Opinions/Editorials Title: The Failure of Republican Ideology: Part 1 "Blame it on Bush" is the sarcastic phrase which John McCain could be heard sneering to his colleagues shortly after his defeat in 2008, as if knowingly exasperated that the democrats could do no better than to excuse their poor economic numbers by blaming the last president. This kind of spin is presumably intended to silence the democrats' defense that they inherited a disaster for which no quick fix is possible. If the American public does have this short a memory, then perhaps the republican reputation is safe. But I have to wonder, is it really enough to the republicans themselves just to convince the electorate? Sure, maybe for a cynical few but this is a party of such thoughtful people as Barry Goldwater, William F. Buckley and many others, folks who spend time (presumably over cigars) considering the philosophy behind their policies. Republican ideology differs from democratic ideology for a reason. They want a different outcome than the democrats, one that they honestly believe is better for the country. It matters to any member of any party whether the implementation of their policies actually works. And yet the republicans, after having been delivered unchecked power in all three branches of American government in 2004, witnessed soon after a global economic collapse tied in no small part to policies they implemented a few short years before. No amount of distraction, voter suppression or redistricting can quell the gnawing doubt that has to come with that. Post Comment Private Reply Ignore Thread Top • Page Up • Full Thread • Page Down • Bottom/Latest The GOP was declaring the Obama presidency a disaster before the stim was passed. Hell, after one press conference, Boofer was cackling that Robert Gibbs wouldn't last 6 months [he lasted ~2 years]. We had 6 years of total fiscal and monetary mismanagement, one year of strabimus to the coming tsunami, one year of a recticent POTUS who basically refused to do anything meaningful. Then comes Obama who, oddly, the GOP seems to have had no problem blaming since about Day 1. While, at the same time, telling everyone who will listen to stop blaming Boosh. We are here because of GOP policies...there is no way to argue out of that fact. And now that it's time to fix the problem, the GOP is too busy protecting their sacred cows. EVERYONE needs to pony up their geometric share of the bill. The US's house is on fire. It's time for the GOP to stop arguing over what the cost of the hose that they bought on credit 10 years ago is costing us to pay for today... America...My Kind Of Place... Because of tornado damage last week Thursday racing was canceled. They are making up 8 of the 9 canceled races by adding two a day over the next four days - 12 races today. I normally stay for 6 or so races. This time I'm betting the #12 horse in the 12th race - Queen Martine - I won't stay for the race but the betting ticket is good for one year if she hits the board.
#13. To: go65, war, Bartcoprules, Fred Mertz (#0) The Republican fiscal ideology failed. When communism failed in China and Russia there were 2 possible responses - blame the fact that it failed on not following Marxism orthodoxy and double down on failure or admit the ideology does not work and change. The Russians double downed on failure and the Chinese changed. We see the end result. The GOP decided to double down on their ideology. Low taxes shrank revenue rather than grew it (economy also shrank) contrary to what their ideology said would happen = GOP proposes even lower taxes. Deregulation led to wild gambling on Wall Street that is near ruinous for the economy? Declare you support more deregulation. GOP doubles down on failure. Probably because they drove other voices out of the party and there is no fall back position. "Keep Your Goddamn Government Hands Off My Medicare!" - Various Tea Party signs. #14. To: Godwinson (#13) Deregulation led to wild gambling on Wall Street that is near ruinous for the economy? Declare you support more deregulation. The question is, will the peeps fall for that line again? Von Mises associates any Government involvement in markets as "Socialism" , to mislead people into thinking Government is the enemy , when infact empire is the enemy and empire is Privatized. #17. To: go65 (#0) KOS? The grinder at the end of Obama's monkey leash?
#18. To: war (#1) The GOP was declaring the Obama presidency a disaster before the stim was passed. Hell, after one press conference, Boofer was cackling that Robert Gibbs wouldn't last 6 months [he lasted ~2 years]. if he predicts something, you can pretty much bet the opposite will occur. My biggest beef with Obama is that he tried to hard to work with the GOP. If he did what was right instead of trying to appeal to folks who wanted to destroy him, we would have had a far better stimulus with more infrastructure rather than tax cuts, the Bush tax cuts on income above $250k would be gone and we would have had a public option. The deficit would be far lower, and we'd have much better healthcare reform. He blew a once in a lifetime chance. Still he's a million times better than any of the clowns currently seeking the GOP nomination. "Thats because your basically and idiot." #19. To: go65 (#18) He blew a once in a lifetime chance.
