what I'm seeing and experiencing is for real.

BTW. I would think you should be touting the MI turnover as the citizens of this state installed a 100% GOP gov't. a year ago January.

ROTFLMAO...

Yep, I'll bet that you've been seeing "the progress" for 40+ years.

It's called being delusional.

Whatever. I'm sure you know the 'day to day' here in this State, from whatever place you are posting from, that is NOT in Michigan better than any.

Truely an authority on the Michigan economy...indeed!

Whatever...

My mom and two sisters live in Michigan. I know exactly how delusional they are.

2000 -- My family to me... you are crazy, Detroit is coming back, just watch...

2010 -- the Census bureau reports that Detroit lost another 250,000 people since 2000 (on top of losing 1,000,000 people between 1940 and 2000). Detroit's population is now 700,000 (down from almost 2,000,000 in 1940).

Detroit is the biggest hell hole in America.

Michigan / Detroit is NOT coming back in our life times. PERIOD.

Here is a question for you:

The University of Michigan is one of the very best graduate schools in the country in a whole bunch of subjects.

What percentage of U of M graduate students stay in Michigan to invent new things and create new businesses???

1%... 2%... less than 1%.... ???

The answer is miserable for Michigan's future...

So why don't you 'man up' and relocate their mealy asses out of Michigan?

That's a great question.

I've tried over the last 20 years.

Some people just can't handle change.

My mom has lived in Michigan for 60 years (she's 80). She is not going to move anywhere. My 80 year old mom is set. And she's worried. But she's not going anywhere.

What new bright graduates are going to stay in Michigan and change the equation???

No one...

This is the difference between you, war, whiney old, loonymom and I.

You all think that people who are better than you work for government and make a positive impact on society.

I understand that people who are better than you don't work for government. They create new products, invent new business models, and move society forward.

LOL. I've had enough of that line of work to last the rest of my life.

Tomorrow I'm ordering tile for the kitchen. I can't believe how crappy buying tile has become since I last bought the stuff fifteen years ago. No one carries the full complement of pieces needed to get the job done anymore and then they refuse to give quotes or take CC orders over the phone. So I have to make extra trips for nothing.

Also a word to the wise DO NOT EVER subscribe to AT&T U-verse. They refuse to stop billing my deceased relative even though we have notified them three times of the death and have returned all the equipment.
