Keeping her arms pinned, Le says, the guard forced her from the Assembly Gallery. "I said 'I am not resisting you,'" she recalls.

Along with Le, David Wasserman, a Middle School teacher at Sennett Middle School in Madison, describes being roughly removed from the governor's speech, despite being peaceful and complying with the guards throughout the address.

"They kicked us out because we were not clapping," Wasserman says. " "I never once stood to cheer or jeer. I totally complied because I didn't want to get kicked out. The person next to me was fuming. When all the Republicans around us stood and cheered she stood and booed and they came over and got her. She said, 'I know, I know, I'm going,' and she left. But that drew attention to us."

The governor's budget is a major step in what has been a protracted battle over the future of the state and the governor's controversial plans to radically cut funding for education and other public services. It slashes funds for schools and local governments by $1 billion over the next two years, and forbids municipalities from raising property taxes to make up the shortfall, and ends opportunities from AP classes to programs that have helped low-income students go to college. Meanwhile, it further lowers corporate taxes.

You have no problem whatsoever when the roles are changed. Being on the wrong side of history doesn't equal first amendment rights are being denied your side.

Well, [war's] got to do something for attention, his multiple personalities aren't speaking to him any more, and his imaginary friends keep finding excuses not to come over.

Really? You can back that statement up with a quote?

How do you feel about the state disallowing people at the local level deciding how to tax themselves?

You have the courage to tell the masses what no politician told them: you are inferior and all the improvements in your conditions which you simply take for granted you owe to the efforts of men who are better than you. Ludwig von Mises in a letter to Ayn Rand

Gotta call your posse because you cannot rebut the observation yourself? If you can't, what makes you think your friends can, other than spamming the thread with non sequitur garbage? Or is that your whole point?

3. Offer corporations a choice: since they're legally considered "persons" now, then they have a simple choice:

A. Pay the individual "persons" tax rate on all income, and have all corporate-specific tax breaks stripped away, or

B. Renounce their Supreme Court-granted rights to "personhood" and pay 0% income tax on all non-financial-related income.

Providence Mayor Defends Firings As Teachers Protest
by Elisabeth Harrison

About 1,500 people jammed the street in front of City Hall in Providence, R.I., on Wednesday to protest last week's dismissal of the city's entire teaching force.

"I thought the only insanity was in Wisconsin, not in Rhode Island," Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers, told the crowd, which raised signs and banged drums.

Weingarten calls the terminations insane, but city officials say they had no choice: The city is facing an estimated deficit of more than $100 million for the next fiscal year, or roughly 20 percent of the city budget.

Providence's new mayor, Angel Taveras, says he is considering school closures and layoffs for many city workers, but teachers are feeling the pain first, because of a state law that requires districts to notify teachers by March 1 if their jobs are in jeopardy. He says he chose terminations instead of layoffs because it ensures that teachers the city can't afford will be completely removed from the city payroll.

"With a layoff, for various reasons, you can be responsible for paying teachers who are not teaching in a classroom," he said. "In addition to that, if they go into the substitute pool, you're paying them their full pay and benefits, and that's costing an enormous amount of money. I can't allow the taxpayers to be on the hook for paying teachers who are not teaching."

But union leaders point out that the dismissal of nearly 2,000 educators means the city can ignore seniority rights as it re-staffs classrooms.

He fired the whole teaching staff of the city. This anti-union war is escalating fast.

I wonder if the really good teachers will wait around to see whether or not they have jobs.
