I don't think it is, nor is it illegal to falsely claim military honors one isn't entitled to, It is a federal felony and has been since Colonial Days to claim to be a serving officer in the United States military unless you really are. It is also a federal felony to claim to be a Medal of Honor winner if you're not. There are people in federal prisons right now for committing these crimes.
