(Reuters) - Stock index futures pointed to a sharply weaker open for equities on Wall Street on Friday, a day after the Nasdaq ended more than 5 percent lower and the S&P 500 slipped 4.5 percent on rising recession fears. Futures for the S&P 500, for the Dow Jones and for the Nasdaq 100 were down by between 1.7 and 2.0 percent.
Economic Cycle Research Institute (ECRI) releases at 10:30 a.m. EDT its weekly index of economic activity for August 12. In the prior week the index read 127.9.
