On July 25, 1993, Azanian Peoples' Liberation Army cadres attacked St. James Church in Cape Town, South Africa; I returned fire to protect innocent lives.

I have been criticized as having used the St. James attack to justify my personal theology – that Christians must defend themselves.

I argue that this is most definitely not my "personal theology" but is historically the theology of mainline Christianity. In fact, it is those who do not support the individuals' right and responsibility to self-defense who are neglecting the theology of the Bible.

It is interesting to note that countries whose leaders have been influenced by biblical or Christian teachings and who have applied principles gleaned from the Bible into their socio- political structure have seen the right of protection, by means of weapons, as an unalienable right. It is a God-ordained right over which man has no say.

A group of English Protestants of the 16th and 17th centuries, known as the Puritans, had a decisive role in influencing society. They believed that the Bible was applicable to all areas of life. In 1686, James II of England ordered the militia to search for and seize muskets and other guns. This proclamation was selectively used against the Protestants – he was Catholic.

England's Parliament enacted the English Bill of Rights (1689). One of the main provisions of the bill was a guarantee of the right of citizens (including Protestants) to own arms for their personal defense, and not just for the common defense of the nation.

In 1630 many Puritans crossed the Atlantic to the New World. People seeking freedom from oppressive governments formed these settlements. They wanted to establish an ideal state based on biblical principles. Puritan morality and theology had a great impact on the culture of future generations.

Ultimately the American War for Independence resulted in the 1789 U.S. Constitution being adopted. This was followed in 1791 by its Bill of Rights. The Second Amendment in the Bill of Rights declares:

"A well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to bear arms shall not be infringed."

When God blessed the children of Israel for their faithfulness, these blessings included a strong national defense and peace. An example of this is during the reign of Jehoshaphat (2 Chronicles 17). The Israelite army was a militia army; each soldier went to war with his own weapon. When Nehemiah rebuilt the walls and gates of Jerusalem, it is noted that even the servants of the Israelites were armed with their own swords.

The Old Testament of the Bible gives a concise historical record of the nation of Israel. It is interesting to note that under the reign of King Saul, the kingdom was lost to the Philistines. The Israelites were put into bondage by their victors. The Philistines would not allow them to have blacksmiths in Israel in case they made swords or spears. Visits to the Philistines had to be made to have their ploughshares, axes and sickles sharpened. This all happened as Israel turned away from God and wanted to be ruled by a man rather than God. (Read the account in 1 Samuel 13.)

When the Israelites were oppressed by the Philistines during the rule of the Judges, the Bible tells us that they chose new gods and when war broke out there were no spears or swords amongst 40,000 Israelites. The Bible links disarmament with the judgment of God.

In London in 1562 the whole clergy of the Church of England agreed upon the 39 Articles of Religion. Article 37 includes, "It is lawful for Christian men to carry weapons and serve in wars at the command of the civil ruler."

David used a sling, the apostles of Jesus Christ had swords and David Livingstone carried a firearm. Many of the Christian reformers of the 15th century were men who carried and used weapons.

Countries that have been influenced historically by mainline Christianity and its belief in the right to own and use arms include England, Switzerland and the U.S.

Red China, Nazi Germany and Rwanda come to mind as those who have chosen gun control as their agenda.

Where would you rather live?

Christians have historically taught that weapon ownership for the common man is an unalienable right.

Name me one martyr for Jesus that resisted the persecution of the Romans by force of arms?

Name me one Christian who advocated armed resistance against Pagan Rome.

Christians are forbidden to use religion to justify violence. In fact ancient Christian soldiers after Constantine's era would have to repent for 3 years and were denied the sacraments if they killed anyone in battle.

LOL!

THAT'S truly funny gooberloserton!

You, a person who has no religion or "god' except for the all powerful state, TRYING to lecture Christians about our theology!

FUNNY, ABSURD STUFF!

It's not really your fault. because WEAK Christians have allowed you heathens to define OUR theology for way too long.

After DECADES of dealing with you libTURD filth I understand that your only purpose is to advance your true master's agenda.

It is impossible to NAME individual Christians of the Roman period and you know it asshole, not because nobody did what you supposedly demand "proof" of, resist with force, but because they were WIPED OUT, and their names and lives were erased.

Want to tell me why just ROME counts you libTURD whore?

That's one of you libTURDS' favorite techniques isn't it whore, get em arguing about details, derail the discussion, change the subject, spin, LIE, disrupt.

LOL! You feeble libTURD whore.

Then, after I supply and entire list of quotes FROM scripture that support the right of Christians to use force to defend themselves and others, (post #1), you TRY to claim that they do not exist! LOL! You pitiful lying little libTURD whore.

LOL!

You are a pitiful and feeble little lying libTURD whore.

YOU TRYING to lecture anybody, but especially even bad Christians like me, about OUR scripture and theology is the height of ABSURDITY.

But that is where you libTURD messiah king obammy whores and tools and hypocrites LIVE isn't it?

LIES and ABSURDITY are you libTURD'S true native country.

LOL! The Romans themselves reported zero Christian armed resistance.

In fact an entire legion of Christians laid down their arms and willingly allowed themselves to be tortured to death rather than resist.

