First-time applications for unemployment benefits rose unexpectedly last week as the job market continues its struggle.
The number of people seeking initial benefits increased by 10,000 to a seasonally adjusted 424,000, the Labor Department said Thursday.
Although tornadoes and flooding have hit hard in some states, weather didn't factor into the increase, according to a Labor spokesman.

The people know something is way wrong with the economy, and they know this administration's failure on the topic can't be hidden, nor can it be blamed on Bush. Owe-bama and company beat that horse to death.
This should be prime hiring season. That its not is devastating to the small hope of Owe-bama's reelection...but more importantly it foreshadow's a frightening 3rd and 4th quarter of the current year.
When the damn bursts on the held up foreclosures due to the robo signing scandal - firgure within the next 90 days - the media won't be able to continue the 'economic recovery' myth they've been selling for the past two years.
Which means they'll jump from the SS Owe-bama, just as Dem senators did this week on his 'plan' which didn't receive a single vote.

A bit. The thing is all the Democrats have managed to do is put the absolute worst of the economic implosion off...til its smack dab in the middle of the election cycle.
Beginning later this summer, it will get worse with each passing month. That pattern won't end before the November 2012 election.
Thats why Owe-bama will be a one term failure.He spent the first 18 months paying off those that elected him, meaning unions and other traditional leftwing support entities. Then he indulged in his own personal vendetta's both domestic and internationally.
Now its too late to do anything to change the dynamic. And thats his ass at the end of the day, politically.
