Sobriety can be achieved,but there is no cure for addiction. You just become an addict that is no longer drinking,doing drugs,smoking,overeating,etc,etc,etc.,and you will be that person for all of your life. You never beat it. When I feel pain either mental or physical, most of the time I can will it away. My dentist says I'm a stoic although I will accept novocaine.
