Kleiner Perkins partner Mary Meeker published a gigantic 460 page research report this morning, analyzing the entire USA as if it were a company. "USA Inc," she calls it. Meeker's verdict: "By the standards of any public corporation, USA Inc.’s financials are discouraging." "Our review finds serious challenges in USA Inc.’s financials," she writes. "The ‘management team’ has created incentives to spend on healthcare, housing, and current consumption. At the margin, investing in productive capital, education, and technology – the very tools needed to compete in the global marketplace – has stagnated." "In effect, USA Inc. is maxing out its credit card. It has fallen into a pattern of spending more than it earns and is issuing debt at nearly every turn." Fortunately, Meeker does more than just analyze USA Inc's troubles; she also provides a thorough turnaround plan.

Since January 3, 2011, Republicans have controlled the power of the purse.
Surprise, surprise! She wants to raise taxes. Who'd a thunk it? Spread the wealth baby! (Or share the misery?) She goes on figuring how to screw more people, carbon tax... whatever, anything goes. This communist high tech brilliance comes at a heavy price for John & Joan Six-Pack. Let them eat cake! (or Federal Reserve Notes)
I recall a re-run of MASH I saw where this uber right winger named Colonel Flagg... 190 slides! And I thought I was bad... Great analysis. The bottom slide is the salient point on healthcare. Since Medicare and Medicaid were introduced, people aren't paying very much out of pocket. So, they don't have any incentive to use the system wisely.
