I called it socialism because the so called conservatives on this forum are - let's face it - idiots. And to them the German "Social Market" is "Socialism". Germany has a mixed-market economy. And it works. And when presented with the open borders trade - they outsourced the cheap manufacturing stuff and invested in high end manufacturing. A cheap electric drill made in China is OK for household work and the Germans can't compete with that so they manufacture electric drills for professional contractors that are too expensive for the average consumer but sought after by professionals for their quality and durability. etc. Because Germany is infused with the Christian-Democrat ideology of social responsibility, this tempers the capitalist pig mindset that the first thing a person should look out for is himself rather than society and thus preventing CEOs from gutting their companies/firing employees/outsourcing for quick stock gains so they can retire to the Hamptons.