Maurice was an officer of the Theban Legion of Emperor Maximian Herculius' army, which was composed of Christians from Upper Egypt. He and his fellow legionnaires refused to sacrifice to the gods as ordered by the Emperor to insure victory over rebelling Bagaudae. When they refused to obey repeated orders to do so and withdrew from the army encamped at Octodurum (Martigny) near Lake Geneva to Agaunum (St. Maurice-en-Valais), Maximian had the entire Legion of over six thousand men put to death. To the end they were encouraged in their constancy by Maurice and two fellow officers, Exuperius and Candidus. Also executed was Victor (October 10th), who refused to accept any of the belongings of the dead soldiers. In a follow-up action, other Christians put to death were Ursus and another Victor at Solothurin (September 30th); Alexander at Bergamo; Octavius, Innocent, Adventor, and Solutar at Turin; and Gereon (October 10th) at Cologne. Their story was told by St. Eucherius, who became Bishop of Lyons about 434......

Priest in Mexico packs pistol and builds a following, roads (Padre Pistolas)

CHUCANDIRO, Mexico -- Alfredo Gallegos Lara is 6 feet 4, sings country music, and keeps a 9mm pistol tucked into his belt. No ordinary gunslinger, he may be Mexico's most unusual parish priest.

One recent afternoon, Gallegos, 52, pulled off his religious vestments behind the altar of the Catholic church in this town in central Mexico, revealing jeans, crocodile boots, and a shiny black pistol. Mexico has strict laws forbidding private citizens to carry guns, but Gallegos said he has always informed police about them and the police haven't complained. After all, his pistols are why the unorthodox priest, with a growing following in Mexico and the United States, is called "Padre Pistolas."

"Four of my friends have been killed, and three of my trucks have been stolen," he said, explaining that his ministry to drug addicts and the sick takes him through the back roads of central Mexico, where it is wise, he said, to be armed. The youngest of 10 children in a wealthy family with a long history of military service and fine marksmanship, Gallegos boasts that he can pick off a soft-drink can at 80 feet.

Ever since he entered the seminary at age 14, his handling of guns has been drawing popular attention as well as criticism from his church superiors.

"I have been fighting with the bishop. He is so angry with me. He doesn't like my gun," Gallegos said.

He said Archbishop Alberto Suarez Inda is also uncomfortable with his high-profile fund-raising and construction projects. Gallegos has built 40 miles of roads, as well as basketball courts, schools, churches, and bridges in and around Jaral del Refugio in the neighboring state of Guanajuato, where he was the parish priest for 24 years. He said he raised millions of dollars for the projects. He makes frequent fund-raising trips to Illinois, North Carolina, and California, and migrants there have encouraged him to create a Padre Pistolas website, key chains, compact discs, and posters.

Gallegos said he has gone hunting with law enforcement officers in the United States and sung to standing-room-only crowds in Chicago's popular Concordia Restaurant. Town President Ramiro Gonzalez of Cicero, Ill., just outside Chicago, has helped him arrange fund-raisers and traveled to his parish in Mexico to see his public works projects.

Gonzalez said migrants return to their Mexican hometowns from well-paved American cities and "see that the roads are the same way they were a billion years ago, and they say, 'How much can this cost? $10,000? Then let's get together and do it.' " But they need someone trustworthy to handle the money, he said, someone "with the magnitude of leadership of Padre Pistolas."

Still, Gallegos's guns and his super-sized persona have gotten him into hot water with the local bishop, who wants him to leave building roads and hospitals to the government and televised musical performances to entertainers. "He wants me to stick to baptizing children and saying Mass," Gallegos said.

"Is that possible?" he is asked.

"Oh, no!" he responded with a wink.

Suarez, the bishop, declined to be interviewed. "Oh, God," moaned the person answering the phone in his office in Morelia, when asked for a comment about Padre Pistolas. "Don't pay too much attention to him."

But it is hard not to. He has a powerful singing voice that draws applause wherever he starts singing -- at Mass, in restaurants, on the street corner. He is unabashedly comfortable with his attention-grabbing role.

In May, Suarez removed Gallegos from Jaral. Tearful followers sent him off with a parade.

When asked about him, Valentina Guzman started crying. "He built our roads and bridges. When I hurt my foot, he took care of me," she said. "And he is such a good singer."

Recently, Gallegos had started raising money for a hospital and museum in Jaral. "The hospital had not been approved by the government," said Jose Angel Parrales Espinoza, an official in that municipality. "We agree that there should be a regional hospital. But things should be done in a correct way." Still, he said, Padre Pistolas is "an original," loved by many people.

Gallegos was reassigned to this town of 3,000 in Michoacan State, 25 miles east of the capital city of Morelia, where most of the men have gone to the United States to work. An official, Francisco Garibay Arroyo, said his impoverished town wanted somebody who could raise money and make improvements, and didn't mind Gallegos's "custom of collecting guns."

Gallegos said he loves the Church but its leaders need to worry less about his guns and more about the church's bigger problems, such as pedophilia scandals in the United States.

Looks like a Browning hi-power, aka P35.
