Humor Title: Jon Stewart to GOP base: Your candidates aren’t the problem — it’s you Comedy Central’s Jon Stewart offered a little advice to a Republican base that first preferred Rep. Michele Bachmann and then Texas Gov. Rick Perry and now wants New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie to be the party’s presidential nominee. “You want to add another candidate?” Stewart asked the GOP base. “It’s like the Republican primary is a season of American Idol in reverse, where every week you just add some new idiot… Have you ever considered the possibility that your candidates aren’t the problem — it’s you?” “It’s like the Republican base is at war with its own talking points,” he explained. “I want someone who is going to cut taxes and balance the budget, someone who’s a skilled orator and doesn’t talk all fancy, a child of poor immigrants who will build a fence to keep them out of this country, someone who’s strong enough for a man but pH balanced for a woman, someone who will roll up their sleeves but not show their arms.” Stewart added: “It’s like your ideal candidate is a rare super-heavy element that can only exist in a particular particle accelerator and, even then, for only a fraction of a second before you all remember how much you all hate science. This is well put. The ReThugs have morphed into this unworkable entity that really resembles a movement for a fascist planet then a political party. As long as they are going to be this exclusive a political rubber padded room, it is going to have to continue to cheat, bully and steal if they want to be anything but an extremely small minority in this country. ![]() #5. To: lucysmom (#0) Stewart is hilarious... America...My Kind Of Place... "I truly am not that concerned about [bin Laden]..." "THE MILITIA IS COMING!!! THE MILITIA IS COMING!!!" I lurk to see if someone other than Myst or Pookie posts anything... #6. To: war, lucysmom (#5) Stewart is hilarious... It's funny 'cause it's true. This is a self inflicted melt down. My thesis is that since the late 60s but for sure in the 70s the talk show radio came along where you had the loudmouth know it all spouting stuff mostly reactionary and getting crank callers and listeners - mostly pissed off white dudes who hated the way the world was changing. The culture this created was the one where you have the know-nothing host/leader blocking/insulting any who would call in and disagree with the host on some point. This has been going on over 30 years on the right wing. This culture was first isolated, you had moderate Republicans and all types of Republicans really. But Reagan came in and they were pushed out. Then Clinton came along and reclaimed many of the so called Reagan Democrats (which is why Clinton was hated and feared so much by the GOPers, I think). And because Clinton stole the wider base from the GOP all the GOPers had left were the previously marginalized kook society that had developed around talk radio which migrated onto the internet. When Bush came along, he pretty much disgusted away most of the moderate and reasonable voters that were Republicans, leaving again the kook base as foot soldiers for the GOP. But now they have very few reasonable Republicans left. All the GOP have left are the pitchfork wielding crazies who are immune to facts and anything that challenges their talk show radio dogmas (imagine a world view shaped by unschooled men like Hannity and Limbough). The GOPers now remind me of flagellants from the Middle Ages that instead of examining the real cause of the Black Death went around the countryside scourging themselves bloody and igniting pogroms.
