WORLD WAR III Title: Shock: 100 Million Americans In Poverty or Right on the Edge We can play these “recovery” games in the media all we want, but the truth is starkly different from what our benevolent leadership would have us believe. If the abhorrent unemployment numbers, the nearly 50 million on government food assistance, dwindling savings accounts, collapsing real estate values, and negative economic growth (when adjusted for inflation) are not enough to convince you that we are in a long-term depressionary cycle, then maybe these latest statistics of “near poor” Americans will:
Down but not quite out, these Americans form a diverse group sometimes called “near poor” and sometimes simply overlooked — and a new count suggests they are far more numerous than previously understood. One in three Americans are either below, or right at, the poverty line. The scary thing is: We’re just getting started. Things are not going to get better any time soon. This is a sustained downward depressionary environment and all of the key indicators for economic well-being suggest it’s only going to get worse. One hundred million people are barely able to keep themselves fed, sheltered and clothed. Tens of millions more will join the ranks of the near poor over coming months and years. As more people become part of the near poor, more debt will need to be issued. Coupled with rising prices in essential goods like food and energy, which are outpacing emergency assistance payments, there is simply no way to support everyone who needs help. Government safety nets can only handle a finite amount of stress and weight before they experience complete failure. As the nets unravel and fail we’ll be looking at catastrophic consequences for our social and economic systems as we know them today. The worst case hypothetical scenarios of debt driven currency collapse, food riots, and the degradation of law and order are very much becoming reality. Given how we know things work, can there be any doubt that the repression is orchestrated at the highest levels of government? Why would the elites settle for anything less? The 1% phone the guys at the top (of course!!!). The Department of Homeland Security was set up with one purpose, and one purpose only, to foster Islamophobia in the United States so that Jews could kill people and steal their land in the Middle East. However, once you set up an institution, and give it billions of dollars to do absolutely nothing useful, it needs to find a reason to justify its existence, and beating up 'hippies' fits the bill. Obama-protecting notwithstanding, this is going to become more obvious as time goes on.
#2. To: Capitalist Eric (#0) (Edited) 100 Million Americans In Poverty or Right on the Edge Horseshit. "Poverty" in America means having at least one color television, video game box, washer/dryer, car, cellphone, etc. This is NOT "poverty". I know one family that is truly in poverty. The wife is a friend of my wife's. Her husband came down with a debilitating disease 4 years ago. He's 10 years younger than I am, but looks at least 10 years older -- frail, hunched over... Horrible. The doctor told him that he can't work any longer. The wife is working 3 part-time minimum wage jobs. They have two young kids. Their savings are now exhausted. I keep telling them to get help from the local food bank and go get food stamps. These are the kind of people that the welfare programs were designed for. They REFUSE to get help. They are too proud to do it. We just did a Thanksgiving collection form them. They were embarrassed. There is real poverty in America, but it doesn't extend to 100 million people playing their XBox games on their big screen televisions.

#4. To: jwpegler (#2) Ok, fine, you don't believe it. But please, don't give me an anecdotal sob-story, as a counterpoint. Provide data which either confirms or disputes the story. I'm not going to pretend I have data for either direction... but I see anecdotal evidence damn-near every day, that things are getting worse. And yes, some of the people I know are in far worse shape than yours, so let's not play "who's *bigger*," ok? DUMMY DwarF: ...I'm eating a meatball... "Whenver the dwarf sees something negative about a Democrat, he tries to change the topic of the thread to something else. Usually a personal attack, followed by mutterings about correct 'grammar' 'spelling' whatever. Anything he can think of to avoid a discussion about a Democrat screwing up or looking bad. It's a decade long pattern." --Badeye observation-- #5. To: Thunderbird (#3) Bye, bozo. DUMMY DwarF: ...I'm eating a meatball... It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves money from the public treasure #7. To: jwpegler (#6) I'm surprised someone who purports to be a capitalist isn't more familiar with the work of the Heritage Foundation.

The two big reasons we are fighting these stupid wars all over the world. Government by 'think tank'. "ROTFLMAO... Perfect! To: jwpegler (#6) For the most part, the list includes cheap crap that you can buy for next to nothing, so what you posted is basically irrelevant. As well, it's from 2009, before the crunch really started to hit the middle and lower classes, so you're trying to hit a moving target with a one-chart- defines-all model. I understand why you used it- it's superficial, easy to understand. Perfect for the two morons that also didn't get it, when they responded to your post.
The fact is, you completely missed the point of the article. What we're seeing, is simply the tip of the iceberg. Oh, we've got enough data to give us a trend, but the number of people willing to face the reality of what's coming is abysmally small. The problem is that everybody has "stuff." But they're not going to have money to buy fuel for the car, heating-oil (or gas) for the house, electricity, and most of all, food. I'm disappointed in your lack of vision. Make people more dependent on the government. Reward his cronies who raised campaign funds for him. Increase ... idiocy --- among his constituents.
