During the course of the GOP primaries, the GOP establishment (Kristol, Hannity, Limbaugh, Santorum, etc) have unmercifully savaged Ron Paul and laughed at his supporters as some kind of "cultist" nuts. They have made a huge mistake.
Recent surveys have shown that "independents" (non-party affiliated voters) comprise 40% of the electorate. 79% of those people are angry with Obama and 77% of those people are also angry at George Bush and his big spending GOP Congress.
I am one of those people who think that both parties are a problem.
At this point Mitt Romney looks almost destined to be the GOP Presidential nominee.
Here's a fact: Most of the blowhards on the so-called "right" will line up behind Romney once he gets the GOP nomination, simply because he is the Republican nominee.
However, those of us who have felt unwelcomed in the GOP might have other options.
Ron Paul as not ruled out an independent run for the White House. Gary Johnson (the very successful libertarian governor of New Mexico) is running for the Libertarian Party nomination for President.
This is a huge problem for the GOP. The blowhards like Hannity aren't smart enough to get it.
The owner of Liberysflame.com came up with a very interesting idea.
Mitt Romney could solve most of his potential problems by naming RAND Paul as his running mate.
Rand Paul has tremendous credibility with the conservative Tea Party.
Rand Paul on the ticket would prevent Ron Paul from running as an independent.
It would also help demonstrate to libertarians, tea partiers, and independents that they are actually welcome in the party.
It's a great idea. If Romney locks up the nomination after South Carolina, he really needs to think about how to bring the party together to defeat Obama. This is the way to do it.
