Title: Pastor Accused of Denying Communion to Churchgoers Who Didn't Give Tax Refunds

Members of a small Baptist congregation in Texas say their pastor denied them communion after they refused to give him their tax refunds, MyFoxHouston.com reports.

Parishioners at the Houston Unity Baptist Church claim the pastor, John Goodman, asked members of his congregation to hand over their tax refunds to the church.

"He said for all those who are getting a tax refund, 'How many are you are going to give it to the church?'" said one church member, who spoke to the station on condition of anonymity.

Goodman has admitted to denying his congregation communion but said he did so because church members overall have failed to support the church financially -- like giving money toward its new parking lot. He said only four or five members of the church actually donate, and he called the rest of his congregations "devils," MyFoxHouston.com reported.

"I asked if there were any other members, which I know it is, that got income tax money. I ask if they would like to contribute it over here to the new parking lot," Goodman said in an interview with the station.

Kind of ironic since Martin Luther - founder of Protestantism left the Catholic Church over indulgences.

I know the Mormons demand a tithe to be certified as a someone qualified for this highest of their three levels of heaven.

So if a man wants his own celestial world he is god of where he and his afterlife wife make baby spirits for humans on Earth to pluck down to give a corporeal life too, he better pony up ten percent of his income.

This "pastor" has one small church in Texas. Individual kooks can always be found. I suspect this church is independent. The RCC made paying indulgences the church law in all RCC Churches. There is one giant difference in the story and your remark.

What do you think of Baptist Bishop Eddie Long, Don? Just curious. I'm sure you've heard of the Atlanta sex scandal involving him.

I looked on the internet for info on the man. He said he wasn't a perfect man. None of us are. If he is guilty of what was alleged, God will deal with him. There are also many people who call themself Pastor or whatever, who use their position to gain money or sex or power. We are living in bad times. There are many wolves in sheep clothing. It is best to not blindly accept any man, and realize that only God is perfect.

When a people, any people, can see only dollar signs in the sky rather than God a prosperity religion is understandable.

I am amused how that polygamists sect that is an offshoot from Mormons goes out of it's way to collect as much government benefits as possible and try to make it sound like a noble thing by calling it, "bleeding the beast."

When a people, any people, can see only dollar signs in the sky rather than God a prosperity religion is understandable.

When everyone can declare him/herself an expert on the bible and interpret it as they wish then you get all sorts of kooky religions. That was the biggest mistake in hindsight of Protestantism - they assumed they corrected Christianity's errors but they fragmented the faith further. To be honest I can't tell one Protestant confession from another.

To be further honest, I think in the USA religious church membership is more about joining. I view churches in America as being the country clubs for the poor and lower middle classes where you get day care, holiday parties and in some cases a gym and a movie. That's why Americans can claim the highest church attendance of the industrial world and why at the same time more Americans act unchristian and commit crimes, etc at unchristian levels than any industrialized nation.

If America is super Christian and Japan is super pagan and Japan has lower levels of crime than America that means either Americans are bad Christians or Christianity does not work in changing people. Western Europeans are nominally Christian but are for the most part agnostic or atheistic and their crime levels are also way below America's.

So I don't have much respect for America's Christians.

I don't think the beast has that much blood left, but it should be apparent to all that if the Central Government goes down, everyone will be affected.

The founder of mormonism didn't seem to believe in monogamy. He had a real harem.

Indeed he did; some of whom were a wee bit on the young side to be taken advantage of that way. They had to get rid of the polygamy, the practice of blood tithing, and a couple of other things to qualify to become a U.S. state.

And I know there was friction concerning that having been in a Special Forces national Guard unit in Utah I used to travel from Oregon too for drills as Camp Williams and Fort Douglas in SLC were originally there to be used by U.S. Army troops sent there to keep an eye on unhappy Mormons.

Blood Tithing is the practice of killing someone to prevent them from sinning to keep them pure enough to go to the highest of the three heavens they believe in.

For example, if a kid mounted his horse and tried to flee Zion (the Wasatch Front/Salt lake area) and his dad chased him down and killed him before he was too far away, they felt the dad did a blessed thing that saved his son's soul.

I go to an Independent Baptist Church. I haven't officially joined and probably won't. I'm not a steadfast believer in joining things.

There is a verse in the Holy Bible that states 1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.

1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. (2Pe)

However, it is good to remember that it is the Holy Spirit that reveals the things of God. It is also a good thing to read commentaries and other Bible aids to check our understanding. Martin Luther and the other Reformers came along at a time when they were needed. The RCC had become totally corrupt and even wrote the Holy Scriptures in Latin to make sure no one but RCC priests and other clergy could see for themself what the Scriptures said. As if it that wasn't bad enough, the RCC wrote their own additions to the Scripture that filled up entire libraries.

Protestants normally put the Holy Bible above other books, Sola Scriptura (The Bible Alone). Now there are "Christians" who want to write evolution into Genesis. I realize you aren't a staunch believer, but it is easy enough for anyone to see the "Christian Churchs" are being swiftly corrupted.

Well, that is totally weird. I was thinking before that the Mormon Religion had as much to do with Christianity as do the Muslims. The Muslims will do the same thing.

I go to an Independent Baptist Church.

I have no clue what that means - what that means if you joined an established Baptist Church vs an Independent one vs joining an Pentecostal one vs joining a Presbyterian one outside of probably how the preacher acts on stage and what hymn are sung.

I know with some churches like Mormons its easy to figure out how different they are but honestly, with the rest it is just a matter of joining one that fits your personality or lifestyle.

I know people who switch church based on what services it offers.

Heck, even Glenn Beck became a Mormon because his wife wanted to join a church before they got married. Which indicates to me that joining a church is more of a matter akin to finding a community center than faith. Faith is then the BS most Americans claim to have to be a member so they can get good chid day care.....

I am not saying this as a dig on you per say - just my observation.

This moron isn't going to need a parking lot because no one will use it.

Extortion will piss people off, especially xtians that are denied their symbolic cannibalism in the case of protestants, or literal cannibalism thru transubstantiation (a big word with a silly meaning) for the catlicks.
