Science-Technology Title: Researchers: 100 Percent Green Energy Possible By 2050 snip Researchers from Stanford University and the University of California-Davis published their analysis in the journal Energy Policy. Measuring costs vs benefits The main challenges, say the authors, will be summoning the global will to make the conversion. "There are no technological or economic barriers to converting the entire world to clean, renewable energy sources," said author Mark Jacobson, a Stanford professor, saying it is only a question of "whether we have the societal and political will." #2. To: Happy Quanzaa (#1) He's right, we have no technological or economic barriers to blocking our friends from Planet X-49 from coming down and presenting us with magical interstellar pixie dust power. In 2001 the newly elected Bush administration sought to nullify California's CAFE standards (so much for Republican support for state's rights) which were nothing more than on target for complying with Bush the elder's legislation. While Detroit was whining "its too hard, we can't" Japan was doing it. We all know what happened after that - Japan ate our lunch, again, and Detroit ended up on life support. Pixie dust to some, a challenge to be met for others. You have the courage to tell the masses what no politician told them: you are inferior and all the improvements in your conditions which you simply take for granted you owe to the efforts of men who are better than you. They're still working on the road apple, and flatulence emissions problems.

That doesn't make sense... because......the CAFE standards are "HIGHER" in California (you live there.. right) than in any other part of the country. So if Detroit was whining "Its too hard, we can't" then Detroit slit its own throat.. (or should I say the unions slit their own throat)...... not Bush.... A car plant in Fremont California that might have saved the U.S. car industry. In 1984, General Motors and Toyota opened NUMMI as a joint venture. Toyota showed GM the secrets of its production system: How it made cars of much higher quality and much lower cost than GM achieved. Frank Langfitt explains why GM didn't learn the lessons—until it was too late.

To: CZ82 (#14) (Edited) Some counties in California have no annual emissions testing requirement We're free to increase MPG, since we don't worry about harmless emissions like CO2. Plants love it, and we have more horsepower than most of California too. Business is booming at speed shops, where smog equipment is changed out for stuff that works. No smog inspection required in this California county, CARB region. In our own small way, we're saving the planet, from eco-nuts.

Emission systems have a lot to do with gas mileage, just ask any automotive engineer. We were talking about CAFE standards which are "mileage" standards..... Now emissions is another subject altogether..... If emissions has such a profound effect on mileage then "WHY" can you have high mileage vehicles that still release lots of emissions and it can pass an "Emissions Inspection"..... even in California...... I posted an article about this very subject the other night...... "I love the 45 caliber M1911, I respect the 9MM M9 Beretta but I only carry a CZ for my own personal protection". The only "global will" these hucksters are talking about is the global will of getting as many leftwing loonytoon regimes around the globe as they can to take as much of their suckered citizen sheeple's money as possible and give it to them in the form of grants for their pie-in-the-sky promise to fix their fabricated fiction of a Global Warming crisis. When 2050 rolls around these so-called scholar sleazeballs will be long gone enjoying spending the money they scammed out of pockets of taxpayers.

We have lots of booming speed shops in my CARB county too. We also have a major raceway with NASCAR and Pinks, and drag races every Wed night during good weather. To: lucysmom (#16) (Edited) As long as you continue to blame unions for management decisions and mistakes there is no way problems can be solved. Yes I blame "some" of the unions for "some" of the stupid decisions "their" management made. Like I said before paying some nimrod almost 6 figures to put screws in a dash isn't smart, you just priced yourself out of the game.... consequently, "American Brand" vehicle production dropped way down in this country....... There used to be "Auto" plants here in Ohio, where are they now???? not here (consequently population is way down)..... Detroits population used to be over 2 million now its less than 750,000.... why????? the auto plants are gone.... If the union management isn't stupid then WTF are they exactly??? It sure isn't smart!!!! So is it smart to give the Dumbassocrats all of their employees union dues and some of their pensions to help get them elected...... Sure doesn't look that way where are all of the "workers".... laid off.... retired with no pension..... or working for a non-union company...... Oh by the way you forget I work for a "private union" so yes I do have some perspective....... Quote courtesy of Lt Col John Dean Cooper, recognized as the Father of Modern Handgunning #24. To: lucysmom (#0) (Edited) wind and solar Not without a way to store the energy. The sun doesn't always shine and the wind doesn't always blow. They will never be anything more than niche technologies unless there is a way to turn solar and wind energy into energy that can be stored until it's needed. Yes, using solar and wind to split hydrogen from water, which can be stored and transported is a way to do it. Most of the major auto companies are investing in fuel cell technology. I've been saying for a few years that fuel cells, not plug-in electrics are probably the future. But there is a monumental task of creating a hydrogen infrastructure, including refueling stations. It will start happening in Hawaii and Germany shortly. So, we'll see. "Everything that can be invented has been invented."-- Charles Duell, Commissioner of US Patent Office, 1899 #25. To: lucysmom (#0) Now here is a true environmental visionary "Everything that can be invented has been invented."-- Charles Duell, Commissioner of US Patent Office, 1899 #26. To: Rek (#20) Please let me know how CAFE standards are being set without taking into account the emissions systems. What kind of emissions CO, CO2, NOx or particulate matter???? "I love the 45 caliber M1911, I respect the 9MM M9 Beretta but I only carry a CZ for my own personal protection". Quote courtesy of Lt Col John Dean Cooper, recognized as the Father of Modern Handgunning #27. To: CZ82 (#26) (Edited) What kind of emissions CO, CO2, NOx or particulate matter???? You tell me, since you're the one who posted they are two completely unrelated items. "http://first-draft-blog.typepad.com/.a/6a00d8341c5ced53ef0148c7a28c4b970c-320wi" #28. To: Rek (#27) What kind of emissions CO, CO2, NOx or particulate matter???? I just wondered what you meant cause different fuels have different emissions levels. Fuel economy is determined by a dynamometer test that measures carbon in the fuel. If you know how much carbon is contained in a gallon of whatever fuel it might be, then you can calculate its "mileage". But, because that fuel has a specific amount of carbon (no matter what) in it per gallon its going to have the "same amount of emissions" (no matter what)no matter how far you drive on a gallon of fuel.... So in effect saying a car has such and such emissions is actually kinda irrelevant. You can't control "emissions" until you find a way to reduce the carbon content in any fuel...... Now different fuels "emit" different levels of CO, CO2, NOx, and particulate matter. For instance diesel actually has less CO2 emissions than gasoline. But since it emits more of the other 3 it is much worse for the atmosphere than gasoline. What does this all mean???? Manmade Global Warming is a Hoax.... he he he he he......
