Health/Medical Title: Free clinic draws thousands to Oakland Coliseum This was the scene every morning at the Oakland Coliseum from Saturday to Tuesday - a four-day mass free clinic put on by Remote Area Medical, a nonprofit that provides free medical care to people in isolated areas around the world and in the States. The organization usually provides care in extremely impoverished parts of the world, but it was invited to the Bay Area by the state's association of oral surgeons. With the help of thousands of medical and administrative volunteers, more than 3,000 patients are being served this week. But by Tuesday, many of the medical volunteers have gone back to their regular jobs, and fewer volunteers means fewer patients can get through the doors.

It has been my observation over the years on very few boards that the least rational are those that take themselves too seriously, lack a sense of humor and resent any interference in their agenda. The fact is that there are mostly well intentioned posters in the majority and a few agitators and angry souls who insist on carrying a grudge wherever they go. I will continue to enjoy a laugh or two a day and if that doesn't work, I'll start goofing in the good old pirate way knowing that those who know, know; and those that don't know, will never know. The misfits will accuse us of gloating. Not true. I take no pleasure in hurting people of good will. I do feel sorry for those that were sidewiped by their associates. But, the bottom line remains. Bucky and his cohorts have been demolished and when they return to public gaze their pathetic attempts will be thwarted. It may take longer than we like to start whacking but whack we will. JR used to say he liked LP because it ridded FR from constant on-site criticism from within. That was true early on. LP is it's own now and all of the other forums that have evolved out of anger at one moderator or another have an opportunity to grow. The fact that there is more internal squabbling and grudge matches than comraderie limits fair discussion. In that regard, having visited all sites and participated in some, TBF, F4UM and and TPF don't stand a chance of growing. LF does because the number of good decent posters far outnumber the bad. That the bad ones came from here or wherever else from which they were no longer welcome, is not an indictment of the forum hosts but rather an affirmation that fair minded people are better for your health than any amount of vile bile, jealousy and self-righteous petty grudge matches. Phew.
