Obama Wars Title: NATO Plans Campaign In Syria, Tightens Noose Around Iran NATO is planning a military campaign against Syria to help overthrow the regime of President Bashar al-Assad with a long-reaching goal of preparing a beachhead for an attack on Iran, Russia's envoy to NATO Dmitry Rogozin said. The UN Security Council condemned on Wednesday ongoing violence in Syria and urged the country's authorities to stop using force against peaceful protesters, while saying the current situation in the country has not yet called for NATO interference. "[This statement] means that the planning [of the military campaign] is well underway. It could be a logical conclusion of those military and propaganda operations, which have been carried out by certain Western countries against North Africa," Rogozin said in an interview with the Izvestia newspaper published on Friday. The Russian diplomat pointed out at the fact that the alliance is aiming to interfere only with the regimes "whose views do not coincide with those of the West."
Rogozin agreed with the opinion expressed by some experts that Syria and later Yemen could be NATO's last steps on the way to launch an attack on Iran. "The noose around Iran is tightening. Military planning against Iran is underway. And we are certainly concerned about an escalation of a large-scale war in this huge region," Rogozin said. Having learned the Libyan lesson, Russia "will continue to oppose a forcible resolution of the situation in Syria," he said, adding that the consequences of a large-scale conflict in North Africa would be devastating for the whole world. Turkey's Supreme Military Council has appointed four new commanders after the surprise resignation of the military leadership last week. Thursday's announcement came nearly a week after the chief of the general staff along with commanders of Turkey's army, navy and air force resigned over a row with the government about promotions for generals and admirals held in an alleged anti-government plot. #6. To: Brian S (#0) NATO is planning a military campaign against Syria to... to distract their citizens from the ongoing economic crisis created by power hungry politicians. This small group of terrorists [Tea Party members] have made it impossible to spend any money. -- Mike Doyle (D-PA) #7. To: Brian S, All (#4)
NATO can't do the Afghans. Been waiting for this.
And I don't think the Taliban have exaggerated here. 31 SpecOps is not a small deal... "Mujahid says the Taliban fired on NATO and downed the helicopter, killing all the crew. He says eight insurgents also died. The Taliban often exaggerates casualty numbers in their statements to the media. Aircraft crashes are relatively frequent in Afghanistan, where insecurity and difficult terrain make air travel essential for coalition forces transporting troops and equipment. There have been at least 17 coalition and Afghan aircraft crashes in Afghanistan this year. Most of the crashes are attributed to pilot errors, weather conditions or mechanical failures. However, the coalition has confirmed that at least one CH-47F Chinook helicopter was hit by a rocket propelled grenade on July 25. Two coalition crew members were injured in that attack. http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/world/2011-08/06/content_13063581.htm
