Computers-Hacking Title: Feds Indict Hacktivist For “Stealing” Public Domain Data ![]() The government is going out of its way to create show trials in order to make the case that hackers are out of control and threaten our national security. The latest propaganda effort coincides with so-called cyber security legislation floating around the district of criminals. Coinciding with the ludicrous assertion by the government that hackers will take down the power grid and pitch the country into the Stone Age, the DOJ and FBI have arrested more than a dozen people in the PayPal Ddos case. Now they are going after a hacker who “stole” non-profit public domain documents. They want to throw him in prison for 35 years. A number of companies claim they are victims of hackers, including the death merchant Lockheed Martin. The corporate media has highlighted a number of hacking cases in the most lurid and exaggerated fashion. All of this coincides with an effort by the Pentagon to integrate the private sector into a massive surveillance network in the name of protecting the country from elusive hackers in China and Russia. Meanwhile, the Pentagon has teamed up with Israeli intelligence to take down Iran's nuclear energy computer network with a sophisticated virus called Stuxnet. It's okay when we do it. It should be noted that the Pentagon now says it will put a missile down the smokestack of anybody who messes with its networks and those of its corporate partners. Aaron Swartz is being set-up in an ongoing effort to demonize hacktivists – hackers with political beliefs – and send the message that political activism over the internet might land you in prison. Here's more on the case from DigitalMediaWire:
Poster Comment: This guy has done a lot more for the Internet than algore. .gov is cracking down on free speech. They're getting too much criticism of the police state. hObama's internet police are working hard to make sure you only receive official propaganda bulletins. If you see something (anything), SAY SOMETHING. Rat out anyone you don't like. hObama will send em to the gulag. 1-800-FEMA-CAMP (1 image) Subscribe to *Yukon neo-Progressive Vermin* Post Comment Private Reply Ignore Thread Top • Page Up • Full Thread • Page Down • Bottom/Latest Coinciding with the ludicrous assertion by the government that hackers will take down the power grid and pitch the country into the Stone Age, the DOJ and FBI have arrested more than a dozen people in the PayPal Ddos case. That particular case is a real mind blower. How fucking stupid were these folks to leave easily accessible "fingerprints" to begin with? They used a slightly modified version of LOIC (normally just used as an administrators program within a LAN to "ping" clients and servers) and didn't bother to cover up their own IP addresses. They deserve what is coming to them for just being plain S-T-U-P-I-D.
#2. To: buckeroo, *Jack-Booted Thugs* (#1) How fucking stupid were these folks to leave easily accessible "fingerprints" They wanted to get caught for these non-crime "crimes" so they could push liberty. Gutsy move IMO.
Obama's watch stopped on 24 May 2008, but he's been too busy smoking crack to notice. #3. To: buckeroo, Gatlin, harrowup, *Yukon neo-Progressive Vermin* (#1) (Edited) #5. #5. To: hondo68, buckeroo, Gatlin (#3) The usual suspects are cheering censorship onward. Punishing theft is not censorship... Unless you're a thief, I guess. Yukon dubbed you correctly, hondope and bucky booby.
#6. To: harrowup (#5) (Edited) Punishing theft is not censorship... More unsubstantiated allegations, aka bull shiite. BTW, the alleged "victim" JSTOR says there was nothing stolen.
Obama's watch stopped on 24 May 2008, but he's been too busy smoking crack to notice. #7. To: harrowup, hondo68, Gatlin (#5) (Edited) Admiral Harrowup, please PROVE the allegation of theft concerning the plaintiff "yukon's" complaint of any theft, misconduct or any other wrongdoing by anyone. And, support the evidence backed by fact through genuine first-hand witness testimony and substantial technical supporting details. Otherwise "yukon" shall be convicted for failure to confess his own sins FOREVER. Court adjourned until evidence is introduced. Bailiff, whack "yukon's" peepee; he enjoys that sort of stuff.
#8. To: buckeroo, harrowup, hondo68 (#7) ... Otherwise "yukon" shall be convicted for failure to confess his own sins FOREVER. When informing anyone of a guideline regarding behavior, it is well-advised to consider whether you yourself have been following the rule ... the irony is simply staggering.
#9. To: Gatlin (#8) Bailiff, whack "yukon's" peepee; he enjoys that sort of stuff. ha HA! How was rehab? I hear you have to return for additional treatment. Good luck with that.
#10. To: Fred Mertz (#9) It is acknowledged that a personal attack is a rhetorical strategy of attacking one’s opponent personally rather than attacking their views, argument, or stance on an issue. It’s well accepted that a man who stands on principle is bound to face personal attacks. Your personal attacks on me are of no consequence.
#11. To: Gatlin (#10) You are a joke, tater; I'll do my best not to reply to you again.

Yes, I do have a great sense of humor. It will be fine that you choose not to reply to me again because all you can do (and have ever done, for that matter) is to constantly take cheap shots at someone or something they value … with no intention of having a honest dialogue. You could offer up a particularly fine gift if you were to allow others to speak their concerns openly and freely without continually sniping and intentionally provoking them. I wish you well ...
#14. To: hondo68 (#12) (Edited) ... consider whether you yourself have been ...
Yes, there is wisdom in that statement, and it was well worth you repeating it ... with a proper application. If you haven’t consciously noticed, the blitz of audacious and disingenuous negative personal attacks against yukon has resulted in a counter productive action … as evidenced and supported by the fact that yukon is posting most aggressively than he ever has. The personal attacks against yukon have served as myriad incredible sources to increase his already healthy strong mental stamina … resulting in unintended consequences to the evil or stupid for advocating their particular action. As everyone can readily see, yukon now possesses strengthened endurance, increased performance and excessive energy.
#15. To: hondo68 (#6) BTW, the alleged "victim" JSTOR says there was nothing stolen. Good point. I wonder why.
#16. To: Gatlin (#10) Are you outa the closet now that DADT has been recinded Gaylin?
#17. To: Thunderbird (#16) Try as hard as I possibly can with my engaging mind and using a multi- disciplinary approach in an effort to understand your “weird mind” … I simply fail to see where you ever present a valid point about anything.
#18. To: harrowup (#15) I wonder why. I'm guessing that the data was under a Creative Commons license, and Swartz didn't like the fact that the public had to pay to access it. IMO he's forcing a court case, and maybe trying to fast track it to the fed circuit court, and then on to SCOTUS. Most of the people at MIT and JSTOR probably resent having to pay for something that's supposed to be free. I believe that under CC license you can use but not modify without permission, but GNU/DFSG (Debian Free Software Guidelines) you're free to hack away. Debian didn't like the CC license for Mozilla Firefox, so they took the GNU code and made the Ice Weasel web browser. Horrid name, but they're "free" fanatics, flat out communists really.
Obama's watch stopped on 24 May 2008, but he's been too busy smoking crack to notice. #19. To: hondo68 (#18) "Swartz most recently founded the civil liberties activist group Demand Progress, having previously been involved with launching Creative Commons" Thanks; I could have read about this for a day and not had that clear a description. Poor Swartz, just might not get the result he wants. Jury selection will be simple in this case. He looks like a smartass.
#20. To: Gatlin (#10) It’s well accepted that a man who stands on principle is bound to face personal attacks. Self-important morons on the internet are also bound to face personal attacks. Asswipe. ------------------------------------- #21. To: Biff Tannen (#20) Self-important morons on the internet are also bound to face personal attacks. Since you are a renounedly qualified self-important moron, I will accept your expert testimony. Addlepated one ... how long have you had this problem?
