"An intern to Rep. Gabrielle Giffords who aided the congresswoman after she was shot in the head and the family of a 9-year-old girl who was killed will sit with first lady Michelle Obama for President Barack Obama's State of the Union address Tuesday night," the Associated Press writes.
Hernandez is the young man who performed some basic first aid on Giffords immediately after the 40-year-old congresswoman was shot on Jan. 8, at the start of a rampage that left six people dead and another 13 — including Giffords — wounded by gunfire. As we wrote last week, Hernandez doesn't think he's a hero. But many others do.
The little girl, Christina Taylor Green, had gone with a neighbor to meet Giffords.
The AP adds that:
"Giffords' office said that her Arizona doctors — trauma surgeons Peter Rhee and Randall Friese and neurosurgeon Michael Lemole — and nurse Tracy Culbert planned to attend the annual address."
The State of the Union address is set for 9 p.m. ET tomorrow. We're planning to live-blog during it.

You are not on the mark about this being a cynical move by President Obama.
For one thing, Mr. Hernandez is openly gay and no doubt people like the person you ping here will squeal in joy as they get another venue to express their latent homosexuality in their usual obsessive manner.
Obama was also most deeply impacted by the death of this nine year old girl and this is a nice gesture by him.

We don't have to turn to our history books for heroes. They're all around us. Meanwhile the Republicans milked the hell out of 9/11 and we got the Patriot Act,
When you say things like "They're milking that dead girl, for EVERY ounce of blood they can..." you are projecting what the evil Republican mind is thinking on to others.
Or maybe the reminder of the victims of right wing insanity, no universal health care (mental is included), allowing for weapons to be sold that kill multiple people a go, talking like kooks threatening to kill your political rivals, etc is too painful to face?
