Just picked it up today! 1970 Chevy K10, half ton 4X4, 350 small block, factory air, factory tach, factory tilt wheel & cab light. Needs some work but in damned good shape for a 42 year old truck.

I'm not that familiar with these old Chevy's, and I would have sworn that it was a 1/2 ton. Someone has either put the '10' emblems on or swapped the dog house and didn't take them off. Oh well, I'm still happy with it.

Imagine my surprise when I decoded the VIN tonight, to find that this is a 3/4 ton truck. It's a K20, not a K10. If it has 6 lug wheels,it's a half-ton. If it has 8 lug wheels,it's a 3/4 or 1 ton. I'd crawl around under it if I were you and look for evidence of frame damage and repair. Chances are it has been hit if the VIN says half-ton (look for the tag in the drivers door jam or on the inside lid of the glove box)for the Gross Vehicle Weight.

If it has 6 lug wheels,it's a half-ton. If it has 8 lug wheels,it's a 3/4 or 1 ton. OK, now I'm really confused. This truck has 6 lug wheels and the emblems say 10. But according to this site 67-72chevytrucks.com/Chevyear.html this is a 3/4 ton truck. The VIN starts out KE240J. The title VIN matches the vehicle VIN on both the door plate and the sticker in the glovebox. K= 4x4 E = V-8 Gas 2 = 3/4 Ton 4 = Pickup with Cab and Bed 0 = 1970 J = Janesville Assembly Plant I guess this could be a body swap, with a 1/2 ton drivetrain and a 3/4 ton body?
